DNF at 30%. This is a weird book. It’s confusing, it’s hard to get into. It’s just... a lot. I can’t force myself to keep going.

On the one hand, I couldn't stop reading this. On the other hand, I kinda wanted to at times--it had a very dismissive attitude of some things that i've come to appreciate books taking seriously (#metoo especially, but not exclusively.). It wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't a great book. Highly highly readable, very fast read, it's probably a good beach read or for any time you want something light and (trying to be) silly.

I couldn't really connect to the story, though I did love the snark and the wit. I do have quite a few patrons that I think would love this though. I couldn't really connect with the characters though I did like Grazer's writing style.

Been There, Married That is a book about the trials of being married to a Hollywood producer by Gigi Levangie. Or is it a warning? Before I get started, let me say here, I'm old. There's lots of Hollywood speak and slang and hashtagging going on in the beginning of this book, at times I had no idea what the author was trying to convey. I'm also a bit stubborn, I don't think I should have to use urban dictionary as a translator. Agnes is married to Trevor with a teenage daughter. This is basically the story of her divorce. It's mildly funny is some spots. I liked a few of the characters, not so much the rest of the cast. The dialog was easier to read in the last third of the book, but like I said, if you're old like me, you'll need that urban dictionary for the beginning. Been There, Married That is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

3 for neutral. I was a bit disappointed, because I truly thought this would be a fun read I could use to break me from my thrills and chills, but I just couldn’t get engaged in it. I felt that it was just sort of put together in a way that didn’t flow. Will update if able to get into later and enjoy,

Agnes a writer, mom and married to a hot shot Hollywood producer. When she returns from a book tour and discovers the gate code has been changed she is confused. Her husband informs her that he needs to find his happy. So starts a choppy mess filled with too many one-liners that distracted from the characters and story.

Been There, Married That had me laughing out loud, it was hysterical. This story is a lighthearted and funny however I had a little trouble following along in some parts. This is my first book I have read by Gigi Levangie Grazer but will not be my last. I would recommend this book.

I received an advance copy from NetGalley for my honest opinion.

4 stars!

It took me a little bit to get into this book, the authors writing is a bit different. But once I did, it sucked me in. This book was hilarious, serious at times and just a good overall read.

I really enjoyed how the author brought real life into this book. Divorce is hard and while keeping the seriousness of it at the forefront, she added some humor to liven it up. And of course this wasn’t your stereotypical divorce because it was Hollywood, but the same underlying rules still apply. And I love the way Agnes handled everything Trevor threw at her. She was strong and kept her head held high while being humiliated in the process. #goagnes

I think if you like romance & humor this is the book for you! And if you’ve ever been through a divorce, it might help to understand all the emotions of Agnes.

Been There, Married That is quite the ride. Part romance, part female empowerment, big part reality housewife-ish, this novel is all over the place. Meet Agnes, mother of Pep and current wife to Trevor, a Hollywood star that is downright insane. Agnes has lost her own identity over the last several years (despite writing a novel), and her life is turned totally upside down (not sure it was ever actually right side up) when Trevor announces he wants a divorce. Suddenly, Agnes is sharing her 14 bathroom mansion with her estranged husband, her recently released from jail sister, and the many hired help the family has. From hosting parties that turn into wrestling matches, stolen pianos, rehab for almond addictions and infidelity; Been There, Married That packs it all in.

Admittedly, I had a challenging time the first half of the book. The characters were difficult to relate to, mostly because they lacked likable characteristics and there are so many of them. However, after the second half I found that I was eager to see what happened and actually rooting for Agnes to figure her life out! Despite terrible circumstances and dramatic events, there was obvious humor and comic relief. I’m not sure how I feel about Agnes in the end, but I’m glad to have been along for her journey and am thankful I saw it to the end.

A sincere thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really wanted to love this, and had expectations I was going to.
Sadly, there were so many references to LA/Hollywood Culture and players that I felt lost most of the time and gave up. The writing didn't flow. And from the start, you were asked to imagine some very implausible situations.
I thought I knew my reality shows/Hollywood Culture, but this made me feel I was in a foreign land altogether.

Agnes has been married to a Hollywood producer for years, but unlike other Hollywood wives, she actually has a career as an author. Without realizing it, she and her husband Trevor have been growing apart. Before Agnes knows what has hit, her husband puts her in rehab for no reason and sets her up as he begins divorce proceedings.

A series of crazy events lead Agnes, her ex-con sister Fin, her daughter Pep, her hired help (AKA the triplets), and others on a crazy ride. The question is, will Agnes come out of divorce, Hollywood style, sand and in one piece!

I was looking for a FUN read. Based on the description, I thought this would fit the bill. It did not. Agnes Murphy Nash is one of the least developed, thought out protagonists I have read in some time. One dimensional, ANNOYING, and just argh. I finished hoping there was a light at the end of the tunnel. There was not just annoyance with myself for not DNFing this book!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

I’m not sure what I just read. I always try to be positive in my reviews but sometimes, not often, a book warrants the kind of review that wards other readers off.

To the author. I’m sorry. But what were you thinking!?

Honestly, a book has never confused me this much before. The way it is written was like someone on a psychedelic drug phase. Actually that might be giving the drug addicts a bad name.

This was beyond Alice in Wonderland psychedelic. I have never read a book that was written this way. The prose and hows it’s pieced together didn’t even complete a cognitive thought. This is worse than having to listen to a teenager rant and rave while using their slang.

I have no other words to offer but this.

STAY AWAY!

I don’t typically read this genre of books and this book reminded me why I don’t gravitate to it. I really don’t care about the world of the rich and the privileged. The characters in this book didn’t keep my attention at all. The main character made me smile a few times bc she is quite salty and I loved bits of her inner dialogue, and her outer dialogue too. Her sister was a favorite too. The problem for me was the story was all over the place. I kept getting pulled out of the story bc it jumped around and I’d have to spend time figuring out where I was in the story. It didn’t flow well for me and the majority of the characters were predictable and caricatures, not a whole lot of depth.

My Review
Smart, snarky humor blends with real life trauma in this Hollywood wives adaptation!

Agnes Murphy Nash thought she was living the dream; Hollywood producer husband, mansion in the hills, and socialite friends, until it all came crashing down with just one word- divorce.

Suddenly, she’s persona non grata at the swanky restaurants she’d practically made famous. The friends have disappeared into the woodwork, her credit cards have been canceled, the mansion is for sale. But worst of all, her ex is suing her for full custody of their beautiful child.

This means war.

It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a book so much. Agnes has plenty of reasons to curl up with a bottle of gin and the pharmaceutical of the day, but instead she’s a fighter and there is no way her no-good philandering husband (who she’d vowed to love forever) was going to win the battle.

Over her dead body.

Favorite Lines
Nothing bad can happen if you wear a scarf; it’s like garlic to vampires.

The day was hot and dry, the city in a drought that would never end, much like my divorce.

I give Been There, Married That 5+ lovely kisses- I’ll be looking for more of this writer’s work!

I am really sorry to have a negative review because I can only imagine how difficult it is to write a novel. However, Been There, Married That was a book that was very difficult to finish. The plot of the book follows Agnes and Trevor, a famous and rich Hollywood couple. It is assumed they were once happy, but now are going through a divorce and experiencing all the drama that comes with a break up that occurs in the spotlight. The problem with the book is that it wasn't funny or interesting. It seemed scattered and out there, and some of the language was simply crass. Sorry!!

Thank you, NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.

Boy it is hard to read about successful people being petty, spiteful, and stupid. I gave the book a few chapters when I said tv isn’t this bad. A waste of time.
