"Felicity Carrol and the Murderous Menace" is an interesting story. Taking place in 1889, we follow Felicity as she embarks on an investigation in states following the death of a woman of the night. It's characters are interesting though its plot is a little predictable. It's worth the read.

Sherlock Homes and Indiana Jones wrapped in the body of Victorian female.

While most books have struggles of a intelligent being butting head with those who protest or test their ideas, our protagonist struggles with the social norms prevalent in her times. This give the character real depth apart from her intelligent.

Another thing I loved about the book was how the author did a fantastic job of keep ahead of the reader, keep them guessing but also enough foreshadowing. It's like I wanted to solve the puzzle but never could quite grasp it,

If you enjoy cozy mysteries or detective mysteries, you WILL enjoy this book. Not to mention, she will solve more mysteries in the future.

What an excellent plot and character development!!

This title follows on the first Felicity Carrol mystery which was titled Felicity Carrol and the Perilous Pursuit. It is clear, in this second title, that Felicity in no way avoids risk and peril.

This historical mystery is quite enjoyable. Readers enter Felicity’s world in 1889. She is in England as the story begins but, for complicated reasons, she heads to the U.S. where she investigates the death of a street walker. This is at the urging of a Scotland Yard inspector from the first novel. He wonders if Jack the Ripper has traveled to America. Has he? Felicity will try to find out.

Readers may well be expecting this book to be a cozy but it is a bit more substantive. I hope that one day Felicity may come back in a third adventure. She is a daring and unconventional woman of her time.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Press for this title. All opinions are my own.

I received this ARC copy around the time I was slowly dipping my toes into the mystery genre. However, this book did not help me feel eager to explore more of it. I did not care much about the characters or the plot. This was not for me however; I would recommend this book to people who love the genre more than I.

Feisty Protagonist…
The second of the Felicity Carrol mysteries and a string of gruesome murders has rocked the country, coinciding with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. A pacy, well plotted and entertaining Victorian mystery with a feisty protagonist in Felicity and a deftly drawn cast.

The characters and the case in this second book in the Felicity Carol series are wonderful, both the detail of each as well as the feeling of resolution for each by the end of the book. The downfall for myself was that I could not get fully into the book until about 2/3 into, and I can’t explain why that happened. I would still recommend the book to anyone interested in crime, Jack the Ripper, and a strong female lead and I would also be happy to read a 3rd book if one was written, but I would caution that you need to be committed to the book to get to the good part.

The writing is awkward and feels like an early draft, which is too bad because the story was really good, really interesting. So this is a DNF, A little more polish would have gone a long way.

i always enjoy time pieces where you have a lady who doesn't want a stupid husband but instead is out here solving crimes! and we have Jack the Ripper in America! but he goes to Montana, which is kind of boring, felt like New York would be more exciting but oh well. The author did a good job of covering book 1's main things which is good since my little library did not have book 1 in either ebook or paper/hard back.

Smug know-it-all heroine. I couldn't finish this book. The pacing of the narration was not for me. There was no nuance to it.

This is my first adventure into a historical cozy mystery. I was greatly surprised that I enjoyed this book. The writing was great and the details and description of the murders where done so well that it defiantly has an effect. The characters are well developed and I didn't see that twist coming.

I went into this one really excited. I loved the first book in the series and was anxious to see what the crazy Felicity Carrol would be up to this time. The story was entertaining, but I did not like that it was about an actual person. Taking on Jack the Ripper is a huge undertaking, and althoughMarcantonio did well, I would have rather lived in her fictitious world instead of bringing in a dose of reality. With that being said, the story was entertaining and I did enjoy it. As was with the first book, Felicity was magnificent with her sleuthing skills. I was left a bit wanting with the relationship between Felicity and Pike, but she does need to go back home to Jackson and it was all for the best. Again I loved the secondary characters and their development in this story. Thank you so much to NetGalley for the eARC. I will definitely be reading more in this series. 4 stars

*3.5 STARS

This was a really fun, fast-paced Victorian mystery that had a lot of good things going for it. It's the second book in the Felicity Carrol Mystery series and follows Felicity as she tracks down the elusive Jack the Ripper to Montana and begins to investigate eerily similar murders to those committed in London.

I was at a slight disadvantage having not read the first book but honestly, I still managed to get by fairly well considering. There are a fair few references to the first book, events that happened with her father as well as her relationship with a Scotland Yard detective but overall I felt that this could definitely be read on it's own if you wished to do so. I will say that it's made me more inclined to go back and pick up the first book now as I'm interested to see how Felicity's journey begins.

Felicity is a very gutsy, fearless but extremely caring heroine who's hunt for the killer made for an exciting and twisty murder mystery. She's a very loyal friend, choosing to travel to track down a murderer on behalf of her friend and once she'd set her mind to it, nothing could deter her. She's also pretty headstrong and independent as well, at times discarding the law and the consequences of her actions in pursuit of justice. She felt extremely modern at times with her personality which some people have mentioned took them out of the story but personally I liked how ahead of her time she was.

The plot was what intrigued me the most initially, a continuation of the infamous Jack the Ripper case with a female amateur detective on the trail. Marcantonio managed to create a well crafted extension of the murders and shifted the setting from Whitechapel to Montana with ease. The original case was well researched and strong links could be made between both sets of killings, I really believed that the killer was striking again in a new town. Her writing was strong with just a few instances where I felt like I was being told and not shown.

Overall, I really liked the spin on the classic case and the ending was a decent suprise as the culprit was a character that I hadn't even really considered. The author did a terrific job of giving little hints but managed to make the mystery conclude in a way that felt suitable but would also shock the reader. I also liked that there were hints of romance between Felicity and another character but it never overshadowed the main plot. I had a fun time with this book and would definitely be interested in picking up future installments, Felicity is capable of solving anything thrown her way.

Felicity isn't interested in fancy parties or husband catching. She is interested in forensic science. Using her photographic memory, she finds a murderer in Montana, helping her Scotland Yard friend who cannot travel. Felicity soon suspects that Jack the Ripper is responsible for these murders!

This book is a great combination of mystery genres & tropes. Those interested in cozy mysteries will be interested and classic mystery lovers will want a copy for themselves. The premise is super intriguing. Felicity is a great heroine!

I enjoyed this book for the mystery and the 'who done it'. I also love a strong female character that knows what she wants and won't take no for an answer. Felicity was strong minded and I loved that.
My biggest con however was how they talked about the Native American characters. I understand that it was set waaay in the past but it did make me feel uncomfortable.
Overall it was a decent read, thank you Netgalley for the copy
