At the time I requested this book I was very interested in it. Obviously, it has been a few years since I requested this and unfortunately it doesn't match my current reading tastes. I apologize that I didn't read it and thank you for the kindness you showed in offering it to me.
Marie Lu is one of my top five authors and I can't describe my excitement when I saw she was coming out with another title in the Legend series. I wanted to see June and Day finally get their happy ever after with each other in whatever form that needed to take. I also loved seeing how society had changed with everything that had happened with the Republic in the last books and learn more about Antarctica and their society. I also loved all the focus on Eden and his journey since he was an important part of the first three books, but not featured as much. Such a fantastic book and I can't recommend it more to readers who loved the other books in the series.
I really liked the book ! The main character was liakable and I loved the plot ,I wish it was longer tho ,to enjoy it a little bit more
Rebel takes place 10 years after the events of Legend, Prodigy, and Champion. Daniel (from the first books) is now only concerned with keeping his younger brother, Eden, safe. Eden on the other hand feels overshadowed by his brother, often only being known as Daniel's little brother. Together they struggle to accept themselves as they get drawn into Ross City's dark side. Books that are a spin-off of a popular series are always difficult because readers have already become so connected to the original cast. Because of that, the scenes with David and June were the most enjoyable and the scenes with Eden were a bit of a letdown. Overall, I found the book fast-paced and suspenseful with a satisfying ending.
A rare necessary addition to a previously completed series. The plot was intriguing and I loved that June and Day got closure, but I didn't come to care for Eden and Pressa as much as I was probably meant to.
If you are a middle school teacher, as I am, than you are all too familiar with the Legend series by Ms. Marie Lu.
Well, FINALLY, we have been given Eden’s story!
FINALLY, we get to know what happened to June and Day after all.
This is not just a novella to the series, this is a full length addition to the trilogy– now quartet!
And as always, Lu doesn’t disappoint with assigning the book an appropriate name in characterizing her main subjects. Eden most definitely falls under the category of ‘Rebel’.
I loved this one. And I will continue to suggest this series to my emerging ya genre readers in my classroom.
So fantastic!
5 out of 5!

In all honesty, I wish this had not been written. The Legend trilogy holds so much meaning and so many feelings for so many readers. Coming back to this world 6 years later was too little, too late. Many of those original readers who love this series so much have found a whole slew of new interests and today's readers have so many other new books to read instead. I'm not sure who this was written for. Unfortunately, I did not finish this title and will not be writing a formal review.
I was thrilled to be back in the world of Legend! As a fan of the original series, It was a refreshing breath to be able to explore Day's younger brother's life after the events of Champion. I can truthfully say it is the perfect closing to this brilliant story! 4/5 stars!
Students LOVE Marie Lu, especially the reluctant readers (and among those especially the boys) so we always get anything with her name on it. This was not my favorite from her, but I do think they will love it.
I didn’t expect another book in this series but I am so happy it was written. I loved Legend. This story takes us back to a familiar place and gives us a whole new experience. It was just as good as the original trilogy. I have already purchased it for the library.
I haven't read the earlier volumes, but I could easily slip into the story. Eden is a typical nerdy character who's rebelling for two reasons: to be different than his brother and to show off for a girl. He''s working on a racing rig that's either going to win big or get him killed. The sample was too short for me to get a good feel for Daniel, but the characters seemed much more complex and interesting than other Lu books I've read.
It was nice to return to these characters and to explore the societal structure of Ross City. Book was a little slow going in the middle. But, I don't care. I loved these characters so much in Legend and was happy to reunite with them.
The return to the Legend series was like coming back home - not only has Marie Lu’s writing become more expressive and illustrative since we last left off on the series, but the storytelling has evolved, which fits perfectly with the more mature nature of the story as our characters have grown as well. It was riveting to read about all the familiar faces once more, but in a setting where the stakes are higher and their views of life have grown with them. I thoroughly enjoyed this long-awaited comeback.
I'm currently reading the full book, but I think this sampler is enough to make people want to read the whole book. It isn't the most compelling of Lu's works, but it's also not a bad book.
First line: If you asked me to tell you about myself, I’d say first that I like to understand things.
Summary: Eden Wing is the younger brother of Daniel, once called Day, the hero of the Republic of America. He has lived in his brother’s shadow for years despite his own achievements. When he enters an underground drone race he gets pulled into the web of one of the most notorious gangsters in Antarctica. When Daniel discovers that his brother is spending time with a criminal that he has been hunting for years he becomes worried that he cannot protect his brother from the darker side of humanity.
My Thoughts: I enjoyed this. I liked to see what happened after the end of the original trilogy. It was a sad ending but it left it open which was nice. But according to another reviewer I saw it was almost unnecessary. I love the way Lu incorporates a lot of technology in her stories. I wouldn’t be surprised if we are not too far from this future described here. I kept getting the storylines confused with the Wildcard duology since they are similar. I would definitely recommend to anyone who read the original three books to pick this one up.
FYI: This is book 4 in the Legend series.
LOVED being back in this world with these characters!! I didn't even know I wanted/needed this story to close out the Legend trilogy, but after reading it realize I really did. I'm so glad Lu came back to visit this world and give the closure to these characters that they deserved.
An exceptional series. The end of Champion was heartbreaking and Rebel is a satisfying continuation of the story.
I was a little late to the party when it came to reading the Legend series by Marie Lu, but I finally read all of the books last year, and really enjoyed the story. I thought the series had ended with Champion, the third book in the series, so imagine my surprise when I discovered that there would be a fourth book, named Rebel, set to release in 2019!
Rebel is an interesting addition to this already successful series. It features a lot of the characters that you know and love from the previous book, give or take a few, and a few new interesting characters as well. The story is told by alternating viewpoints between Daniel, (yes, that Daniel from the original books), and his brother, Eden. This was interesting because we got to know Eden a bit from the previous books, and it was interesting to see inside his mind. We also get to see a lot of June as well, and I loved getting to see all that she had been up to since the previous story.
I was super curious to know how the storyline would go for this book, especially considering the way Champion left off at the end. The story felt brand new, with very few references to the original storyline, so that was interesting. I don’t know if there is going to be more books after this one or not, but the end of this book wraps up nicely, and it feels like we’re getting some of the closure that we didn’t get with Champion. I am very happy with the ending of this book.
Overall; Rebel was definitely and interesting addition to the Legend series, and I am really glad that I chose to read the book. Was it a necessary addition, not really, but it was nice to fall back into the world that Marie Lu created, and to get to see some of our favorite characters again, after such a long time away. I definitely enjoyed it, and if you decide to read the book, then I hope you do as well!
Happy Reading!
This sample of the book switches between Eden, the main character and Daniel his older brother, one of the main characters of the earlier books. I really enjoyed the preview of this book because it expands the Antarctic city and its reward/punishment game like system that was hinted in the third book of the trilogy. It seems that Daniel and June both are still talking to each other as well. If you were a fan of the Legend trilogy then this is a must read.
Oh, little Eden, how you've grown...
When we saw Eden in the Legend series, he was a little guy and played a small part in the story. Here, he is the focus. And he's fantastic!
For the Legend fans, this book has plenty of Day and June, but they do not take the focus off Eden - it's still undeniably his book.
Eden is a complex character, and you feel for him, trying to find his way out of his brother's shadow. He is clever, though, and navigates his way through mistakes and danger, and you just have to root for him.
This was a great addition/ending to the Legend series.
