I did not finish - I have tried reading this book on multiple occasions and just could not get into it.

A book of different stories with the same character. Lots of whimsical fun words too.

I have enjoyed this cute series that introduces children to big words that are fun to say, and provides humorous context for those words. The plays on words, the vocabulary building, and the funny stories make this series a hit with teachers and young readers!

Oleander and her friend Sally Mander have breakfast, go to a restaurant, get buff, plant daisies, have tea with the Queen, and then are in a play with the Sprinkle Fairy and her Sprinklers.

I love the way these readers have short little humorous stories and teach vocabulary that is then reinforced with the final play. A great mnemonic device for learning a vocab word is to put it in a funny or memorable situation. And these stories are sure memorable. The word is introduced in context and then fully defined at the end of each story. This book teaches the words regurgitate, attire, procrastinate, flabbergasted, and peccadillo (never fear, adults, you can learn from this book too if you haven’t seen some of these words since taking the SAT). Hand this book to English language learners, kids working on building their vocabulary, kids just getting into chapter books, and those looking for funny stories. Highly recommended.

A fun way to incorporate big words into story time. I love the idea, the stories are a little cheesy for me. I am sure some kids will enjoy the humor.

Sally Mander, a salamander and Oleander are in a Big Words Small Stories book. The stories are so quite, and funny, plus you get to learn large words, and add them to your vocabulary.

This book, the third in the series, explores the words meaning of Attire, Peccadillo, procrastinate, regurgitate and Flabbergasted.

But wait, you may say, aren't those words to big for kids to learn?

No, because it is all part of the funny stories.

And I will admit that I wasn't even aware of the one of the words, Peccadillo, to case a small offense.

Great way to kids to get interested in words. And I love the characters that help too.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

I am flabbergasted at how cute this book was. The sprinkle fairy was an interesting way to warn us when a big word was coming. A fun idea to teach children big worlds in an interesting way.

It would be a peccadillo if I didn’t give this book 5 stars.
