Quirky, kinda creepy, funny at times.... I should have counted how many times I said "Yep, these are Florida people!" I don't know if I'd read something like this again, but I feel that is more a reflection of my tastes than a reflection of the book....there is certainly an audience for this book or others in a similar vein.

The Beach House is a rundown motel in Delray Beach Florida where quite a unique set of inhabitants have come together. From the former and now broke tennis coach to a young forensic examiner at the local morgue, from a paparazzi fotographer to the always making trouble couple, from a Rod Steward double to an secretive business woman - you‘ll find everything life has to offer, especially when it comes to unfulfilled dreams. This strange and bizarre assortment of characters seems not to have much in common, but when their little island of happiness is threatened, they need to stand side by side to save this precious save haven.

I fell immediately for James Aylott‘s residents of The Beach House. They all had their high hopes and also seen the downs of life but nevertheless, they are loveable - maybe except for Gabriel and Bessie Garlech from apartment # 5 - and you simply have to feel pity for what is going to happen to them. Yet, not only the characters have an immediate appeal, it is much more the author‘s style of writing that got me immediately. He masterly puts his story into words and thus makes you laugh out loud more than once.

A wonderful read that is satirical and funny as well as bittersweet at the same time. The individual stories are smoothy linked to add up to a story even though I found the presentation of their backstories much more interesting and entertaining than the actual plot. I also loved the news stories at the beginning of each chapter which highlighted that Florida creates news that surely surpass any imagination.

Creepy stories of apartment living in Central Florida. Not for me. Unfortunately I only made it halfway through the book. Thank you for the opportunity from Net Galley.

A quirky and interesting novel. The characters are fun and true to life for Florida. The story is also true Florida.

Great read. The author wrote a story that was interesting and moved at a pace that kept me engaged. The characters were easy to invest in.

I feel like this is a perfect representation of what people think of Florida. A once popular tourist hotel is now dying and is filled with those running from something, usually a past. It’s part short stories, part love story, part mystery all somehow not adding up to one hundred percent. I enjoyed the dark humor but was confused at what the book was trying to be.

Lovely feel good story. It was well written and flowed well. Easy to read and hard to put down. Perfect on these summer nights

As I was expecting something different from this book, maybe my review is jaded. My expectation was more along the lines of Carl Hiaasen's writing, which can be dark humor, with a bit more emphasis on the humor than this book had. Instead, I found it dark and depressing, with not much humor thrown in to lighten it. I thought about just putting it aside a few times, but in the end picked it back up to see how it ended. I don't think it was worth it. The writing style is engaging, but there really isn't much of a plot. Throughout, I felt like I was peeking into people's lives, but not in a good way. I felt like I was staring at someone's train wreck of a life.

It took me a while to get into this book but once I got into the flow I quite enjoyed it.

Each chapter to start with focused on one apartment in the block of flats known as Beach House, and as the book develops we are able to see how these characters interacted with each other and then pulled together to prevent the sale of the block.

All of the characters were larger than life and all had a slightly dark secret or past. They seemed larger than life and yet totally believable.

Each chapter started with a mad news story about a 'character' from Florida which set the scene for the oddities who lived at Beach House.

A fun read about an eccentric community.

Tales from The Beach House is a unique book with some funny spots. This is
not even close to Carl Haissen's writing, the only similarity being Florida with some humor. I would not go out and buy this book, it didn't win me over.

It was okay. Written in a style that takes you a bit to get use to. Had some funny moments. Nothing earth shattering entertaining but an okay book.
