Zany, wildly creative with surprising heart and emotional power- this is the perfect read when your weekend plans go to pieces and you are feeling sorry for yourself. This is also the perfect read when you wake up in the middle of the night and your brain goes through the highlight reel of the calamitous moments in your life spotlighting how you have been a terrible wife and mother. But probably the best time to read Good-Time Girl is when you are feeling on top of the world and you need something to reinforce your devil-may-care feelings.

If I tell you the plot of the book, I’m afraid you won’t be brave enough to read it, so I’ll share some of the book blurb with you, which I edited a bit to not give everything away.

“Leah hates thong underwear as much as she hates being middle-aged and fighting to stay relevant in her job. What strange freedom when she unexpectedly purchases a gun! It’s enough to make her consider an act of terrorism at a certain lingerie store. Though she may need the help of the handsome twenty-two-year-old across the street.
Her shrink wants to help her, her mother wants her to get married, and only her dogs love her.
But Leah and her gun have a different path to follow.”

Leah tells us her story in the first person, present. At times she is witty, sarcastic, self-deprecating and off-putting. But every so often, she reveals her more vulnerable and caring side. She senses she is at a crossroads in her life. On the one hand, she’s getting older, which impacts how the world from men to her mother see her, and how she fits in at her marketing/graphic design job. On the other hand, she’s still witty and vibrant and at her sexual peak. She’s old enough to feel comfortable with her opinions, but insecure enough to hide at home with her dogs.
Buying a gun brings her life in to focus.

You will breeze through this book, it’s fun and clever. I had a little trouble at the beginning getting in to it, as the humor seemed forced and Leah was on her high horse. But once I got to know Leah better, and I assure you, you will bond with her, I had a blast. Yes, there is some fairly graphic sex, but Leah is open and honest and it’s not gratuitous at all. You will love her dogs, her twenty-two-year-old lover, her old lady neighbor, and her mother. By the end of the story, Leah has sorted most of it, and has started a blog, thongburner.com How can you not love a book that ends like that? (Oh, and the bonus material at the end particularly the book club discussion questions is hysterical.)

Please author Leslie M. Rollins, can this book be the start of a series? Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy. This is my honest review.

This was a funny and light hearted read! It was exactly what you expected it to be, so it did not disappoint.

What? Man, this was a wild one! So un-politically correct but a fun read. Leah is a hoot. So mixed up but lovable. Her fling with the young guy was pretty hot. Whew! Older gals will totally enjoy it!

I forced myself to finish the book. I kept saying to myself "Ok, you don't have to like the main character, it's ok if you don't and it forces you to think why", and the like.
Leah didn't sound real at all. She's almost fifty, a job that's going nowhere and a boss she hates. Yet, she does nothing to change this.
She lives alone with her two dogs, claims to love her house, but doesn't clean it or look after her gardens, nor does she seem to like being there.
She's single, but predates much younger boys. If the main character was a fifty year old male speaking about young girls the way this woman speaks about young guys, no woman in her right mind would like the story.
Also, that poor guy doing all her cleaning and fixing her things, so that later she can get to do whatever she wants (again, if it was a man getting a dildo into the young girl without any sort of warning or talking about it earlier, nobody would consider printing it).
She goes to therapy, yet, she doesn't talk to her shrink.
She's anti-guns, but buys a gun at the first opportunity.
I didn0t find it funny at all. I only think it got to this point because the main character was a woman. Had it been a man, it would have never left the author's computer.

Thanks NetGalley and the Publisher for my ARC of this book, sorry for the review.

Well, I haven't had one of these in a long time. And, I don't take reviewing books
lightly. I mean, I'm trusted to provide honest feedback and at the same time, I am aware that my review goes into the overall pot of reviews for an average. Which may affect the number of readers a book has. So, when I say 1 star, understand that I really could not get attached enough to suggest it to anyone. Reviewer guilt is a real thing. I know someone poured their energy for an unknown amount of time into the book, teams of people believed in this book. And, maybe, MAYBE it has an amazing ending. But, after reading 30% (thank you, Kindle), I could not carry on.

The story starts out with an attempt to hook you using a bitter, headstrong, main character. She is unhappy about a lot of things. She uses odd names for people in her life, instead of their real names and that was difficult for me. She goes to a gunshow and buys a gun, that she then also names and tucks away in her closet. She becomes infatuated with it, the thoughts of it, and speaks almost to the power that she feels it gives her. She then starts to obsess over a young college boy that moves in across the street. The writing is so all over the place at the beginning and so much of it is bouncing around from her work, then the gunshow, then her time with her therapist... I couldn't do it, y'all.

Good-Time Girl gets 1 star from me.

I was provided this book in exchange for an honest review on @Netgalley. #dud #nextbookplease #bookreview #1star #goodtimegirl #honestreview #notmycupoftea

Good-Time Girl was a quick and funny read that had me chuckling and rolling my eyes rather often.

Leah, the main character, is a single, never-married, gal in her late forties who has two pups. She also prefers to go after much younger guys. The only part I related to her on was that we both have dogs. Also, we both have a tendency to have really ridiculous luck. However, with that said, I did find her character to be very amusing.

The story moved at a quick pace following along with Leah's every day life. Work, home, neighbor-watching, and everything in between. She manages to bed a considerably younger guy who she convinces to help her get her "revenge" on thongs.

All in all, this was a quick read that I found to be very entertaining.

I love all the characters especially Leah, she is outrageously crazy and her thoughts are quite entertaining. I often ask myself, why am I reading this book? Am I unwell that I'm some what enjoying this book? Oh well, the story is addicting for some reason and I couldn't stop myself. Leah's adventures and way of thinking is way out there. However, there are times that the story was dragging and boring, but there are exciting times as well. I would definitely buy this book and highly recommend it to anyone who needs to maniacally laugh. Enjoy!

DNF. I made it 30 percent through before I gave up. The main character bitches endlessly about how old she is. She’s 48, never married, and absolutely obsessed with bedding younger men because the married man she’s banging is a lowly courier and has a paunch. If you only want to seduce men who are twenty-five years younger than you, then of course you’re going to feel ancient all the time. Also, there is one sentence where Leah mentions she has friends, but there is no other sign that she actually does. She just bitches about her job and how she’s becoming irrelevant because she is so, so old. Bitch bitch bitch.

Many of us have made the observation that thong underwear is ridiculous both because you pay for an entire pair of underwear but get half and also who wants cloth shoved up her buttcrack all day? But beyond that, I identified with the character not at all. Oh wait, she has a dog and I do love dogs. OK, so that’s it then.

Thanks to NetGalley for the read.

The first Net Galley Book I haven’t finished. Really not for me, didn’t like the way it was written or the language used. Sorry...

This was not one I liked or could make myself sit through. Not just a shallow easy read, but a completely airgeaded read for me. I didn’t like to not feel like there was any value to reading.

Unfortunately I could get past the first few chapters. It's lost me at the cougar sniffing out onion B.O! The few chapters I read didn't seem to flow. Not my cup of tea

I couldn't get past the first couple chapters of this book. The scenarios were just to unimaginable for me.

I can honestly say this is a book like nothing I've ever read before.

Thank you for the wonderful ARC I received from Wishing Star Press via Netgalley!

Leah is totally irrational and sometimes (well most of the time) really out of her mind but my God is she funny.

I don't often read books and laugh out loud but this book really made me laugh out loud a lot. Despite her being crazy I feel like me and Leah totally shared a sense of humor and I admired her and her cougarness.

The book really surprised me at points. While it seemed just quirky and funny on the surface, I felt it began to dive deep towards the end. At one point Leah has an internal discussion about her role in the feminist movement and has some self evaluation about her place. I really enjoyed the end overall and I was happy to see her ground herself a bit. It was well written and I really loved all the characters. Part of me just wished it was longer.

This is more of a 3.5 for me than a 4. But I didn't think it was fair to give it 3 stars. I kinda want everyone to read this. It's so unique and it's not very often I'm itching to read a book any small chance I can just so I can laugh and see what happens. I find often a good laugh and a plot don't coincide, but Rollins did it here.

(Also, Flynn owns my heart.)

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, I'm a little bit on edge by this book. The main character, Leah is a fifty-nine-year-old woman who acts like a narcissistic, immature teenager with no impulse control. Not only that, but she drags her unsuspecting young neighbor into her plots and they both wind up in a world of trouble. For the first 30% of the book (according to my Kindle), I didn't like it at all and was forcing myself to read it to provide this review. Then it got really good, and I enjoyed it for a while until she went kind of crazy. During and after the incident at the mall I was pretty much done with this character and had trouble finding redeeming qualities in her-I just wanted the book to end at that point.

🙃 Zany behavior from a suburbanite fighting middle age blues🙄
3.5 🌟stars
I had mixed feelings about this story. I liked the zany, was hooked on the age gap romance, and felt Leah's frustration at ageism on the job. I also liked the originality of the main character Leah. Her rants and crazy behavior made for a wild and unpredictable ride with a sarcastic edge. Her relationship with young neighbor Flynn was, for me, the best part of the book..

But the story was disjointed at times, the sessions with Leah's shrink seemed a waste of pages and I was disappointed with the abruptness of the conclusion; I felt cheated out of a full closure.

I might read this author's work again but I'd be hoping for more and, romantic that I am, a more romantic and definitive conclusion.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book provided through NetGalley; this is my voluntary and honest review.

I found the main character to be so unlikeable from the beginning that I never did warm up to her. I could not care less about what happened to her. This was supposed to be humorous but I found it crass instead. I am surprised to find that the author is a middle aged woman. I don't know any woman that make it that far that still use the phrase "on the rag". The main character was high strung and whiny. and as far as humor, crudeness doesn't equate humor, even in this day of adult cartoons.

Didn't finish the book. I really liked the premise, but it didn't hold my attention for long enough for me to finish the book.
