Interesting story just wasn’t for me but the writing was good. Ultimately I decided to give it a 3 star because it fell just in the middle of the road for me.

It was an enjoyable retelling of sleeping beauty.
But it was a bit too short for my taste, not too much room to get character development and romance.
But it was sort of cute and enjoyable even though. I liked Prince Thomas and Lucy best, Prince Phillip was interesting but Princess Aurora felt a bit annoying and self-scentered.

I wish I could've enjoyed this book more, but I really didn't. But many people seem to have liked it so I could simply be a minority in this.

This was a nice take on the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty.

Although the characters lacked depth, this was a nice easy read where you certainly did not need to strain the brain.

Overall quite enjoyable light entertainment.

‘Slumber’ by Becky Bird is a fairytale retelling with a wildly intriguing premise. I loved the way it was a new take on such a beloved classic. It jumped around a bit, which was slightly disorienting, but overall this was a fun read and I quite enjoyed it.

I found this to be a fun, light-hearted retelling of Sleeping Beauty. It kind of had Ever After/Ella Enchanted (the movies) vibes. It was a funny story and I think the author should have gone with that angle and made it a little more tongue-in-cheek. Thomas and Lucy are typical enemies-to-lovers, and Jack, Lucy's best friend, is the typical third wheel/comedic relief. This book wasn't anything new, but it was still a fun and quick read.

I appreciated this fun take on the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, which is one we really don't see retold all that often. I'm also really happy that this is a story I could recommend to young teens without feeling it may be too far advanced for their maturity level as many books marketed as YA tend to be lately.

I have al.ways been such a sucker for retellings especially Sleeping Beauty retellings as it is my fave disney story. This one was fantastic! It did not leave me wanting at all. It had enough of the orginal story to make it recognizable and enough new elements to keep me on my toes and help me see a new story to love. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys retellings especially of Sleeping Beauty. I can';t wait to read more from this author and will be recommending this to my friends.

This book was a fun quick read. I will, read any and all retelling stories and while this wasn't my favorite I did enjoy it. I loved Lucy as a character because she was so strong and independent. She really doesn't care what anyone thinks. Thomas was annoying but he grew on me which is what he was supposed to do which I think Becky Bird did really well. The plot was easy to follow and easy enough to guess given the description but it was a fun read nonetheless. I look forward to reading Becky Birds other work.

It felt very... I don’t know, I’ve read better retellings. It was an enjoyable read though. I read it in one sitting, though I did skim some of it

Unfortunately I don't feel like I have a lot to say about this. I was super excited about a Sleeping Beauty retelling because it was one of my favourite Disney films as a child but this is just a bit bland.
The pacing is really slow and I found myself not really caring and waiting for something to happen.
I will say the banter between the two main characters did make me laugh at times and I think Becky Bird did a good job creating fun and relatively believable characters.
Overall this was very predictable and nothing really new or interesting.

*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review*

I love fairy tale retellings and could not wait to read this! Not often a Sleeping Beauty variant comes along and it was nice for a change to have a take on it from a different view i.e. not Prince Philip and Aurora.

The story centers around Prince Thomas a spoiled self centred prince and Lucy an runaway orphan. Together they work on the Prince’s quest to find and wake the princess with a kiss.
Without giving anything away they is the usual trials and tribulations on the way.

It’s a lovely fun quick read but slightly offputting was the way Aurora was written a bit too shallow and vapid.

What a nice find. This was the first book I've read from this author and I really enjoyed it. The story was different from anything I've read recently and really captured my attention. It was so well written and the characters were fantastic.

This is a fun, easy read that is a variation on the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. There are fun characters, royal characters (who are mostly crappy people), evil priests, and wonderful people who are also peasants.

Slumber is a re-telling of Sleeping Beauty but with a twist. I enjoyed meeting Lucy- the strong and kick butt female lead, and going through all the adventures with her and her companions.

I do feel the story was a bit lacking- just missing some “meat on its bones” and if there would have been a bit more detailed back stories and building on certain scenes, it would have brought the story to life even more.

It took me four and a half months to finish this book after I got it free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Shallow characters, unrealistic development, unfleshed plot. The closest to a retelling/reimagining you get is a princess who was asleep and the use of the names Philip and Aurora. A let down for me unfortunately, I tried so hard to like it!

Overall I did enjoy reading this book. It kept me interested enough to finish. That being said there are some big issues for me. One. The characters don't have much depth and I found myself really not caring much what happened to them. Two. Switching the point of view provided opportunity to show more of the story line, but the way in which it was done was extremely confusing. I found myself having to reread sections a few times to understand who's point of view I was reading. Third. It could have used another once over for grammar, spelling, etc. As I said, overall I did enjoy the story. Unfortunately for me it just felt unfinished and unpolished.

Prince Thomas cannot take the throne without a queen. Though the problem isn't his lack of suitors but his refusal to marry a princess that is less than perfect. The cardinal presents him with an opportunity: a quest to find the most beautiful princess in the land who has been in slumber for a century. But, unbeknown to the prince, the cardinal plans to kill him as soon as the prince embarks on his quest, and take the throne for himself. Luckily, Prince Thomas's path crosses with Lucy, a spirited orphan runaway, who saves his life and convinces the prince to continue the quest. When they eventually find Princess Aurora, they also find another contender – Prince Philip – vying for the princess's heart. Despite their mutual disdain for each other, Lucy agrees to assist the prince, and Thomas accepts her help to keep him alive long enough to beat out his competition and return to rule his kingdom alongside his perfect bride. They just don't count on falling for each other in the process.
This was an ok read. I didn’t realize it was trying to be a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, but that didn’t really make any difference. The biggest thing was that it was really targeted towards a much younger audience, so it wasn’t really for me.
