I've previously loved other books by Mary Kubica, since she's usually great at offering a surprise ending. This particular book was a bit disappointing; I figured out all the twists about a third of the way through. However, if you're not the kind of reader that likes to try to figure it out before the end, it would be a great choice. The plot does have twists and turns, with a few red herrings, and I did love the atmospheric setting. It does have some representations of mental health that didn't sit well with me, but it's not particularly unique in that respect.

A smartly written psychological thriller with multiple POVs, unreliable characters, and so many plot twists that left me in a complete tizzy and unable to guess the ending. Shortly after Sadie and her family relocate to a small coastal town in Maine for a fresh start and to take guardianship of troubled niece Imogen, their neighbor, a young mother, is found brutally murdered by a young child in the house. Each family member is so dysfunctional with their own troubled past, leaving them all vulnerable to possible accusations of murder, especially Sadie who suffers from bipolar and a life of meticuously woven of lies. Add in two more alarming characters - Camille and Mouse - and we're left doubly confused and questioning who is who and which one is telling the truth. The unraveling of Sadie, Camille, and Mouse will have you doubting what you think you know is true and false. A great domestic thriller with a strong ending full of deception and big revelations.

Let me start by saying I guessed one of the big twists at about 20% into the book, but this book definitely has more than one. My reason for a middle-of-the-road rating is that this book was a thoroughly unpleasant experience. I found myself so frustrated for just about the whole thing, to the point that it jus made me pull back and see the so-called seams of the mystery construction, like seeing the instruction manual or something. I rushed to finish just so I could be done, not because it was enjoyable or brilliant. I guess at this point I want a better character build than I want flashy twisting mysteries so heavily weighted on crazy plot. I guess I’m also exhausted of the “Gone Girl” experience.

This was a really unique story, and for the majority of it, I couldn’t tell which characters I loved and hated. Mary Kubica did a great job at spinning this story in a direction I didn’t see it going, but once she started dropping clues, it all became quite clear. I will say I was surprised once the truth came out...at first. But then looking back at these characters and comparing them to their past and present qualities, I feel like I should have known all along.
Very well written and it kept me on the edge of my seat. It you love suspense, then this is a must-read!

Mary Kubica, The Other Mrs., reads more like a terror story. than s simple mystery. The tension begins almostt imediately as Sadie moves to a new home with her husband Will and two young children. Will'ssister just died and they moved to live and care . for her daughter Imogen. A neighbor is killed and Sadide is concerned and preoccupied with her death.
Each member of the family has aadjustment problelms and difficulties relalting to each other. The ending is shocking for many reasons but both Sadie and Imogen haave established a closer working relationship and have settle down.

I loved the premise of this book however it went really dark midway through and I had a hard time enjoying the remaining half. I dont mind thriller and suspense but gore is not for me- so this book was not for me at all. I give it 3 stars for the plot. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for this e-ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Other Mrs. is another suspense masterpiece from the queen of domestic thrillers herself!
Mary Kubica knows how to set the tone and this one’s tone was creepy from beginning to end. The Other Mrs. is set on an island off the coast of Maine in an eery house with a tragic history. On top of this, the family has barely just moved in when one of their neighbors is murdered. Sadie Foust is terrified: could the murderer still be on the island? Worst, could he be living inside her own house?
Mary Kubica is one of my favorite authors, and it’s not hard to see why when you read The Other Mrs. The twists are deep, and though I had some suspicions, I didn’t see the BIG reveal coming at all. The ending was particularly fast-paced and it was twist after twist.
I really enjoyed the array of characters and the different narrators. The only reason I don’t give The Other Mrs. five stars is because I found the Imogen storyline to be a bit too much sometimes. I had a hard time believing a teenager could be so scary and out of control.
I was super excited to read this book and I wasn’t disappointed! The Other Mrs. is a must-read for fans of domestic thrillers and psychological suspense novels. And if you enjoyed this one, be sure to check out Mrs. Kubica’s other novels, which are just as good.

This was a very entertaining book with some twists and turns. Some are easy to see, but really don't diminish the book.
Following the death of her husband's sister, Sadie moves her family to a rural island off the Maine coast, where they take guardianship of Imogen, a troubled teenager. Once in the house, Sadie, who feels isolated after her husband's affair, begins dealing with some unsettling behavior from her children, Imogen, and her neighbors.
Told from three perspectives, the book examines perceptions and understanding depending on perspective.
The book was definitely entertaining, but the writing was a little thin. I felt more of the story could have been tied up, and the writer depended too much on a surprise that was not really surprising.
Thanks to the author, publisher and www.NetGalley for my ARC.

This is one intense read! One of the best psychological thrillers that I have ever read. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning until the absolutely unbelievable ending! Told in the alternating voices of Sadie, Camille and Mouse, you will be transfixed. You will learn so much about these characters and yet know nothing. This book is filled with so many twists and turns that you can't possibly know the truth of what is really happening. I love books like this, that I think I have figured out and then, blam, you are thrown for a loop! I truly never saw this ending coming. Wow, I am literally sitting here with my mouth hanging open saying, no way! Mary Kubica has woven a story rich in suspense. Filled with lies, deceit and murder, you don't want to miss this one!

I read most of this novel late at night, long after my family had gone to bed. It's atmospheric, twisty, and a decent little thriller. I readily admit I missed many of the clues given throughout the story, yet I still had a pretty good idea of where it was going to land. I was, unfortunately, correct. The ending? It lost me. A little too contrived, convenient, and honestly, pretty damn implausible.
And folks...I do NOT enjoy animal abuse in my books. If it's also a trigger for you, take heed.
Bottom line, this was a pretty average novel by an above average author. I'll definitely continue to read everything Mary Kubica publishes. I'm a fan.
**Many thanks to the publisher for my review copy.

Having enjoyed other thrillers by Kubica, I was excited to get my hands on an early copy of this one. Told through a variety of characters, it is the story of a young family in disarray. Rocked by infidelity and school expulsion, Sadie and Will move their two children up to a coastal island of Maine where Sadie works as a doctor, Will teaches college, their two boys try to fit into their new school lives, and Imogene, Will's niece who lives with them, all try to heal their numerous wounds. The perspective changes our viewpoint of the characters and makes us wonder...who is a reliable narrator, who killed the next door neighbor, and what happened in the past to create this chaos? My problem with the story, ultimately, was that it all felt a bit messy for me - some implausibility of plot twists, some "I saw that coming" story lines, thinly drawn characters were motivations were not fully developed (except for Sadie), and writing that just did not compel me to want to keep reading. I finished it, but ultimately was left unsatisfied. Thanks to Net Galley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Mary Kubica is one of my favorite authors, and she delivers again in this fast-paced thriller about a family who has inherited a house and a sullen teenager from the husband's late sister. As the story unfolds there are many twists and turns. This book kept me up late at night to see what would happen next. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a digital advance copy.

Okay, either I’m getting a little weary of reading domestic/psychological thrillers or this book was just downright cheesy. Or both. Take all of the tropes found in books like this and smash them all together and you’ve got The Other Mrs.
You’ve got multiple perspectives, mysterious women, a cheating husband, a murder, and more [redacted for spoilers]. I liked this book for most of the way through - although I admit I had absolutely no idea where it was heading. But about 70% of the way through, I immediately guessed the ending and groaned in disappointment. It’s just so cliched - it’s the type of ending you see in so, so many thrillers of this genre, made even more disappointing by its predictability. With the genre so saturated these days, I frankly expected a celebrated author like Kubica to have a more inventive and unique take for a story like this. This one is a pass for me - although it is a quick and easy read. Thank you to Harlequin (Park Row) for the chance to read an early ARC.

I've been a fan of Mary Kubica since I read the Good Girl which blew me away. This one was no different. Rumor is its being turned into a movie and I can't wait. Especially because its written as a movie but a great movie.
A family moves into a house that they have inherited. Its a creepy house that holds tragic secrets. But bad luck seems to follow the couple and suddenly their next door neighbor is murdered. Of course the suspicion is around them, because they are new to the town and to be honest, they are a little weird also.
Its an interesting suspenseful book with lots of twists and turns at every corner and detailed characters. Creepy characters, every last one of them!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

When I saw that Mary Kubica had written a new book, I rushed to pick it up. Her “The Good Girl” psychological thriller still haunts me!
Her latest twisty, psychological thriller follows Sadie and Will Foust and their two boys as they transition from Chicago to small island living in Maine. The picturesque landscape of the island is where the beauty seems to end—the Foust family moves into a creepy old home that continues to survive after the previous owners unexpected suicide. The house also comes with an unexpected guest—guardianship of the goth and troubled Imogen.
The move does not prove to be the fresh start that the family hopes when the neighbor is found murdered. It seems that there are secrets on the island, and maybe in their own family!
The Other Mrs. gave me the edge-of-my-seat twistyness (not sure if this is a word but there isn’t a great word to express this many twists and turns!) that we have come to respect. Definitely worth the read.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I have loved Mary Kubica from the first book of hers I read - The Good Girl - I have been a fan since. I was really excited to get to read her newest book before it even hit the shelves.
This book definitely kept my interest - I like stories that are told by alternating people. As the story progressed - I was actively trying to figure out what was going on and then about 3/4 through I figured out the twist, but then she threw another gotcha moment in there.
There were parts of the book that I felt could have been expanded upon, and others that had too much insignificant content that I found myself skimming through some of it to get the good stuff.
I definitely would recommend this book - and any of her books if you have not read her before.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
I have loved all of Mary Kubica's novels, and I was so excited to have been approved to receive this one. I immediately delved into it. And I did not like it all. Will and Sadie are a husband and wife who move after Will's aunt passes away, and leaves the house to Will. Will and Sadie have had a few issues in their hometown, as well as their children, so moving seems like a fresh start for them. However, I found Sadie to be wholly unlikable. I found her to be annoying, needing, whiny, vapid...I really struggled through reading this, and I almost gave up because Sadie bothered me that baby. I will say that I figured out one of the plot twists very early on; it was easy to catch. I was not, however, expecting the final twist, and I did enjoy that little surprise. However, overall the book for me was very slow and tedious, and the main characters are hard to like.

The first Mary Kubica book I read was The Good Girl, and it blew me away. The next book was Every Last Lie, and now I've reached The Other Mrs. I'd say that it's second in line of her books that I've read. It was full of the twist I know and love from Mary Kubica, but I did have some issues believing the story. It was just a bit too far for me. But, hey! Isn't that why we read?

I will leave a review on Amazon or B&N on Feb 18. 2020
I received an ARC of The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my fair and honest review.
Wow! This was a spine chilling psychological thriller, and so well written. This was such a dark and action packed book, once I started reading it was almost impossible to put down. I thought I had it figured out about half way thru the storyline but wow boy was I wrong. For those that love psychological thrillers you dont want to miss thi

This was a slow burn. Actually, it didn't burn at all for the first 2/3, just kind of smoldered. The entire premise was awkward for me. It seemed an impossible situation Will and Sadie had gotten themselves into. Living in his dead sister's home with their own children and her teenage daughter who wanted absolutely nothing to do with them was uncomfortable at best. Part of my problem is with Sadie. Without revealing too much, it seemed to me that she, as a doctor, made some really stupid decisions. Granted, we realize later what her history is but that doesn't really explain the dumb things she does half way through to try and find out more about the murder that took place in their neighborhood. Almost outlandish and unbelievable in my opinion. But then we get past that. It's a forgivable offense. I then devour the last third of the book where all the action and intrigue, deception and revelations take place. Tale of two halves, I guess. Worth the read. Thank you Park Row/Netgalley for the advanced copy!
