Like all other Beatriz Williams novels, I could not put this one down. I had been anxiously waiting to hear the story of the red head that showed up in Florida and her story did not disappoint!

My only criticism of this book is not knowing how soon I can read about what happened to Geneva Kelly. I find Beatriz Williams’ writing operatic and mesmerizing. Since I have read all of her books, I love the inter-relationship between the characters.

This book takes us to almost modern NYC, and 20’s Cocoa Beach and the Hamptons. Again we follow the magnificent red-headed Gin and her relationship with the Marshall family. During this time of prohibition, Gin is caught between the brutal bootleggers and the straight, valiant Anson.

The story is also that of Ella Domerich, living in the building that was home to Gin. Her story harkens back to some of Williams’ earlier novels and I found myself happily making all the connections. I do wish for a family tree, but that might take away some of my fun.

I do think my enjoyment was enhanced because I knew so much about the characters. I suspect reading this as a stand-alone might not be nearly as fulfilling.

I really thank Netgalley for allowing me to read something by one of my favorite authors. I urge all my readers to read some of her other novels and see how they all connect. I think they are all wonderful. My personal favorite is “A Hundred Summers” which is a great starting point and a truly memorable book. Watch for “The Golden Hour” which will be published soon since it is most easily read as a stand-alone.
