I'm thinking I should have read some of the other books in this series to get a good idea of the writing style. This was an ok book, just didn't wow me like I thought it would. I will try a few others in the series.
I love the Tracy Crosswhite series, and I really enjoyed the latest book. #7 in the series has Tracy experiencing what every new mom feels: do I stay home with my baby, or do I return to a job I enjoy? While on maternity leave with Daniella, and while their home is being renovated, Dan and Tracy have moved back to their hometown of Cedar Grove. While there, Dan has taken on a client who doesn't want to sell his Market Street business to the town. The town's police chief is on admin leave after his wife died in a fire, caused by arson. The old chief, now acting, has asked Tracy to step in and take a look at it.
The 2 cases divulge, and an old case from 20 years earlier resurfaces. Tracy is in danger, making her reconsider her life's choices.
Always a great story!
What is happening in Cedar Grove now? I have read a good bit of this series and like it, and this book, this book has THREE mysteries happening. That gives your brain a lot to solve and get into. Loved that! This can stand alone, but it is richer in the series, of course. I enjoyed Tracy's baby and all the mysteries in this tale. It's a good installment in the series and I hope we get more of this series too. We want to see more of Tracy's life and her husband and the baby and these cases she solves!
Thanks to Net Galley for my digital copy. This review is mine and a positive review isn't required.
I liked this book but it was a little weird to me. It focused on things that I didn't care about or it felt like it was trying to steer me in a direction but wasn't relevant to the book. Tracy Crosswhite is a police officer in the city that she actually lives in and she goes back to her hometown to update a house that they are going to use as their vacation home. When they go back to this house her husband Dan get hooked into a lawyer case and she gets hooked into a murder case. There just seems to be a lot of deceit and murder in this little town and it was wrapped up so quickly in the end. It was an ok book but dragged in areas. Not sure how I really felt about it and still don't.
I was really excited to read this book as this series had me hooked from Book 1, but it seems like it is running out of steam. The characters aren't evolving and the pace is slow. I couldn't finish the book as it seemed like a whole new writer from the original book.

A COLD TRAIL by @robertdugoni
Tracy is back in her home town, Cedar Grove with her baby on a break but the local police chief seeks her help to solve a case. Kimberly, a reporter dies in a house fire and all the needles point to Finlay, the young police chief of Cedar Grove. But on digging further it just seems to be connected to the death of her best friend Heather many years ago. As Tracy takes the case, she is sucked into the past and and is forced to look at many other instances that may be tied with the deaths. The story is also interwoven with her husband Dan's case pertaining to the development of the town.
Tracy comes back in this as a new mom, who's daughter is merely a few months old. It is an interesting plot which is a maze of many different things that have been buried as old cases. There is also her husband's case which adds more mystery to the story. At one point, it did seem a bit predictable but the climax was quite surprising and dramatic!
Overall, it was total page turner, that was engaging and enjoyable throughout.
A compelling and thrilling mystery with plenty of unexpected twists. This saga continues to deliver.
Ah. I love this series and I am always coming back for more.
So, let me ask - what happened to the energy? To the human story? To the way Tracy Crosswhite and her mysteries connects with my heart like an arrow aiming straightly at my vulnerable points?
Honestly, if this was no a "Tracy", I would say that this is a nice legal thriller with some strange psycho drama as a side motive. Yet this is a "Tracy" and I can not help to feel disappointed. The human aspect is missing (not entirely, Robert Dugoni is too good writer for that, so there are nice elements like Dan´s love proclamation in the last chapters and always-lovely-to-see duo Vic&Vera) - so why, why let such a good motive as the cold case of Heather´s murder back in Cedar Grove with all the darkness accumulated is getting such an overused motive and solution?
Ah. Love is hard. But I love this series and I WILL come back for more. As far as I am concerned, this is the best modern crime series and few weak links can not undermine its brilliance.
I love this series by Dugoni. Tracy Crosswhite and her husband Dan, return to their hometown while their house is being remodeled. Tracy is on maternity leave from her job as a detective, but an old case in her hometown has been reopened and she will help solve it.
One of my favorite thriller series and this one does not disappoint! The usual twists and turns had me hooked with every page!
Robert Dugoni's novels are so full of intrigue. The stories are so real and I fall into his novels every time. "A Cold Trail" is a novel that will keep you wanting more; which is totally find because his novel's are series!!
This was a gripping read, not letting the reader go until the very last page! I enjoyed the book, and can't wait for the next one in the series. Recommended.
"The last time homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite was in Cedar Grove, it was to see her sister’s killer put behind bars. Now she’s returned for a respite and the chance to put her life back in order for herself, her attorney husband, Dan, and their new daughter. But tragic memories soon prove impossible to escape."
I have not read the first 6 books in this series, Tracy is now on maternity leave after having a baby and returns to Cedar Grove, her home town, on a temporary basis despite the painful memories Tracy has of her sister's murder. Tracy and Dan's work crosses over and being back in Cedar Grove, it appears that everything is connected. This brings up a lot of feelings for Tracy, coping with motherhood, and still grieving the loss of her sister, it is a very hard time for her.
I enjoyed this read though did feel that not having read the previous 6 books, I was at a disadvantage - not knowing the development of the characters up to now.
Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC
*Many thanks to Rober Dugoni, Thomas & Mercer, and NetGalley for arc in exchange for my honest review.*
A good read that perfectly depicts the atmosphere of a small American town, and the characters who are forced to face the past. The mystery is interesting, unfortunately whole reading the downside was the fact that I had not read previous books.
Tracy and Dan are new parents. They have moved to Cedar Grove, their childhood hometown. While Tracy is stressed about her job, a dilemma which every new mother faces in her life, she is drawn into a ongoing police investigation. Deaths of a journalist and a former lawyer who were seen questioning about a cold case of a young woman who was murdered in 1993. And as Tracy slowly moves towards the murderer , her own life gets in danger.
It was a fast and wonderful mystery. Wonderful plot which will pump your adrenaline too. I highly recommend this series to all lovers of crime, mysteries, and police procedurals.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great book that grabbed my interest from the very beginning and kept me turning the pages. This genre is so prone to formulaic writing and common plot lines. I really enjoyed that this book doesn’t have either! I enjoyed it so much I bought the audiobook!
As I grow older, I have less tolerance for the macho BS most detectives spew, but Dugoni has created a detective I am invested in without the toxic tropes that hinder my enjoyment of this genre.
Crosswhite, now the mother of a toddler, joins forces with the interim sheriff to tackle cold cases: the death of the previous sheriff's wife and other deaths that seem to be connected.
A Cold Trail by Robert Dugoni is a compelling mystery. I found the story to be very enjoyable. I purchased the kindle and audiobook versions after reading the copy from Net Galley. I really love this series and the author's writing style. The setting of this book let me envision so many details. The characters were well developed too. I found the suspense to be perfect too.
This was a great book and I loved it from beginning to end, thank you so much for providing me a copy of this book to read. I post all of my reviews on my Goodreads profile.
A Cold Trail is book 7 in the Tracy Crosswhite series. This is my first read of the series (and by the author) and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It can definitely be read and enjoyed as a standalone, though I do want to go back and read the previous books to get the full picture of the characters, and especially Tracy's past.
New parents, Tracy and Dan, along with their daughter, move back to Cedar Grove, a place that holds painful memories and trauma for Tracy. Dan takes on a local business client concerned about losing his business. Tracy gets drawn into a murder investigation by old friend, Ray Calloway, out of retirement and covering for the police chief.
This is a well-plotted mystery that is tense, atmospheric and engaging. It was great reading about Tracy's new outlook as a mother and a detective and how she's working to reconcile the two identities.
I look forward to reading more of this series!
Thank you to Thomas and Mercer and Netgalley for the arc.
