The Other Mrs. is a psychological thriller by Mary Kubica that will have you hooked from the very start. I have read other books by Kubica but I think this was my favorite.
Sadie and Will inherit an old house in a small town when Will’s sister commits suicide. They see this as an opportunity to start life anew. Along with the house, they inherit Will’s troubled teenage niece, Imogen. Shortly after moving in, their neighbor, Morgan, is murdered and that is when the trouble really begins.
This fast paced psychological thriller will keep you guessing until the very end. It is told from several points of view including Camille ( the other woman), Mouse ( a six year old girl), as well as Sadie and Will. If you are paying attention, there are hints along the way as to what is coming. Some I caught but others I didn’t. I would definitely recommend The Other Mrs. to fans of psychological thrillers. I will be eagerly awaiting Kubica’s next novel. Her novels are just getting better and better.
Oh this was was fun one! This was my first Mary Kubica thriller… gifted through NegGalley.
Oh, how do you do a thriller like this justice without giving too much away. Sadie… didn’t see that coming, but started to have suspicions around the same time they were revealing things.
This story was not a massive mind f*@£ but it definitely left you thinking, did I just read that?
If you need an unreliable narrator or multiple POV book, read this! If you just like a creepy thriller, read this!
It took me awhile to get through this book. It was ok but just didn't grip me and/or keep me wanting to read. I pushed through reading even though I kept having to put it down.
Nothing like heading into 2022 with a 2020 title on my shelf.
I am SO GLAD I picked this up FINALLY!!
I was able to read this and also listen to the audio simultaneously and it was SUPREME.
So much deception and drama.
I will never put off another Kubica novel again!
Thank you so much for the ARC.
This novel is a nice blend of mystery and thriller elements. It will definitely keep readers wondering what is happening and what did happen. The main story centers on a doctor named Sadie, her professor husband, and their two children. Their reasons for moving to a small town in Maine are not just to care for the husband's niece. They have left incidents behind and as they settle into their new home, a neighbor is murdered. Readers will wonder if there is a connection with the niece's mother's death, the strange woman who seems to be trying to pull Sadie's husband away, or maybe it is related to one of the children living under the same roof. This story is told in three different first-person points of view and with short chapters, it is a fast-paced read.
TW/CW: death; suicide; mentioned of bullying; physical and mental abuse of a child; discussions of infidelity
Thanks to Park Row Books and NetGalley for the e-galley. I listened to the final version of the audiobook for this review. My ratings and reviews are my own.
The Other Mrs. is classic Kubica - a spooky, fast paced thriller that makes you think you know and gets you in the end. I flew through this book and enjoyed every word. I absolutely got tricked by the ending twist and closed the cover satisfied by the story's resolution. Thank you to #NetGalley for the opportunity to preview The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica - I can't wait for her next release!!
I did not finish - I have tried reading this book on multiple occasions and just could not get into it.
Overall I enjoyed this book. It was slow moving at the beginning. Sadie and Will and their two sons move to an isolated Maine Island. Will's sister has died and they have guardianship of her daughter and have inherited the house. When a neighbor is murdered everyone on the island is a suspect. I was able to pick up on many of the clues so the ending was not a complete surprise. The ending redeemed the beginning of the book for me. I really liked the ending. Enjoy this suspenseful story
I love the cover of this novel and the inside. "Tne Other Mrs. is an exciting novel by Mary Kubica. A page turner for sure. Her novels are so suspenseful and always have twists that you never see coming.
I’ve read other books by Mary Kubica and I’ve loved them all. Can’t wait for more from this author. Thanks NetGalley!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Mary Kubica is normally a hit or miss author for me and this was a hit. I really enjoyed this one.
So normally I really enjoyed Mary Kubica's books. This one unfortunately was not my favorite. It was ok. Not a huge ot twist. And totally saw the ending coming.
With that said. I will always still read her books.

About the book: She tried to run, but she can't escape the other Mrs....
Sadie and Will Foust have only just moved their family from bustling Chicago to small-town Maine when their neighbor Morgan Baines is found dead in her home. The murder rocks their tiny coastal island, but no one is more shaken than Sadie.
But it’s not just Morgan’s death that has Sadie on edge. And as the eyes of suspicion turn toward the new family in town, Sadie is drawn deeper into the mystery of what really happened that dark and deadly night. But Sadie must be careful, for the more she discovers about Mrs. Baines, the more she begins to realize just how much she has to lose if the truth ever comes to light.
What I Liked: the writing style, Sadie seemed like a real person.
What I Didn't Like: That no one can just say what happened or defend themselves.
Overall Thoughts: Right off of the bat we're introduced to Sadie and then one of my least favorite tropes; people move into a house they have never seen other than through a picture. Who does that who knows into a house they've never seen? I kept reading and hoping it wasn't going to be one of those "she's crazy/gaslight" books. I'm kind of tired of those. Poor mouse. God I wanted to hug her. What are the chances of a narcissistic sociopath find a wife that has Dissociative identity disorder ?
Final Thoughts: In a way it turned out to be what I thought it was. Stupid gaslighting men! 🙄 I still enjoyed the story for the most part of it. The ending was weird though like the kids are fine even though their dad is dead . Like everybody's so much more happier now that Will is dead when Willwas never crappy to the kids . Maybe it's weird to give 4 stars to a book that had so many toupes I disliked.
The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica is another excellent dark and twisty thriller! Love Mary Kubica. Keep the books coming! #TheOtherMrs #NetGalley
The Other Mrs. was my first Mary Kubica book and I really enjoyed it! It was suspenseful and a great story to follow, and the end certainly surprised me. I'll absolutely be picking up another book by this author.
This book was confusing at first, but then it got good. Oh wow, did it get good. The twists are unreal and the ending is captivating. Well done!
This book is one of my favorites so far of 2021. I enjoyed the author's style and how she switched timelines-between the past and present. "The Other Mrs." was a fast read because it was so gripping. The ending is so shocking.
I had mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the story, but there were parts that seemed a bit unbelievable. I wasn’t super connected to any of the characters either. That said, I enjoy a good thriller that provides enough turns to keep me guessing throughout the story.
Mary Kubica has done it again. I was unable to figure this book out. It was unpredictable and kept me guessing the whole time. Being the new kid on the block is never easy, especially when one of your neighbors ends up dead!
Sadie and Will have moved from Chicago to Maine. That's big enough but they've also taken in their niece Imogen. Then a neighbor is murdered and creepy things happen. Sadie investigates and discovers...no spoilers! It's told through multiple points of view and will keep you guessing. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
