I like this author, and this series in particular has been a good one thus far, so to say I went into Born to Be a Cowboy with high expectations is faie. Were they met? Yes...and no.
As with the earlier books, the focus on family here is an absolute delight—it’s beautiful to see a family that’s tied together not by blood but by love and respect. The relationships between Finn and his brother, his dad, and his mentor as all incredibly rewarding and written to perfection. There is such a wonderful sense of kinship and admiration and pride in their ragtag unit, and I most especially appreciate how they welcome newcomers so easily.
However—I struggled a wee bit with the mystery here. It felt somewhat predictable—not that it lessened my enjoyment too much, honestly—and a little labored. That, couples with the rapid pacing of the ending, meant that this one fell short for me.
On the romance front, it was (as always) sweet and sexy and heartwarming. The chemistry between Jessie and Finn was apparent enough to kept me invested, but honestly, I read this one for the family love, not the true love. (Finn’s family is his true love #FightMe.)
All in all, a solid ending to a good series. I found lots to like about Born to Be a Cowboy, and am already looking forward to seeing what R.C. Ryan does next.
Finn Monroe is the youngest of three boys adopted by widowed rancher Mac Monroe. He was the wildest and angriest of the three. With patience Mac finally got through to him and now as a adult is a successful lawyer. Jessie Blair walks into his office and nothing will ever be the same. Jessie was raised by her aunt on a ranch. Now her aunt is supposedly suddenly married and can't be found. All roads have lead dead ends so she enlists Finn to help. The childhood tragedies of these two taught them to hold the family they have tight. Finn and his family step up to help Jessie in anyway they can . Finn tries to be a professional but the attraction between the two can't be denied. I loved these two. They gave me all the squishies. A well written series that i enjoyed immensely.

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I have read other books in this series and wanted to join up with the characters on another adventure. This isn’t a normal romance genre book, it definitely adds a sense of mystery and intrigue. Danger takes on a whole new meaning in this HEA romance.
Aunt Nola goes missing and Jessie sets out to get to the bottom of her aunt’s disappearance. Jessie finds herself at Finn’s law office an hour away from home looking for help. There she find the love and support from the Monroe family and as always...her happily ever after!
I absolutely love this series. It has so many wonderful, endearing characters. I love following along as this amazing group of characters find love. This was Finn and Jessie's story. They are wonderful characters with great chemistry. I love all of the characters in this amazing series but, what I love most is the family dynamic. When I was reading this book it pulled me in and I felt warmth, comfort and a feeling of being at home with family. I could go on and on about this book but, to sum it all up this is an AMAZING book and an AMAZING series.

BOOK BLURB
This New York Times bestselling author delivers a "page-turning romance" (Nora Roberts) about a woman in jeopardy who finds protection--and love--in the arms of a small-town cowboy.
After running wild in his youth, Finn Monroe is now on the other side of the law as the local attorney. Between his practice and working at his family's ranch, his days aren't as exciting as they used to be--until Jessica Blair steps into his office. Gorgeous and determined, Jessie has a hunch her aunt is in trouble, and Finn is her last hope. As someone who relies on facts rather than feelings, Finn is skeptical. But it can't hurt to do a little digging.
Jessie knows her aunt, and there is no way she would disappear on an "extended honeymoon" after hastily marrying a smooth-talking cowboy. Something is wrong, and Jessie is going to find out what. As soon as she and Finn start poking around, it becomes clear someone is willing to go to great lengths to keep them from the truth. But as the danger grows, so does their attraction. With both their lives on the line, Finn will discover just how far he'll go to keep Jessie safe.
Includes Cowboy to the Rescue, a bonus novella by A.J. Pine!
My Thoughts
Handsome, successful and a respected Lawyer former ”misfit” and openly rebellious in his youth Finn Monroe has the type of family that his newest client, Miss Jessica Blair, feels not only comfortable with but also safe amongst as well.
Once upon a time Finn and his 2 brothers, oldest Ben and middle brother Sam, were 3 orphans whose rocky road in life became something quite different, and at the time unbelievable to the wary brothers, when Mackenzie/”Mac" Monroe claimed them for his own and upon adoption brought them home permanently to his ranch outside Heller Montana.
The story behind their initial meeting and adoption is touched upon in a heart tugging conversation at one point between Finn and Jessie, it was a beautiful reminder that family is sometimes chosen without there being any blood ties.
Jessica Blair came to Finn because no one in her hometowns law enforcement ranks believed, or even took her worries about beloved Aunt Nola being gone without any contact for 2 weeks after a whirlwind marriage to a cowboy Jessie never met.
Aunt Nola has been Jessies sole family since losing her parents as a young child, the woman is everything to her and without Nola she feels lost inside. Another instance where she and Finn eerily mirror each others past tragedies.
Coming to the small town of Heller Montana from Arvid, only 90 miles away in distance but worlds away in character, was a last ditch effort on Jessie’s part to secure help with her quest to find the missing woman.
The result is a mind bending unraveling of a trail almost gone cold, that of a man whose life has been spent in the pursuit of wealth at the expense of innocent women who he seduces. This mystery brings not only Finn and Jessie closer but also the Monroe family becomes a family to her as well.
Between the budding romance, the family meals that make your mouth water and all the different events in between this was a fast read as once started did not want to stop until final resolutions were carried out.
Both with exactly how and why Jessies aunt, Nolinda/Nola Blair, was taken away from her beloved ranch but also how Finn and Jessies relationship turns out as well.
Upon finishing I almost missed not reading first 2 books in series but feel satisfied after a having chance to read Finn and Jessie's story.
I felt it was wonderful as a stand alone as it involved older brothers Ben and Sam, their respective spouses, ranch employees, people closely intertwined with the Monroes and their father Mackenzie/Mac Monroe so family/friends dynamic was well rounded and added nicely to the readers enjoyment.
At some point in the future it would be nice to read more of this authors works if ever get the chance again and have the time to do so.

A heartwarming third book in the Montana Strong series. Finn Monroe, youngest of the Monroe brothers is a lawyer in the town of Haller Creek. His two brothers have married, but Finn is concentrating on his career until the day that Jessica Blair enters his office needing his help. Her Aunt Nola is missing and she fears that her aunt is in danger. Finn agrees to help her locate her aunt, but once “accidents” start to happen threatening Jessie’s life, he knows this has turned in to a much more serious situation. Luckily, Finn can rely on his brother who is the town sheriff as well as his entire family. The author has wrapped up this series in a most satisfactory manner. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
I really wish I would have read the other books in the series first. This is the third book in the series and though it can kind of stand on its own, it would be better, in my opinion, to read the series as a whole to get the backstory for the family. This was a sweet western romance with strong family roots; not necessarily the family you are born into but the one you form. Jessie and Finn were great together, they really fit well; though she was a bit too ‘damsel in distress’ in some instances for me and the romance was predictable, it was still an enjoyable read with all that was going on. The overall storyline was engaging and was enough to hold my interest.
*I received an ARC via the publisher, through NetGalley and I am providing my honest review.
This is the third book in the Montana Strong. I thought this book has some angst, mystery and drama. This book has some twists, turns, and suspense. I truly enjoyed reading Finn and Jessie. I thought they had chemistry. It is well written and has a good storyline.
I read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are of my own. Thank you NetGalley and Forever for letting me read this book.
I have enjoyed the books in this series of brothers and I enjoyed this one as well. Not sure it was my fav but nonetheless it was entertaining enough to keep me reading until the end!
I liked this book a lot the cowboy aspect and the love and it has mild steam and I am here for that. I did not know that it was part of a series but I felt like I was missing a little because I haven’t read the other ones but you still can read this without the others
Like the first book in this series, this one dragged just as much. I began to skim pages, not really interested in the incredibly lengthy description of what the scenery looked like. The action picked up at the end, but it was predictable.
I gave this author a second chance, but unfortunately I think it'll be the last chance I give.
** ARC received from Netgalley **
This book went at record pace for me, way too fast. I really like the prologue and thought it a great set up for what was to come but everything went at lightning speed. There was repetition and not a lot of development based on the complexities of the characters backgrounds I thought the writing could have been much deeper.
A sweet romance with some mild steam. I actually found the intrigue part of this story was what kept my interest as I found the romance to be predictable. I loved all of Finn’s family and friends. I loved the strong familial and friendship bonds these characters had. My least favorite character was Jessie. She was too “damsel in distress” for me. I prefer my h’s to be strong and feisty, which was not my interpretation of Jessie’s character. Only an ok read for me.
This book is the third book in the Montana Strong series and this book is about Finn and Jessie. This book has been my favorite of the series so far. I loved the characters and the story was so much more then just a romance book. It was filled with drama, suspense and lots of intrigue. The chemistry between the Finn and Jessie was hot. I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more by this author. Thanks NetGalley. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
There are a lot of things to like about this book. Love, marriage, suspense, ranching, cowboys, strong men and women, adoption, kidnapping and the would be killer. This is an interesting, clean story, which I appreciate, thank you for that. There was a lot of unnecessary repetition. I would recommend this book to anyone. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
R.C. Ryan gives you another Monroe brother with such emotion set in the beautiful backdrop of Montana. This book was purely amazing.
Finn Monroe the youngest of the three brothers adopted by Mac Monroe he was now an Attorney and very happy with his life on their ranch and in their small town of Haller Creek, Montana. When Jessica Blair came to him looking for help all other avenues exhausted. He wasn't sure what it was about her story or the woman herself.
This book has everything that a great book needs I am sure you will enjoy as much as I did!
This is the third book in the Montana Strong series - and although this really is a standalone - I wish I had read the first two books before I got to this one. The focus of this book is on families - not necessarily the one we are born in to but the one we find and build with love. Both main characters were orphaned and left to be raised by extended family. For Jessie it turned out to be a home filled with love and growth. For Finn that home was filled with abuse and led to separation from his brothers. But, after a lot of trauma he found a home (with his brothers) with Mac. Both characters built strong family ties with those groups.
In this story, Jessie's aunt Nola has fallen victim to a serious predator - he is so skilled at transforming himself and becoming other people that no one but Jessie realizes there is a problem. Finn quickly comes to believe Jessie and goes above and beyond to help her.
Finn's family is extremely open and generous with Jessie. She and Finn are a natural fit for each other and very quickly fall in love. Finn makes a half-hearted attempt to stay away from Jessie - in consideration of the rules of attorney-client interactions, but that goes to the wayside very quickly.
Overall - this was a sweet book with some light sexy. I enjoyed it - but some things seemed to be resolved a little too easily and too neatly. The ending however, was what kept this from being a four star read for me. <Spoiler> I think that the drama between Finn and Jessie at the end was silly. Jessie decided she couldn't leave her aunt by herself anymore, and that by leaving her alone she had left her vulnerable - so naturally that meant she couldn't be with Finn. I was like - what the heck? He only lives 100 miles a way - why can't you still date? And why didn't either of them consider whether he'd consider moving his practice closer to Jessie. I know he is super tight with his family - but come on. It just didn't make sense. And don't get me started on her aunt - she heard the conversation between them, then saw how miserable Jessie was, but didn't say anything at all to try and knock some sense into Jessie. Oy. </spoiler>
If you like sweet western romances with a healthy dose of family, this is a book you should read!
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley but these opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book. Ms Ryan is very good at writing stories about families, related by blood or circumstances. I enjoyed reading both Ben and Sam’s stories but Finn’s story was my favorite. I liked that the circumstances that brought Jessie into Finn’s life was different and not too contrived. I, also, liked that Jessie was strong and didn’t make many emotional and dumb decisions (except one). While reading their story, it felt like going home.
Back to the Monroe family. I have enjoyed each book in this series and was excited to read Finn's story. This was the perfect story for our hot and sexy cowboy/attorney. When Jessie Blair walks in Finn has no option but to look his fill. Problem is, Jessie really needs his legal help. Her Aunt Nora is gone, vanished. Supposedly the forever single was swept off her feet and whisked away for marriage and a honeymoon. Jessie knows better. Aunt Nora wouldn't not include her in the events and would definitely NOT be gone from her ranch that long.
What starts as a quest for answers soon becomes a dangerous mission to dodge danger and find the truths that seem to be popping up with each new discovery. Jessie and Finn are very interested in one another, but Finn is a man of honor and definitely doesn't want to break attorney/client relationship rules.
The Monroe family is a great group of misfits and meant to bes. I loved reading each story and the closeness that came with each new person added to the brood. This story was especially interesting as not only did Nora's mystery get solved but things of the past came to light that had never been considered.
Great story. Thanks NetGalley!
Ms. Ryan weaves a tale about romance, pain, evil, angst, salvation, love and family.
Mackenzie Monroe once found three angry orphans intent on robbing him in his home shortly after losing his wife and son in an accident. That night proved to be the salvation for the boys and for Mac.
The boys grew up. Ben and Sam's stories are written in previous books in this series. If you haven't read them yet, I can highly recommend them as wonderfully engrossing family as well as love stories.
Finn Monroe is a lawyer as well as a rancher, modeling his career after Zachariah, a lawyer his father Mac had adopted into his family.
Jessica Blair comes to Finn desperate for help to find her aunt, since her case did not fit the parameters necessary for police intervention. He took her case skeptically, but as events unfolded, he came to believe her fully and moved to protect her.
This story has a truly evil villain, some less than stellar characters, and a bunch of honest, good christian people who came to Finn's ans Jessica's aid. The Monroe family is one that makes one heart glad and one that I would love to have for a neighbor.
Ms. Ryan's characters and scenes are so well defined that it played like a movie in my mind as I read it. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves cowboys, intrigue, romance or good family values.
I requested a NetGalley ARC as soon as I saw it was available and loved it. I hope it's not the last one in the series, I'd like to happy endings for all the men in this family.
