I love young adult mystery thrillers. This one had a lot of twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and I loved the mysterious aspect.
This book had me feeling so many feelings from anger, to sadness, to shock, and everything in between. I wasn't sure where the story was headed but by the end it all fit together.
I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn't. The writing wasn't good. The characters were not good. There was nothing thrilling about it, and most of the people in the book were just awful
I just wasn't that impressed. The summary sounded amazing but the execution fell flat. All the build-up for a very lackluster "twist and reveal".
Despite promising an exciting mystery, "All the Pretty Things" never delivered. When I discovered that the was set in an amusement park, I was excited, expecting a dark, nail-biting mystery. Instead I got Ivy, a rather boring protagonist walking around talking to people and along the way discovering some disturbing family secrets.
Ivy worked at her father’s amusement park and a coworker, Ethan, mysteriously dies after work one night. Ivy is unsettled by Ethan’s death and the reaction her best friend Morgan had shortly after Ethan’s death. Ivy starts an investigation and finds out the truth about Ethan’s death and Morgan’s mental health crisis
The cover was very beautiful and caught my eye, and again one of the reasons why I requested the book. Sadly the book just didn’t deliver. It felt like it was missing something. I was hoping for some crazy, exciting, thrilling plot twist, but sadly nothing.
Over was a decent book and would rate it a solid 3 stars.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in an exchange for an honest review.
Ivy Cork's father is the owner of Fabuland, the local theme park, and a local donut store chain. While Ivy is on vacation with her mom, her friend and fellow Fabuland employee Morgan finds a local kid who appears to have died because of an accident. But she has her suspicions that maybe there's more to the story and Ivy begins to investigate for her.
This started out promising, and I thought it was going to be a good mystery read. However, as things slowly moved along, that wasn't the case. It lost a lot of the suspense in the middle, and by the time we got to the twist at the end, I wasn't all that invested or interested anymore.
this book gives me chills and just all the right feelings! i really enjoyed this book and it is quite dark for me but it is so enjoyable! i love the pacing and the character dynamics very much! overall would recommend this to my friends!
I'm currently clearing out all of the books that were published in 2019-20 from my title feedback view!
This one fell really flat for me. I tried my best to get through it but it just didn’t work thanks netgalley for my free review copy.
I found this to be an enjoyable read, keeping me on my toes throughout. The storyline was written well and flowed seamlessly. I look forward to reading more by this author!
All The Pretty Things had a great premise but the exaction fell flat for me in many ways. This book had a hard time holding my attention and I forced myself to keep reading it. I wish I liked it more than I did but I just couldn’t enjoy it.
Goodreads says this book is for fans of Sadie and the Cheerleaders but it definitely did not compare to those. I wanted to love this but was disappointed.
This book did surprise me which in itself is a good thing. It did keep me on my toes and time flew by while reading it. However, my biggest problem is that some of the issues here didn’t seem to be handled well to me. I expected more closure and really just more action towards the end. All in all, the mystery was good but I’m disappointed in the ending.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley!
The cover of this book is simple but eye-catching. Who doesn't love a good amusement park ride.
The book was honestly powerful. I couldnt' stop turning the pages to see wha thappened next.
I'd definitely purchase a copy and check out other books by the author.
A heart-pounding mystery and a beautiful story about being a teenage girl, living up to your parents expectations, and growing up on your own terms, even when those around you may want you to speed up or slow down.
I am a sucker for a teenage detective and loved watching the main character race to solve this mystery. The author did a great job pacing this novel and it was incredibly hard to put down!
There was something about this book that made me really uncomfortable...and not in the way I think I was supposed to. I didn't like the way the main character had absolutely no tact when it came to talking to people about what was probably a very traumatic experience for many of them. I also don't know how I feel about the "kill off the kid with Down syndrome" trope, Makes me feel weird.
I think there were some great aspects of this book, but or wasn’t for me personally. I found it predictable and a little boring and was disappointed by the end.
The characters were mostly well developed and I did enjoy their journeys. But the plot lacked tension for me.
3 stars
This feels more like a summer time read, since it takes place during the summer time and involves an amusement park for most of the setting. I actually really enjoyed the atmosphere of Fabuland. That's where it ends, though. The synopsis made it sound so much more than what it actually is.
We have Ivy who is the daughter of the owner of Fabuland. He holds her responsible for so many things regarding the amusement park . . . she seems to take all of this in stride, and I find this rather annoying in regards to her character development. That's besides the point, though.
Then Ethan dies and her best friend Morgan finds the body. So Ivy becomes all detective trying to find out what happened to Ethan. It doesn't take her long to start piecing things together just by a few google searches. How she approaches other people, however, is rather rude and disrespectful.
I knew one character in this book was super creepy. I saw it coming from the very beginning. Then to add more on top of their creepiness, they are the primary reason for everything else going on in the story. This really tainted the story for me. I liked where it was going until it all tied it together. Then this whole thing wasn't even covered once it came to fruition. It just simply faded to black, all is well.
For a summer contemporary feel, it's a great book. For a thriller, maybe not so much.
This read was definitely an interesting ride (pun intended). It brought back memories of working at an amusement park in the town I grew up in. While I only worked there for one summer and was not related to the owners, I really felt for Ivy and some of her struggles. I also could relate to her struggle with memories and wondering what really happened in some instances. This book lightly delves into some pretty heavy topics, with an emphasis on the lightly delving into. I felt as though some of these issues came up out of nowhere and weren't fully addressed, which is one of the reasons I am giving this book three stars. Overall it is an emotional interesting read.
Thank you to Netgalley, Emily Arsenault and Delacorte Press for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.
