We Were Sisters is an easy read, although I found its pace a tad slower than I would have liked. That said it's a good way to pass a quiet few hours wherever you may be.
A well paced and nicely twisted thriller with an appealing character and a to of tension. No spoilers from me on this one.
I would recommend this story to all thriller lovers. This book took me by surprise. It kept me interested throughout the story and I needed to see what was going to happen. I truly enjoyed the pacing of the story and the well-written characters.
An enjoyable read from Wendy Clarke that kept my attention. I enjoyed how the book went back and forth to develop the story of the sisters. At times I felt it a little hard to connect with the lead character but overall well with reading. Tha ks to the publisher and Netgalley for the advanced copy.
This is my second read by this author and once again I really enjoyed it.
A brilliantly written psychological thriller that was full of tension and pace. I loved how this book had an edge to it, which was almost creepy.
I also enjoyed the mix of intriguing characters. Each were well developed and with the duel timeline, it added a mystery to the story, especially the past chapters of how the ‘sister’ fit into the storyline in both timelines.
A great psychological thriller threat really did keep me gripped.
Kelly is taking her twin daughters to their first day of school, ushering them into the classroom, her heartbreaking to think they might not need her anymore when she turns around and sees that her newborn baby is gone.
As a desperate search ensues, baby Noah is quickly found – parked in front of a different classroom. But when Kelly reaches forward to comfort him, she finds something tucked beside his blanket. A locket that belonged to her sister Freya. A locket Kelly hasn’t seen since the day Freya died.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The plot was very plausible and I really felt for the main character. I have read two of this author books and enjoyed them both.
3.5 stars - Unfortunately, this book didn’t live up to my expectations, and I had to give this one 3.5 stars.
The premise of the book was a good one and I was very intrigued by where the story was going to go. However, I felt like the story was slow and dry. It took me quite a while to power through the novel. One of my main issues was that the main characters were unlikeable and one-dimensional. We didn’t get much character development that would usually permit me to gain more sympathy and get really invested in the story.
This could have been a great thriller but the lack of character development, the predictable twists, and lacklustre ending just left me disappointed. This isn’t a horrible book, just kind of an average read.
Even though this wasn’t my favourite book, I’d still be interested in reading other books by Wendy Clarke.
Really enjoyed this book. Loved the way the tension built in the present day and alongside this, we saw glimpses into the past. Good twist at the end. Looking forward to more!
I absolutely loved What She Saw by Wendy Clarke so I was excited to read another book by her. We Were Sisters had a great story but it fell flat for me. It was slow and drawn out and the secrets were not shocking or surprising to me. The main characters were all a bit meh for me, I was hoping for more and for them to develop into people that I could connect with. Unfortunately it did not happen. I did enjoy the story but it could have been better.
I found Kelly and her family dynamics very interesting. Dealing with small children, mental health issues and ocd, counting to keep the ones she loves safe. When strange, impossible things start happening you are not sure what is real and what is part of her imagination caused by stress and lack of sleep. Step by step Kelly's past is revealed slowly intertwining with her present leading to a gob smacking conclusion. A real page turner which evoked a whole range of emotions. .
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for my arc ebook
I'm sorry to say that I didn't enjoy this one. It had all the components of a great thriller, but for me it fell flat.
The characters were all unlikeable and really lacked any depth.
There was a lot of build up and nothing really happens, it was very anticlimactic and just overall pretty disappointing.
A brilliant, accomplished debut. Edge of your seat tension, twisty plot, and well drawn characters, I will look out for future books by this author.
I'm going to keep this review short, because this just wasn't the book for me.
Unreliable narrator - check
Ghostly creepy "sibling" - check
Suburban life drama - check
We Were Sisters had all the makings of a good suburban thriller, one I should've enjoyed, but I found myself pushing myself to turn the pages. The action is slow, the suspense lacking, and the thrill and twists predictable. I never found myself attached to any character and ultimately I finished this one purely to say I finished it.
This book kept my interest the whole time. There was so much going on in this book. I really like how the story unravelled. I thought I knew what was going on but really I had no idea. The book is actually told by Kelly. It was a bit of a slow burner at the start but dont give up it gets better.
This is one intense, twisted, dark and addictive novel! Not only is this a very well-written book with wonderfully-interesting characters, but the suspense builds at just the right pace as the story unfolds. Compulsive, gripping and horrifying! Will keep you on the edge of your seat!
This was another thrilling read by a very talented author. The book grips the reader at the beginning, not letting go until the end, leaving the reader endlessly thrilled! Recommended.
This is a really good psychological thriller with a relatable plot and a positive message at the end. I found the writing style good and I liked the characters. Definitely recommend. 4/5.
Fantastic thriller full of twists and turns that kept me guessing from the start. One of the best thrillers I have read in a long time. Will recommend
Thank you to netgalley and the author and publishers for the opportunity to read this ARC for my honest opinion
