The first thing I have to say is this book is absolutely addicting and the perfect start to what I can guarantee will be an amazing series. This book has a little bit of everything you have action, suspense and even a little love. The characters are really what make this story so great, the author did an amazing job at creating such memorable and complex characters that will stick with you and have you randomly thinking back on them. I highly recommend this book to all readers.
Seven Crows by Kate Kessler is the first book in the thrilling Killian Delaney series. While the character development in this first book of the series will carry over into book two this one actually could be read as a standalone if choosing to do so.
Killian Delaney is a tough as nail ex-con that doesn’t regret her crime in the least. Killian had beaten a man within an inch of his life and would do it again in a heartbeat. After nine years of serving her time Killian only wants to keep her nose out of trouble and go about her life now that she’s out on parole.
When Killian gets a call from her sister that begs for help to find her niece Killian knows just who is responsible for the kidnapping. Forgetting about her parole Killian knows the man she went to jail over is at the center of a notorious biker gang and she will do nothing to find him and get her niece back before it’s too late.
Seven Crows is not the first book I’ve read by Kate Kessler, a few years ago I picked up her Audrey Harte series and really enjoyed the grittiness of her lead character. Killian has that same tough and dark side to her but instead of being a criminal psychologist Killian is a criminal herself. Killian story however is one that makes you want to side with her to take down the bad guys. Now the whole gang type of story isn’t exactly my favorite but so this opener of the series only rated at three and a half stars but I’d be interested to come back to see how the series develops with this new kick ass lead.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
What a ride!! This book was very fast paced, gritty, thrilling, & suspenseful. I enjoyed the strong female character. I would most definitely read a continuation of these characters in future books. Well done Kate!!!
If you enjoyed Sons of Anarchy (TV show) you will enjoy this book! I loved the idea that this book is about a totally morally grey WOMAN character. Killy (love the pun) is an old lady - someone who ran with a member of a motorcycle gang. When her lover is killed by an opposing faction, she went on a revenge kill, and ended up in prison for almost killing one guy. She is an MMA fighter, so she has those skills. And I loved that she was a strong person like that - who didn't need a guy to take care of her.
After Killy gets out of prison on parole, her old life seems to be chasing after her - someone kidnaps her niece to enact revenge on her. Killy goes on an action packed, fist fighting road to save her niece and along the way reveals her life story and uncovers some secrets about her past life.
I loved the look into a motorcycle club. It is a very different sort of story from what I usually like and read. But it was fun. Filled with loyalty, revenge, betrayals, secrets and of course some fights and gun fights, etc. It is definitely a thrill ride to the end. Looking forward to seeing where Killy and her fighting skills will take her in next book.
This one is action packed to the brim!
Think Taken, the Fast and Furious series and Die Hard combined.
This was a breath of fresh air for a thriller book. I enjoyed the main character and the storyline. Not use to a person just getting out of jail to be the hero in a book. Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to read this! Love finding new authors.
I really enjoyed reading this book, the mystery was great and the characters felt like real people. It kept me invested from beginning to end.
"An ex-con tracks down the men who have kidnapped her niece in this gritty and visceral thriller."
I would have to agree with that statement. It is gritty and hard to put down!

Thanks to @netgalley!
Seven Crows was a very good book! Loved the way the main character was strong and the story line was very entertaining with real situations problems.
l loved this book. Killian is my new hero. She is smart, sassy and tough. I hope there are more books with her in it.
Yes to giving this book five stars and yes to all of the characters in this book. The entire story felt real weather people out believe it or not there are people like this most of the time you only hear or come in contact with males, but Killian is a breath of fresh air. The story itself you keep you going from the beginning of her release from prison to the very last pages and you the reader left with what is going on with Story, another badass woman. Following Killian you are taken not only through what is happening now and the search for her niece and a look back at how and why she ended up in prison and the people from past and present. Overall a very good book and very much worth the read.
Seven Crows is a book that I so wanted to fall in love with, sadly it did not grip me the way I thought it would. The premise is great but I just didn’t enjoy the characters. I hope to read more from Kate Kessler in future
I received a digital advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really wanted to like this book. I really tried to dive into it super hard but it just fell flat for me. I didn't really connect with any of the characters. The writing was good, but it still felt very cliche.
Killian just wasn't set up for a character that you could sympathize with. The story as a whole just didn’t work for me. I almost hated the mundane things she did throughout the story. Like who does laundry when there is a kidnapper on the loose.. Like, oh I might get abducted, but I better make sure my socks are clean.
I didn’t like the storyline progression at all, but then again maybe I wasn’t the right audience which kind of baffles me as I have read several books by this author and I really enjoyed them.
I do want to thank the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to review this title.
Killian is not your typical heroine and that's what I loved about her. This story is action packed. There are parts that are dark and gritty and not for everyone. Realistically written and at times raw, this one grabs you at the start and doesn't let go. These are some of the most intriguing and complex characters I have ever read and Killian and Dash will stay with me for a long while. I want more by this author.
A fast moving thriller that builds tension straight from the start. A woman with a criminal past and little to lose must plan and execute the rescue of her niece from a gang of thugs that bear her a grudge or twelve. Her ability to fight through encounters with the ghosts of her past to insure her niece has a better life will have you cheering her on, even though her actions may not be the typical for the "good" guys. This was a very good book filled with excitement and a sense of doing whatever was needed to keep her family safe. I sincerely hope this is not the last we see of this cast of characters.
The premise is what reel me in, but overall I felt this book did not surprise or when there was the shocking scene in the book it just fell flat. I enjoy a strong female MMA fighter, but that it.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview Seven Crows by Kate Kessler. A hard core woman is released from Jail and must search for her missing niece. The premise is a good plot, however, I didn't find some of the diaglog plausible and some not real life.
Great to see a female lead that is tough, and so, I think I will try this book again at a later time. Just ok for me.
2.5 stars
I have been avidly following Kessler's writing since first reading her debut novel three years ago. I have since read - and thoroughly enjoyed - all of her novels. At first, I thought that this title would be part of the Audrey Harte series (many of the titles involve a number), but this is a standalone novel set in a grittier Connecticut than the one that may first spring to mind. The book is a bit like an East Coast version of a season of Sons of Anarchy - with rival biker gangs, trafficking women, drugs and plenty of violence.
Killian Delaney is the main narrator of the book. She is on parole after severely assaulting the man who ordered the murder of her boyfriend. And though she has since largely cut ties with her past, that all changes when she receives a call from her sister to say that fifteen year old Shannon is missing. Calling on old friendships, Killian risks everything to see Shannon home.
The book moves along at a fast pace and it's hard to put this one down. Kessler excels at this type of main character - one with a past, but a good heart. The romance, along with some of the secrets of the past, are easy to see coming. And the ending seems to leave a segway for a sequel. I will definitely continue on with this series if Kessler continues it - I do like the characters introduced here, and I am curious to learn even more about them. Either way, Kessler continues to be an author that I'll be watching out for!
EXCELLENT READ! This book keeps you on the edge of your seat and you won't be able to stop reading! I read the entire thing in one afternoon, I couldn't stop. A story of a mother's love for her daughter who goes missing and love for her family after a terrible childhood. A tough woman who stands up for her own and never gives up.
