I was curious to read more about the transition from project management to project leadership and this book does satisfy that curiosity. It was a bit too much information for me to retain (I'm more of a checklist, bullet point reader), however the encouragement to be authentic, the reminder that the world is changing, and other keys is helpful. Ms. Madsen also brings to light just how important a leader is -- and I don't think many appreciate good leaders. There were mistakes outlined that I clearly fell into and having them brought up makes it easier for me to not repeat them. Overall, I appreciated the information laid out in The Power of Project Leadership, and at this point, makes me realize that I'm not ready to be a leader, but is something that I can strive towards in the near future.
There's a lot of good information in this guide on how to be a leader rather than just a project manager, and I plan to implement quite a bit of this in my work. Very insightful advice on how to communicate with and motivate not only team members, but project stakeholders as well. I'd like to give this book to everyone in a management role!
This book would be very useful for someone in a project management role that wants to improve their leadership skills. It doesn't try to give you a specific approach or framework, but instead a shift in mindset to become a leader.
This book offers updated introspective on project managers. It was written as a teaching tool to help those who want to become better at their jobs. It is chock full f detailed information, charts and great advice. It also has links for templates and other information that can be adapted to your own use.
