Decided to request and read this book because the first in the series was well written and left us on a cliffhanger.

This book was even wilder than the first. The conclusion was natural and left room for continuation but it isn’t needed. If you love Pretty Little Liars, then you will absolutely enjoy reading this.

Deb season was nothing compared to the White Gloves. The secrets are juicier, the drama is bigger and the final reveal will have you questioning everyone. An excellent finale to this duology.

Excellent follow up to the first. I loved these characters! Barnes is at her best! I cannot wait to see what is next for her.

I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!

THIS WAS SO GOOD!!! I wasn't blown away by the first book but I enjoyed it so I was skeptical when I started Deadly Little Scandals but holy drama!! It was like reading a soap opera! I honestly still don't understand what actually happened because there was so much going on but I ate this book up. I LOVED. (To be honest though, I think I will love everything this author writes.)

I have such a love/hate relationship with high society books, not in the way where I both love and hate them but where I either strongly love or strongly hate them. Barnes' Debutantes series is a love. They're high drama and scandal, over the top, and a rip-roaring romp from start to finish. Deadly Little Scandals ups the intensity from Little White Lies, once again packing a furious punch of humor and high society scandal.

If you liked the first book, you'll no doubt enjoy this one as well. Tonally, it's similar, albeit darker in terms of content and potential consequences. In the first book, the flash forward scenes show the girls in jail; in this book, it shows two of the girls buried alive. Rarely do I enjoy time jumps, especially if they're absurdly short, but, well, somehow they're super effective the way Barnes does it in this novel. They get you wanting to know how they got there and who buried them.

There are two things that make me adore the hell out of this series:
1) The humor. The dialog is banterrific consistently, all of the characters constantly dishing out sass, aside from Sadie-Grace, the Rose of this foursome. (Sidebar: Sadie-Grace could so easily be annoying, but I find her so endlessly endearing. She's charmingly naive and gullible in a way that's really difficult to pull off.)

2) The strength of the female characters. Whether they're villains of main characters, the women in this series exhibit various kinds of strength, and the stories are ALL about them. Men are generally little more than unreliable, idiotic set dressing, and I could not love that more. Where debutante high society stuff tends to be all about getting a man, it's nice that that's scarcely a factor here. In fact, the main plot of Deadly Little Scandals is all about women trying to impress other women and about female friendships.

This is a rare case where I'm going to say that I wish there hadn't been a romance, at least for the main character. Sadie-Grace's relationship with Boone is so in the background and such a nice source of comedy that I don't mind it. Sawyer's romance with Nick is forced as hell, and I just don't feel any chemistry between them whatsoever. That said, it's not a huge deal since there isn't much narrative devoted to it, but I do think it would have been stronger without the romance. (I shudder to say this since I always want MORE romance but alas.)

This book is COMPLETELY bonkers. Like, it's got Gossip Girl eyebrow-raising hijinks on lock, and that's either going to be your thing or not. The resolution of this will probably be divisive, and I'm not 100% on how I feel about it, but I do appreciate how complex and unexpected some of it is, despite the fact that I did figure out the twist before it happened.

It's rare that I want to reread books without awesome ships, but I might reread these someday. They're such an excellent, clever brain vacation.

I couldn’t get enough of Sawyer and her friends/relations. This entire world is foreign to me, as it was to Sawyer, but her quick wit and intelligence made it a very interesting place to be.

Deadly Little Scandals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes was one of my best reads of 2019. It was absolutely incredible and I couldn't put it down.

I loved this series, but the ending felt cut off in the same way her THE FIXER series did--everything had to get crammed into a hundred pages.

Sawyer has always wanted one thing: to find out who her father is. So when her grandmother appears and gives her the opportunity to get closer to her mother’s family, she jumps at the chance. But answers don’t come easy, and once Sawyer finally finds them, they aren’t exactly what she expected, which complicates things and leaves her with huge secrets to keep from her newfound friends and family members.

After the bombs that were dropped in book one, our characters find themselves looking to enjoy a summer free from all of the drams, so they head to their favorite summer getaway: the lake. But of course, where the Debutantes are, the drama is sure to follow, and hijinks ensue when the fab four find themselves being tested for the super-selective secret society The White Gloves.

If you thought that things couldn’t possibly get crazier for these characters, you would be wrong. Deadly Little Scandals is rife with the drama and intrigue that made me fall in love with Little White Lies. If anything, things were even crazier and more unexpected in the sequel, which I absolutely adored!

I gave Deadly Little Scandals 5/5 stars. I loved the drama and all of the twists and turns! There were some things that I was able to foresee, but many of the turns were a bit of a surprise!

I loved this book—it was exactly what I needed right now. It is 100% campy and soapy, but it also views its characters complexly. One of my favorite passages was towards the end, where one character hilariously sums up the batshit plot in a paragraph.

It’s been coming for a few years now, but I’m ready to say it—Jennifer Lynn Barnes is now on my list of authors where I will read anything they write. She starts with a great premise (for The Naturals series its “Criminal Minds FBI profilers, BUT TEENS!” and The Fixer series is “Scandal’s Olivia Pope, BUT A TEEN!”) and then… she sticks to that premise. I’m a sucker for a good premise that delivers on what it promises.

The loose premise for both books in the Debutantes series is something like Gossip Girl or Pretty Little Liars, but with debutantes in maybe Alabama or Mississippi. After the first book, which centered on our main character Sawyer figuring out which high society dad might be her father, I was concerned Barnes might run out of plot in this one. NOPE! So much plot! Twists and turns! I won’t spoil things, but man. This was a 24-hour-or-less book for me, and rightfully deserves my second “Best of 2020” slot.

YAASSSSSS!!! Deadly Little Scandals was EXACTLY the book I needed in my life! I swear it breathed life back into me. The plot twists in Deadly Little Scandals were jaw dropping and I literally NEVER saw them coming.

Reading Deadly Little Scandals is akin to reading three different stories at one time, that all culminate into one a explosive ending. We are told the story in pieces starting with the current bind Sawyer finds herself in, her aunt and friend's portion of the story from years ago along with the the timeline of the story leading up to predicament that Sawyer has found herself in, before seeing how the story is played out.

With the story being written this way we are slowly spoon fed information that will leave you yearning for more to know what really happened and who the dead body belongs too! Not to mention the new secret society that we are introduced to as well.

Deadly Little Scandals has murder, deception and scandals galore. Throughout the story there are more secretes revealed than I ever thought possible from one book, and truly hoping there will be more to come from these debutantes. The story arcs were wrapped up nicely in the end, but I'm sure we could pull some threads loose to wreck more havoc in this small town.

This series is fun, exciting and intense and anyone who loves a mystery filled with drama and scandal needs to read this series!

Love love loved this sequel!

Fun, flirty, and oh so intriguing. I loved Sawyer from day one and her merry band of misfit friends. It was a pleasure to continue following their adventures. Love a good mystery and strong female characters!

For a book 2 this was a solid sequel that kept me guessing till the very end, I raced thru this!

This was a fun novel and I loved getting to know the characters all over again. The story was interesting and entertaining, but there were times when it got just a little to soap opera-ish. I often had a hard time keeping up with who was related, who was lying, and who was friend or foe. It was a fun and fast paced read and I would recommend continuing the series of you read the first book. Thank you netgalley for sending a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Sawyer Taft is back with another southern high society debutante drama. This time she spends her time alternating between the family home and their summer lake house. Much more comfortable among her cousin Lily and their fellow debutante friends, Sawyer is still determined to solve the puzzle of her biological father. As she becomes closer with the girls, though, Sawyer must be careful not to upset the balance they have achieved. Drama seems to follow these girls wherever they go, and pledging to a long time debutante, elite, all female secret society may give Sawyer the answers she’s been seeking. Not everyone wants Sawyer to solve the mystery, though.

THOUGHTS: A new cast of characters with some old friends will ensure readers are on the edge of their seats. A must-have for libraries where Little White Lies and mysteries are popular.

Does anyone remember the ABC series Revenge? Remember all the twists and turns and ridiculousness of those with more money than should be legal? Jennifer Lynn Barnes gives that show a run for its money with her Debutantes books.

And while Little White Lies features plenty of surprises, Deadly Little Scandals takes things to a new level altogether. There is so much going on here, that if you’re not familiar with the players, you’ll get lost, so…. Read Book 1 First!

Barnes does a fantastic job of writing characters that you want to read about. Even under all the money, there’s more than the typical trope that can make a story one note. Honestly, a lot of what happens in Deadly Little Scandals seems ludicrous, but that’s what makes it and its predecessor so much fun. I gobbled up both books in one day each. They’re so addicting, I’m looking forward to rereading them multiple times.

This book was a fun, wild romp, but at the same time I kind of had no idea what was going on half the time? It was well written and requires paying attention since the title's scandals are numerous, so I admittedly didn't keep track all that closely and just went along for the ride. A fun duology, a good library borrow/1 time read for me.

** I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review."
The first book was such a fun ride. I never watched Pretty Little Liars but I get the feeling this is how that show goes.
This book is very campy and convoluted. You cannot read it without your tongue firmly in your cheek. I have never been wealthy so I cannot say if this kind of thing is common but this is what many imagine inhabits that world. There are so many twists and turns that it was easy to get confused. I loved the brother and his faithful companion. I felt bad for the girls because they were trying to dig out from under decades of family lies.
Although it wasn't as good as the first book, it was still a good story. I really liked this duet.
There were formatting issues with the ARC. That made the story hard to get through in points.

This book picks up where the first book in the series, Little White Lies, left off. Sawyer Taft entered the debutante world to find her father, but ended up having more questions than answers after learning his true identity. When Sawyer's cousin, Lily, talks Sawyer into pledging the White Gloves. The White Gloves are a secret society filled with debutantes, which means that one of the girls may know the answers to Sawyer's questions. As Sawyer investigates, she finds that there are even deeper secrets lurking than she thought.

I enjoyed the first book, but this one fell a little flat for me. Sawyer followed so many different clues throughout the book. Sawyer became more tempered in this book, which was slightly disappointing to me as I loved her fiery personality in the first book. The book spent too much time building up to the climax of the book. The ending felt rushed, though still interesting. Prior to the ending, I was almost set to give the book only 2 stars. However, since I didn't see the ending coming, I bumped the book up to 3 stars.

I read the first Debutantes book in one sitting and this sequel was no different. I thought that the lives of these characters could not get any juicier, but I was absolutely WRONG. Barnes does an amazing job of creating an environment where the reader is on edge and in suspense. I hate books where I can figure out the endings before it is done. She leads you down the track of thinking one way, all the while setting up new information that completely puzzles together in the end result. I know that doesn't make sense... but those who read will understand this review after ;). This book is well worth a trip to the bookstore. I'm still reeling months after finishing it. I recommend this to all of my students who love a bit of drama, thrill, mystery, and sass.
