I love a good heist film. I am always dying to see if the caper is successful. Double-Crossing the Bridge is Ocean's 11 set in fantasy. I loved this book. It was funny; I caught myself laughing out loud several times. Granu, the heroine, had some Shrek vibes. Her best friends, Kradduck and Fillig, rounded out the trio. Their food was a little disgusting, but since they are trolls, I kind of had to overlook that! The story had a surprise plot twist at the end. I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait to read this author's next book! Thank you to Netgalley and The Parliament House for the copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

This book had me snickering over and over again at the clever, Shrek-like vibes. Sometimes I got confused about how many kinds of creatures there were, or whether some of the terms were in-world species-ist slurs. But aside from that, such a fun read!

Double-Crossing the Bridge by Sarah J. Sover, a very entertaining novel. The Bridge is run by the undercrowd, those fantastical creatures including trolls who take the toll for The Bridge, when several enterprising trolls determine to rob The Bridge things get interesting.

Sarah Sover creates a fun world of disgustingly unique creatures, providing a fresh perspective that one usually wouldn’t get to see from typical fairy-tale fare. That, plus the very complex, adult tone to the story, and the themes of revenge, complacency, and friendship, made for a surprising and exotic read.
My one gripe was not being able to sympathize with or connect with Granu throughout the book. She just irritated me a bit. I actually enjoyed fun-loving and deceptively deep Kradduk the most!

If you ever wanted a story filled with monsters, mayhem, and less-than-master criminals, then DOUBLE-CROSSING THE BRIDGE is the novel for you!

Sarah J. Sover's debut is a skillful blend of traditional heist, absurdist fantasy, and satirical takes on modern society. What's fantastic is that it works on so many levels: the fantasy is solid, the humor darts from clever word-play to gross-out moments, and the whole thing is laced with surprises and delights on every page.

It's an extremely solid debut, and I'm looking forward to see what Sover comes out with next!

3,5 stars.

It's fun and original book. It's a story about underground troll society with witty and likeable characters (trolls of course).

There's a lot of humor, but author touch also some serious issues that we can find similiar in human world.

I had a little hard time starting this book, because I didn't really liked the dialogue (conversation about who want to sleep with who and that for couple of pages), but I understand that introductions had to be made and later it gets better.
