This was such a cute book! I absolutely loved it! The story moved along well without any big gaps or slow moving sections. I really liked the characters, I thought they were well fleshed out and were believable as a couple.

I’ll be on vacay (at my house – don’t think you can rob me without me murdering you) until after Christmas so Imma knock another review out today and make me feel like I accomplished something this year by posting 200 reviews.

Been There, Married That is the type of book you pick up when you just want a vacation from your own problems. It’s the story of what happens when Agnes’ megahit Hollywood producer husband Trevor decides to divorce her, believing the grass is sure to be greener on the other side. What follows is a completely over-the-top tale that could easily be found in Webster’s next to the definition of . . . .

ESCAPISM

When I read this (a while ago, because you know I suck at timely reviews) I thought this would be a great poolside selection. Alice NEVER being serious (I mean EVER - even when in mediation discussing the potential of losing custody of her children) irritated the shit out of me, but I still stand by that opinion. Now that the holidays are quickly approaching, this might be a great escape from the stresses of the season as well. Got a house full of Griswalds? Run a bubble bath and soak in with Agnes’ antics.

Agnes is married to Hollywood royalty, but is struggling to find herself. After her husband locks her out of her house and wants a divorce, Agnes has to fight tooth and nail for custody of their daughter with help from her criminal sister, Fin, and playboy dad.

Similar to the characters in this book, the book itself is a bit disorganized and hard to follow. Parts were funny, and I loved Fin, but most of it felt hastily written and disjointed. But maybe that is what Hollywood is like?

I was unable to finish reading this book. It was one of those books where there was just TMI from the get go. The description of the book makes it seem as though we are going to witness a perfect marriage go up in flames but we don't witness the perfect marriage. It is immediately lit and we watch the crazy unfold. I feel like there was a level of foul language, gross descriptions of body parts and functions, and REALLY odd situations that was just WAY too much for me. Had it been one of them and not ALL three I might have not had such a hard time with it.

I feel bad not finishing a book so I may have to try again but at the same time, I dislike putting time into a book I won't enjoy. Bottom line, this wasn't for me. I enjoyed The Starter Wife tv show, didn't ever read the book but I only found out it was the same author after the fact.

3.5 Stars
I tried to love it but I could only like this one. The blurb sounded wonderful but the execution was actually somewhat all over the place. I may go back to it with a different perspective later but it just wasn't for me. I couldn't connect with any of the characters and the attitudes of them while quite accurate were just over the top.

If I hadn’t been reading Been There, Married That as an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review, I would not have bothered finishing this book. This book is utterly pointless and stupid, shallow and insipid. It takes every cliché you can possibly think of for famous people, semi-famous people or the Kardashians and crams it into a story about Agnes, a moderately successful author, and her more famous director husband Trevor living in Hollywood (and their own delusions) as they navigate their way through getting separated and divorce. If this is supposed to be a satire that makes you laugh about how disconnected famous people are with reality, it takes it so far that it’s just annoying and insufferable. I could care less about any of the characters in this book, including the daughter in the middle of the custody battle, and would have been perfectly happy if the book had ended with the characters panhandling in Siberia to put food in their mouths.

This is a spectacularly bad book for so many reasons. DNF, but I made it 40 percent through and feel like I should get a trophy for that.

In really good novels, while I’m reading, I forget that there is an author who sat at her desk day after day after day constructing the book because I’m so lost in the story. The writing in this novel very noticeably calls attention to itself. There are good lines, but I can envision the author at her desk, smiling at her own cleverness.

Agnes is a writer who married a Hollywood big shot. One day she comes home to her palatial mansion to find she’s been locked out. Is divorce next?

I don’t care because Trevor is a horrible man. If your criteria for a good husband is that he’s good looking, rich, and successful, yes, Trevor’s your guy. If what you care about in a husband is that he’s a good human who treats you well, he’s a self-absorbed dick. I care much more about the latter, so of course she shouldn’t get back with him. Even if he didn’t cheat, he LOCKED HER OUT OF THE HOUSE INSTEAD OF HAVING A CONVERSATION LIKE AN ADULT HUMAN BEING.

He sends her to rehab because she eats too many almonds. She actually goes. WTF? Only for a day, but then he can say she’s been to rehab, which of course implies a drug/alcohol problem. I had to stop there because It was all too stupid for words.

This one wasn’t for me. I felt the author was trying to hard to be funny and some was just plain unrealistic. Thank you netgalley and publisher for this arc in exchange of an honest review.

Thank you St Martins Press for a copy of this ARC but I could not finish it. It is poorly written and all over the place. The writing is really hard to follow along.

Read through 15% before giving up. The writing is a bit all over the place. I appreciate witty remarks but there was so much going on that it was really hard to follow along and not be overwhelemd in confusion. Is she talking in her head or are we reading about what’s happening. Too much going on for me. Sounded like a fun book but I think the writing was trying too hard and wasn’t edited enough to make it readable.

I did not finish this book. I only made it through two chapters. The author is trying too hard to be funny. It's overkill and very unrealistic. And, the inner monologue of Agnes is irritating and confusing. It pulls the reader out of the story.

Hilariously funny. I laughed so hard I cried. Fantastic!

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

Agnes is a writer, her soon to be ex husband is a producer. This book covers Hollywood life and a Hollywood divorce and all that goes with it. It’s full of humor and exploits.

I was hoping that this was going to be a fun read....but it was more of a hot mess of a read. The characters were so over the top I couldn't take the book seriously. There are some funny parts and a lot of snark in it which did make me chuckle but for the most part, I felt like this book was a little bipolar!

Agnes is dealt a pretty poor hand in the Marriage game, but is able to bluff and blunder her way through the ashes to happiness and success. She is so relatable and real that it's like spending time with a girlfriend who was blindsided by a vindictive, wandering husband. The best part is that she manages to not only find peace, she finds herself.

The humor in this book was great, but I just couldn’t connect with any of the characters. It’s all about Hollywood drama and a failed marriage for Agnes. I wanted Agnes to stand up for herself more. The second half of the book made me understand more of the drama.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I tried really hard to get into this book, but I had to put it down about 30% of the way in. I felt like that was giving it enough of a chance before deciding it's really not the book for me. And I say that as someone who almost never stops a book in the middle of it. The only way I can really describe this book is as "extra." It's A LOT and I found it exhausting to read. It felt like that friend who is just trying so hard and won't stop talking and who you just want to look at and say, "Shhh. Take a breath and stop talking for a minute."

Not only was the prose nonstop ridiculousness, but the characters felt like caricatures and pretty far-fetched. The story also felt confusing and I had a hard time figuring out what was happening part of the time. I'm not easily offended at all, but some of the writing felt so out of touch and made me cringe. Yikes.

Clearly, Gigi Levangie has a lot of fans and I absolutely hate disparaging a book just because it's not for me. Not every book is for every person and just because I didn't like it, doesn't mean someone else won't. The cover of this book is adorable and I had such high hopes for it, but unfortunately, it wasn't at all the book for me.

When I first read the blurb for this book, it sounded like the perfect light and funny read. While this book did have plenty of good one liners that were indeed funny, the story was lacking. It seemed to jump from one scene to the next without any good transitions and the story itself just fell flat for me.
This story focused on Agnes. A wife, mother and woman in her 40's dealing with some big transitions, all while living the Hollywood life. Her husband Trevor wants a divorce and he will fight to win. But that's all it is for him. To win. He doesn't really understand the consequences of winning and Agnes is a one woman show that is full of some great one-liners, but also genuinely cares what happens to her daughter and to her family.
Been There, Married That had the potential to be more funny if it flowed better and didn't drop so many "famous" names. That honestly drew me out of the story and didn't have the effect that I believe they wanted. The one liners were good, but I just wanted more. If the transitions between each scene were more cohesive this story could've been at least a star higher.
Overall, this book was not for me. I fell asleep a few times while reading it and found myself skimming it because it didn't hold my attention. It had potential, but fell flat.
