This is the 8th installment in the Heartbreaker series. I don’t read a ton of romance books, however, anything by Jill Shalvis is an exception. Kel and Ivy are both wounded and I love how they come together and heal each other. This is a great sweet, romantic and enthralling story. Definitely recommend.
This is the eight book in the Heartbreaker Bay series. It is a great story about love and family. I really enjoy Jill Shalvis’ books and found this story heartwarming and fun. The characters are well developed and it was great to see some of the characters from previous books. The pace of the story was excellent, I loved it from page one. Overall a great read!
So this book is book 8 in the Heartbreaker Bay series and can absolutely be read as a stand alone. In it we meet Kel and Ivy. Kel is a sheriff on vacation when he meet's Ivy. Ivy owns a taco truck in CA and has worked hard to overcome her past and leave it just there, in the past. And when these 2 meet, their chemistry makes them think about something together. Even if it's short term, although both are thinking about more. Until issues from the past come up and make them wonder if it's all a lie.
This one was an ok read for me. I had a hard time getting into it at first and just connecting with the characters in general. Kel is definitely this stand up man who had a crappy parent and Ivy definitely didn't have a great childhood either. But I almost felt like they let these things shape their actions as adults instead of choosing to be better and have a better life. Some people are going to love this story-unfortunately I'm just not one of them. As usual, the writing was great. I just couldn't connect to the story.
Jill Shalvis is usually a comfort read for me: light, fluffy, sexy without too much angst or drama. Unfortunately, her usual formula of stubborn feisty heroine meets stalwart alpha hero is starting to run out of steam in Heartbreaker Bay.
First, its getting hard to remember who's who in the big crew of good-looking, bland white people. Of all the people in San Francisco, one of the most diverse cities ever, the Heartbreaker Bay gang only managed to find one token lesbian (and only gave her a barely seen girlfriend at that). Their buddy Jake is in a wheelchair but the gang blithely goes on midnight hikes without him so I guess he's not that important to them.
I knew I was losing interest in Ivy and Kel's story when the questions started coming. How did Ivy become such a talented taco chef without any training? How did she serve breakfast and lunch when Ivy was always in morning kickboxing classes? How did Ivy think she was going to buy a condo in San Francisco with only a $20K down payment (even with Caleb matching)? How did she cater a swanky event for 100 people in less than one day (can tacos be elegant)? How was Kel a sheriff when he claimed he used to ride in a car with his partner? Also how can Kel carry a weapon around San Francisco when he's only going to be there two weeks? How did Jill Shalvis write this without research?
Also, how many times could random characters pop up? Not only does Kel run into his estranged mom working in a San Francisco diner, he somehow runs into his ex-girlfriend from Idaho who cheerfully hugs him and tells Ivy hey, he's a great guy, good luck with him! as she runs off without explaining how she happened to be in San Francisco. I used to live in San Francisco and the city just isn't that small.
To be fair, Kel was a lovely, swoony stand up guy. But the poor guy picked a stubborn, prickly, rude wanna be tough girl to fall for. Ivy didn't respect Kel's conflicted feelings about his mom but expected him to respect her own conflicted feelings about her criminal brother. And as soon as Kel started to question her like a cop AND concerned boyfriend, Ivy threw him over.
According to Kel, his problem with women was him, not them. Same - I'm not certain if it's me, not them:if Jill Shalvis's formulaic but entertaining romances are starting to wear on me or if I need to leave Heartbreaker Bay to return to her tried and true Lucky Harbor and Animal Magnetism series.
2.5 stars
After years of moving from town to town, not making friends or planting roots, Ivy finally settles down in San Francisco’s Heartbreak Bay, purchasing and running the local taco truck. Despite her own code of honor, she’s always been shy of the law. When she meets cowboy and sheriff Kel O’Donnell she’s immediately attracted and wisely wary of this newcomer to her group of friends. Thrown into his company by a break in at her truck, Ivy and Kel fight their instinct to stay away from each other and instead start to rely on their unlikely friendship.
I liked Ivy’s back story of a troubled family that requires them to move always staying one step ahead of whoever may be trying to find them. Ivy keeps a wall up, even with her group of friends, so it’s not surprising she’d be especially wary of a man who asks too many questions and tries to delve to deeply into her past. Kel has his own demons with a mother who he felt abandoned he and his sister, which makes him less likely to trust than most. The two of them together seemed an unlikely pair, neither of them too willing to trust. Despite the tentative trust factor I liked them for each other and easily rooted them on.
Wrapped Up in You was about friendship and love overcoming all obstacles. The story wasn’t too deep and didn’t require my complete immersion into the plot to keep up, but it was enjoyable and totally lived up to my expectations of an easy to read romance. Something I’ve come to expect from a Jill Shalvis novel.
I received a copy of this novel through NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review and it was honest.
I love pretty much anything Jill Shalvis writes and this was no different. Full of emotion and humor and a cast of characters I've come to love. I enjoyed the cross over of two of her series but this can definitely be read as a stand alone.
Ivy Snow has spent her life surviving and moving around. Her brother is a bit of a bum and trouble maker. Usually leading that trouble to Ivy. With all that, she's remained someone with a good heart and good morals. Kel is a cop through and through. He had a incident in Sunshine Idaho where he worked that injured him and so now he's on a bit of a vacation in San Francisco hanging out and working with his cousin. Years ago he had a falling out with his mother that caused his to not trust love. Jill Shalvis is the kind of author whose books make you laugh and maybe make you cry a bit too. Most people who read her books know Kel has been a secondary character in another series of hers. Luckily for us he's moved over to this series and finally we find out more about him and he gets his HEA. He doesn't get it easily and he messes it up before it's all over. Ivy is one of those tough chicks that's a tough chick because he's always had to be one. Her heart is surrounded by a layer of titanium. Somehow Kel works his way in there. Nothing is simple for Ivy though and she loses all her dreams in one night. Jill Shalvis writes characters you will root for. Her character are fresh and fun and you want to be a part of the group. This book is the kind you read with a smile on your face and wish you could read it all over again for the first time.
I can always rely on Jill Shalvis for a quick romantic escape. Same formula as all the others in the series but it works for me
Jill Shalvis never disappoints me. Reading one of her stories never fails to bring a smile to my face and Wrapped Up in You did just that.
Ivy Snow has only lived in Cow Hollow for about a year. After wondering around for years, she finally wants to settle down somewhere. She wants all the things she has never had. So she opens her Taco truck and starts making a life for herself.
Kel O'Donnell is visiting his cousin Caleb after being injured on his job. He trust the wrong person and it almost got him killed. So he decides to visit his cousin, see his sister and his new niece before he goes back to his life in Idaho. Until he meets Ivy that is.
When Ivy and Kel meet for the first time, it was lust at first sight. The chemistry between these two was off the charts.
Things get crazy for them when there's a couple break-ins, family troubles and both of them realizing Kel wouldn't be staying and their time together would be short.
In my opinion, Ivy and Kel were a perfect fit. I felt they balanced each other out quite nicely. Though their childhoods were completely different, they both had pretty crappy ones and both have huge trust issues.
I really enjoyed this book. The writing was excellent, the characters were fantastic and there was plenty of humor, romance and heat.
I can't wait for the next story in the Heartbreaker Bay series.
Never mind willingly kickboxing four times a week, who is happy to be awake at dawn?
Thank goodness Eddie is out of the cold.
That stinks.
Yeesh, she has scary good instincts!
You have a chance with Liam now, Tae.
She put Sadie's phone in her pocket.
Be nice to your mom, Kel.
Why doesn't she just tell them all the thief is Brandon?
Er, I use Facebook.
We all need a Tina.
His essentials, ha!
Anything Spence can have, Caleb can have too.
Tough love, moron.
I kind of love Henry.
Yup, we can be bought with chocolate-chip muffins.
I'm glad she made up with her brother.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Another great book by an awesome author. Highly recommend to everyone.
Hard knocks. Soft heart. Sweet romance. Wrapped Up In You knocks on the door of the heart with all the impact of a steam roller. Shalvis dreams up the perfect heroine. Ivy is a master at make believe. Her heart has been broken constantly by people she thought she could trust. Her fresh start is built on half truths and heartache. She doesn't trust easily. With a little luck happiness could be on the horizon. If her secrets don't come back to ruin her. Kel and Ivy are sugar and spice. Hot around the edges with a candy coated center that can melt any heart.
If you’ve read any of Jill Shalvis’s other books about a community of friends centered around a neighborhood of San Francisco, you know what you’re going to get. The friends are close and all help each other. And the main characters have troubled pasts that make them doubt that they can ever have a healthy romantic relationship. With a little help from their friends, and the magic wishing fountain, this book’s main characters, Ivy and Kel, overcome their very different backgrounds and approaches to life, to find their own HEA.
I’ve read all the books in this series and enjoyed them all, but I find that I have trouble recalling any of the details of the other couples. That wasn’t a problem for this one if you don’t mind references to characters whose backstory you don’t know or don’t remember.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
First off, thanks for gifting me this ARC! I was very excited as I have loved this whole series to pieces. This one was great, but it fell a little flat for me, and what I mean by that is it almost didn’t seem to fit in with the series, Other than some of the characters being mentioned. Of course the author’s writing is top notch, and it was enjoyable.
Another great romance from Jill Shalvis! This is the eighth book in the Heartbreak Bay series. I've read the series but I don't think that you would need to to enjoy this book. The book focuses on Ivy and Kel and they're chemistry is fantastic. The story was quick and enjoyable to read. Highly recommended!
I Loved this book!!. Ivy was struggling to make ends meet while saving for a downpayment on a condo. She meets Kel who is very closed off. She has always moved around (mostly trying to stay away from her brother who brings trouble home with him. I loved how they slowly started to trust each other only to have it blow up in their faces.. Kel finally faces his issues and realizes that he has almost lost Ivy. Such a good story. Very worth reading.
After a lifetime of heartbreak, Ivy Snow is ready to run her (about to be permitted) taco truck and make some roots with her found family in San Francisco. She's finally found a place to stay and nothing's going to push her out, not even the uber-handsome Kel O'Donnell. Guy's a cop anyway and Ivy knows that's no good. It's too bad he's the cousin of one of her new-found friends and it sounds like he's going to be hanging out for awhile. And the more they hang out, the hotter he gets...
Kel has been... well. He's not working as a sheriff right now for reasons and he's got some time off from his ranch so he'll help his cousin Caleb with some work for his security business. He doesn't expect to fall in lust with a woman who cooks like a dream. But when her brother comes back into town, Kel just isn't sure that Ivy is someone he can trust.
I love most of Shalvis's work but the ending often don't work for me and this one is the same. It skips too far ahead and too much has happened that I would have liked to know how they actually got to their end point, it would have made the characters a little deeper.
Three stars

Opinions are my own
Lots and lots of laughter! I always look for that in my pleasure reading, and Jill Shalvis generally provides that. I enjoyed the quirky group of characters. This is an author that always makes me remember that family is not just blood, family is what you make it.
I loved this story I received my wish from Harper Collins yesterday , started reading and stayed up late to finish it. . No spoilers though. The main thing I can say is Ivy and Kel went through a lot to get to where they ended up. This book definitely is a page turner. Could not put it down.
The Heartbreaker Bay group is an amazing collection of people who have been lost, broken, and burned. Together they have formed a family that fights for each other, especially the one's who hate asking for help. Ivy has been a mystery for most of the series, not revealing anything really personal and stays on the outskirts of the spotlight. Kel is her best greatest fear, someone who sees her. Jill writes her characters real, flawed and beautifully human. Can be read as a standalone, but to appreciate all the side characters and all the banter, start at the very beginning, you won't regret a single page. Thank you to Avon Books for the oppurtunity to review an advanced reader copy.
