This engaging, unique, post-apocalyptic teen novel uses skillful world-building and character development to pull readers into a world without trees. A likeable protagonist and interesting storyline will keep readers turning pages.

Action packed, with characters I found interesting and compelling. The work building was a bit too complicated for me.

This is not a bad launch point for a light scifi/dystopia. It's one of those where the story works best if you don't look at the particulars too closely. Don't ask for too many details and you'll be very able to submerge into the weird and dystopic future Howard has created. It's a real nightmare but it's quick moving and driven by a few decent characters.
