I was not to get interested in this book and I did not finish it. The characters and the plot did were not able to catch or keep my attention

This is a great book. Reads easily and keeps you very interested. There are so few books that deal with the aftermath of World War Ii. This one is especially interesting, because it tells the story of a Jewish survivor of the camps and a former Nazi. I was impressed with the depth of character development

Thank you Net Gallery for the second book to this series! I went back and re-read the last 5 chapters to make sure I remembered what was going on. Exciting and not disappointed in the rest of the series where the characters grew and went through so much more, traveling through different countries. The love, hate and the war took so much out of everyone. It was not disappointing in the end of the story of is it the end? I did have a problem with the first book but like I said before I was going to make it cause I just knew it was worth it! His writing is nothing but the best and so,so much research had to have gone into both books for it to believe that you were there during all this exciting, drama that affected so many lives! Be prepared to try and understand what horrible times that was before and after and what these people had to deal with.

After All: A Gathering Storm of Romance, Revenge, and Espionage in Postwar South America
by
Robert Arthur Neff

5 Stars

After All is the sequel to Neff’s extraordinary work of historical fiction Uber Alles. In my humble opinion, it’s not quite as good, but then Uber Alles was a tough act to follow. Nevertheless, I’ve still accorded this book the rare (for me) distinction of a 5-star rating for one simple reason: it led me to think about an important subject in a way I probably never would have otherwise, and that is, to me, one definition of a great book.

Neff’s books introduce us to a German general who could easily be considered a Nazi war criminal and, more importantly, to a few others who benefit greatly from his crimes. But in the end, it’s very difficult to think of General Otto von Seigler and his family as criminals. They are much more real people caught in the chaos of war, and separating crimes from mere attempts at survival becomes very difficult.

All in all, this is another magnificent story worthy of anyone’s time.

When you write a stellar book like Uber Alles, your sequel will require you to set your sights on a pretty high bar. I loved Uber Alles, even recommended to several of my friends and they too enjoyed it. Unfortunately, this one does not reach that level, it’s not a bad book, it is just not quite as awesome nor brings out the emotion that Uber did.
We continue to follow the lives of Deiter, Sophia, Otto, and Elsa, but we take some downhill turns with the storyline. I won’t list any spoilers but I wish the tale would have stayed more along the mystery and intrigue and left out some of the illicit romance.
The good: I truly enjoyed the historical facts; the explanations of the true happenings and I liked the scenes which allude to scenarios where you knew who was behind it and why they happened. Some sequels stand on their own but I advise you read Uber Alles first, it provides the background and is truly a great book, you will be missing out if you skip it.
I was given an advance copy from Old Stone Press-Independent Book Publishers through Net Galley for my honest review, this one gets 4 stars.

Sofie and Dieter find one another in post WWII Brazil. They obtain a position at a very popular hotel, the Copacabana Palace, Dieter playing the piano and Sofie accompanying him with her fabulous voice.

Sofie's father, former Wehrmacht General Otto von Siegler (and friend of Hermann Goering), also lives in Brazil in a small town where he has other relatives.

Simon Wiesenthal, survivor of Maunthausen and three other concentration camps, approaches the OSS and pleads his case that there are several Nazi oppressors who should not be allowed to get away with murder. As an example to the OSS of these people, Simon Wiesenthal proffers Otto von Siegler. The FBI identifies Sofie von Siegler and begins to tail her.

Meanwhile the OSS begins to cultivate sources in the Polish resistance. The movement in Poland has a very long history of protecting their country through spying, terrorist activities and seeking information – to be gotten in any manner necessary. They are very good at their jobs.

This book illustrates how woefully unprepared the United States was to enter the spy game. Years behind most other countries, they had a steep learning curve.

This was a well written and plotted novel. I didn't see any typos or grammatical errors. It flowed well and was easy to read and follow. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first one, but it was very good. The characters were engaging and all too human. I am still confused over my feelings about General von Siegler. I believe he took the money, but... I don't know. I am looking forward to reading more from Mr. Neff.

I want to thank NetGalley and Old Stone Press/IBPA Members' Titles for forwarding to me a copy of this interesting and enjoyable book for me to read and review.

The author does deliver on his promise, I liked the love and the spy parts of the story. The revenge part, sadly, seems to be postponed...
I liked the characters and how their paths crossed famous people's paths, rendering the story credible.
All the places and communities Sophia visits on her tour are vividly described, like they are just in front of your eyes and the difference between war-scarred Europe and South America is huge.

I really enjoyed following Dieter, Sofie and the rest after WW2. It is sort of bittersweet as they are only in South America because the General took the money from Jewish Poles. This made me think about what makes a good guy and a bad guy and after reading this I'm still none the wiser! It was also difficult to know which characters to trust, I got this wrong on more than one occasion! The book also shows more of the character's personalities, some aspects of which I didn't like, but as the author says at the end, we all have our flaws. This is a great sequel to Uber Alles. The author hints that the characters may return so that would be interesting to see!

Despite a persistent, vague sense of distance haunting throughout (so I feel we are being reported to) there is a disturbing story going on of spying, and proposed entrapment. Not sure I like characterisation of Simon Wiesenthal a hunter of nazis after the war, focused on south America... mildly anti Semitic! At least those issues are addressed! very ambiguous times of course. Yet here that distancing enables this skilled and some times repetitious, flat writer..to say some abhorrent things about living members of human race.

Educational yet riveting. Solid historical fiction with evident research and assimilation and a pleasant writing style make this an exceptionally good read. Weaving true history into a fictional tale of suspense, drama, intrigue, displacement, and other difficulties takes a special gift, which this author has.
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Old Stone Press via NetGalley.
Note: this book was originally published as Uber Alles in 2016.

Pretty interesting setting and some interesting perspective on life after WWII in South America. Curious characters with complicated back stories remain essentially human in their challenges.

With people from a number of different backgrounds come together, connected by music, relationships shift and change.
Great new, unusual view of life, give it a try.
