As a diplomat in the Iraq War era, this book was a really interesting look at how we got to where we are.
Sorry for the late review. I am just getting round to them now as I’ve had a rough few months.. I have notes for the books that I reviewed but they may be cut short to get through them.
My husband is currently serving in Iraq at the moment. Months after I actually read this book. It hasn’t got much to do with the deployment and more so with what made them decide to make the move.
It was great how they had both sides of the coin - both for and against the move.
Enjoyable and informative read.

The Last Card is an excellent, scholarly review of the Bush Administration’s decision to surge in Iraq in late 2006 – early 2007. It is not a review of the surge itself, but rather of the decision-making process that led up to the surge. Drawing on oral histories from most of the major participants as well as analysis from both critics and admirers, it presents a remarkably non-politicized review of the workings of the Bush Administration in making this critical decision.
Very interesting read. It’s not usually my type of genre. But it’s a topic I’m interested in. The book was well written and flowed very well. Learned a lot. Lots of interesting information in here
I will say this isn't a easy book to read when you have been living though the days since 9-11. The book has information that readers will want to research out more to better under the decision that were made and why. The authors bring the world they experienced to life. While of course there is a political views expressed and at time you can't avoid it; the author try hard to show the world what happened.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of The Lard Card.
This book gave me a lot of information I didn't have before. I love foreign policy and George W. Bush was one of my favorite president's. His decision to go to war, or rather, enter a conflict (whichever you prefer), was one I have always been "iffy" on. I felt like I understood completely that we had to stand up for ourselves as a country but wasn't sure we were going to the right places. I felt like this book really gave me a lot of information I didn't know and worded it in a way that everyone could understand as long as they had some general knowledge of the event.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is wanting to learn more and has any interest into US foreign policy.
