Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Fast page from the start , will pull you in to the story from the very start as well , and won't let go until the very end .

A great story that has me gripped right to the end. Cleverly written so that I was able to foretell some of the disclosures which made it even more enjoyable. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

With thanks to the publishers and netgalley for the copy of this book in exchange for a review.

This was a very fast paced easy to read, thriller which I gobbled up in two sittings (only because I had to sleep). A few good twists and turns and some excellent writing. I really felt Emma's despair and her descent into chaos. I think my favourite line was Martin to Jade when he asks her if she realises she is an adult. It summed up her character perfectly, she always needed someone to be "in charge" of her.

I'm off to look up the other books in the series now.

The Night Caller by J.M. Hewitt is the first of a series focused on Detective Carrie Flynn, who has spent the past 20 years searching for her little sister who was kidnapped.

Quick and easy read, ideal thriller to keep in your beach bag! Lots of scope for future development of the main characters and their backstory, a great start to a series.

My latest commute listen and I’ve enjoyed it. I have to admit straight up, I found ‘The Pusher’ lame for majority of the story up until the last few chapters. I could see where the author was taking the characters though. And I enjoyed them. Especially enjoyed the old biddy in the window 😍 who had her own story.

Jordan was an interesting character and I enjoyed him. I felt sorry for Emma in the end, and Martin? Well, I was completely wrong about him 😂 I liked where I was taking him better 😉

And single moms everywhere, you’re doing the best you can 🙏🌟🌟

Good but not awesome start to the series but looking forward to the next from this author.

A good introduction to the series and I'm interested in getting to know Carrie more in future books. I found this one compelling and gripping and an interesting premise in the Pusher bei g pushed himself, creating a vacancy for the new one.

I have to say I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading others.
It wasn't hard to figure out who was doing what but it didn't detract from the story as you follow the police and the characters to the final conclusion.

A good crime novel set in Manchester. The investigation is led by Detective Carrie Flynn. She herself has a troubles past . Her sister went missing many years ago.
The drama centres around the Pusher. Someone who is pushing people into the Manchester canals to there death.
The start to a brilliant series of book.

A canal in Manchester has been the scene of the deaths of 12 males who have been pushed to their deaths over the last six years. The latest victim seems to be Jordan who’s scarf is found in the canal DS Carrie Flynn and her partner DC Paul Harper are on the case of “The Pusher”.

A compelling addictive read that will keep you hooked until the very end and thirsty for more !!!!

Thank you to NetGalley Bookouture and JM Hewitt for the arc of The Night Caller my review is honest and unbiased.

I hate when this happens but I just could not get into this book. The crimes-a long history of someone pushing gay men into a canal until he gets pushed into a canal and then the new "pusher" starts pushing violent people into the canal. The characters- an underdeveloped police who became a cop because her sister was abducted. been done and overdone. Kept going and go no real surprises. Some "Scandalous" reveals that just didn't make the pay off worth it instead. I did manage to finish, so that is something.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.

This book introduces the reader to Detective Carrie Flynn, a woman struggling to solve a mysterious case and to understand her past. While the plot is quite intriguing, the switching of perspectives can get confusing. There is less about Carrie and more about those impacted by the crimes she is trying to solve. The "Pusher" has been assaulting men and pushing them into the canal for years now., yet nobody has witnessed the culprit or the crime. For a while, the crimes followed a clear pattern; victims were young gay men who were out at night near the canal. The "Pusher" perpetrates these hate crimes with ease, until one day someone pushes him into the waters and takes his place. Except, now the victimology changes. Victims of the new "Pusher" all share in common a history of violent/bad behavior. It's as if the criminal is now a vigilante seeking justice. When Jordan Robinson is believed to have been pushed into the canal, Carrie and her partner are on the case, searching for clues and finding there are few who knew this young man. Interviews with his mother and estranged father provide no helpful information, and the next-door neighbor, Jade, seems to harbor a secret. When Jordan's body is not found, his mom and her friends (along with Jordan's secret boyfriend) try to lure the "Pusher" out in order to exact their own revenge. The final revelations are shocking and almost worth the time it takes to wade through dialogue of the different characters (internal and external) of the book. Perhaps the next book will give more information and provide more depth for Carrie.

I didn't like this book. It was extremely hard to get into and I didn't think that it had anything to bring someone in,

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read this book.

A series of seemingly targeted murders in the dark canal filled streets, a cobbled together family made of people who lean on each other and a detective with a troubled past are our key players. I really enjoyed this book for what it was, and what it wasn't. It managed to warm my heart and keep me in the edge of my seat. It surprised me, but not with the usual whodunit reveal. I look forward to more of this detective, and more of her back story!

This is the first book in this series featuring Detective Carrie Flynn. We learn that 20 years ago her younger sister was kidnapped and never found and that was the reason she joined the police force. A serial killer known as The Pusher is on the loose. In the last six years twelve men have gone missing at the canal, seemingly pushed in by the killer. Another young man Jordan is missing and his scarf is found near the canal. Everyone thinks ‘The Pusher’ is back but Carrie thinks that there has been two ‘Pushers’. Carrie has one clue to the identity of the killer as last year she caught a glimpse of him and saw a distinctive tattoo on his arm. Can Carrie and her partner Paul find this killer before he strikes again? What secret is Jordan’s mum Emma not disclosing? I thought this was an excellent book and I look forward to finding out more about Carrie in the next book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

I didn't really like how this book started out. It didn't catch my interest like I thought it would. I stuck with it and it turned out pretty good.
