This was an enjoyable romance read and it had a little mystery to it. It made for a great escape beach read. I really like the character of Georgie and found her to be delightful. I feel this will be a great new series.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I really have to admire authors. It’s must be so hard to come up with unique stories and situations to keep your readers happy and excited. The story certainly hit that mark with me.
What I loved about this book is the heroine is a business owner and makes her own money. What a refreshing difference from a lot of the other regency style romance books.
The author created two amazing characters that were just a lot of fun, had a lot of wit, and worked really, really well together. And those sexy times were oh so steamy!
This Earl of Mine brings everything we love about Regency romance but with a modern flair. Just a fabulous story you will devour, just like I did!
What a wonderful story! This historical romance had everything; a strong heroine, a honorable rake as hero, intrigue, angst, humor and on and on! A truly complete story. Each detail and question neatly answered, no skipping huge chunks of time or wondering what happened to a character. I can only hope that Ms Bateman continues the series and Alex and Seb get their HEA too.
This delightful book starts with a most unusual and clever set up and proceeds to the final HEA in an amusing and engaging way. Desperate to avoid marriage to her greedily unpleasant cousin, Georgianna hopes to wed an about-to-be-executed convict, but settles for, she believes, about-to-be-transported instead. Imagine her surprise when he turns up in a ballroom! Both main characters are well portrayed and the writing never allows the story to drag. A terrific series start that makes me anxious for more!
So this book has been on my to-be-read list and after I started reading I wished I had left it there. I always read the reviews to gage the opinions and this one was a see-saw so I said let me find out for myself. Well I was bored, yup bored I liked that the idea was new an heiress wanting to thwart her cousins machinations and stop all the fortune hunters interested in only her money so she goes to a jail to get married to someone on death row, however that did not end up to be the case. But that was the only interesting part in the book to me anyway. Once they got into all the spy stuff I was bored, I tried to keep interested but I couldn't I start swiping as fast as I could because it was again I am going to say boring.. I was sad because I have other books to read and wasted, yes wasted my time on this one. All in all I feel that I should not give it a 2 star due to my interest but due to the idea will give it a 3 but I doubt I will follow this author..
This was a fun historical romance. The relationship was nicely developed and I liked the characters. I was definitely rooting for them! I will watch for more by this author.
Georgiana needs a way to keep an unwanted suitor at bay. Instead of the traditional route, she goes to Newgate Prison.
Benedict is a co-founder of the Tricorn Club and a spy for Bow Street. His current assignment takes him inside Newgate Prison.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly. The characters get an opportunity to grow and develop their feelings for each other. Benedict's character is great at slowly but surely turning up the heat. The steamy scenes are well executed.
My favorite aspect of this book is that the connection doesn't only involve physical chemistry, but also intellectual and shared activities of relationship. Very well done!
I'm looking forward to more of this series and finding out what happens to the rest of the Tricorn Club.
Note: I received a prerelease copy from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quite an entertaining story - plausible or not. I really liked.
Heiress Miss Georgiana Caversteed is being pestered by her odious, debt-ridden cousin to marry him. Money talks and so she bribes a Newgate guard so she can marry a condemned man. Only he isn't.
I especially liked the interaction and dialog between Georgie and Ben when they meet in society.
An engaging read that kept my interest throughout.
I read a free advance copy I received via Netgalley; the thoughts expressed are my own.
This was very enjoyable and entertaining. The female lead was strong and independent and came alive off the page. The male lead was a perfect match for her and every interaction between the two was thrilling and enjoyable. The plot was strong and it had a steady pace with no dull moments. I really liked this story and everything about it. Delicious. Action filled. Passionate. And entertaining from start to finish. Kate Bateman has a great knack for making her characters as alive and as colorful as her covers, which are stunning. I look forward to the next books in the series, each of the bachelors deserve to find their equal and a woman that will keep them on their toes.
This was the first book that I've read by Kate Bateman and I have found a new author to follow.
Georgie and Benedict had chemistry from the moment that they meet each other. I loved reading their scenes together. The secondary characters made me interested in them and I hope they get stories of their own.
I loved Georgie and Benedict. Their unconventional meeting and subsequent marriage of convenience was perfection. I love when the H and h are forced to deal with each other when it’s the last thing either of them wants to do. It makes for amazing chemistry and tension and this story was no different. Georgie’s swooning mother cracked me up as did her lovesick sister. This story was hilarious and sensual without being over the top. I love how headstrong and independent Georgie was and how those qualities really appealed to Benedict and drew her more to him. The love they had for each other just snuck up on them and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing! I can’t wait to see what Alex and Seb get into!
This reminded me of an old-fashioned Regency romance where the heroine marries a dying 'convict' and love ensues. There were delightful characters, a great line of mystery, good villains and fun historical references. I just skipped over the graphic sexual scenes and tried to enjoy the heartwarming love story. I look forward to more as we get Alex and Seb's stories.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Three and a half
This had a fairly simple plot with Georgie needing a husband who wouldn't really have any impact on her life so she's decided to marry a condemned man ! Ok that's not sounding particularly sane but her idea strangely has merit given the circumstances but it doesn't exactly go to plan and Georgie ends up wed to a convict bound for the colonies or is he ? Ben is under cover in prison and decides to humour Georgie given he does actually need some cash to help his brother but he has absolutely no idea of disappearing and pretty soon makes quite an impression on his reluctant bride !
This was a total romp and very funny at times. There's a little suspense included to show that Ben really is a good guy and of course an odious bad guy who deserves to get his comeuppance. I applaud the author on her research as it made it feel very much of its period with numerous references to books, songs, places and indeed historical characters. The dual points of view were seamless and extremely well done but for me the way these characters constantly thought about sex was totally overkill. I could almost excuse Georgie although sadly she actually felt too independent and contemporary. Plus in the Georgian period she would have had a guardian so I couldn't truly buy into the whole setup . As for Ben he is written as an experienced man of the world so unfortunately I wasn't impressed by his juvenile thoughts. I did enjoy the action packed ending and as I've stated this was most definitely a fun , light hearted read .
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair.

What a fun and entertaining book. The characters are outside the norm for historical romance and find themselves in different situations than is usually found. I found This Earl of Mine refreshing and look forward to the rest!

The first book in a new Regency romance series, an heiress and a rogue accidentally end up in a secret marriage of convenience.
In a desperate bid to keep her fortune out of her cousin's hands, shipping heiress Georgiana Caversteed marries a condemned criminal in Newgate prison. The scoundrel's first kiss is shockingly heated, but Georgie never expects to see her husband again. Until she spots him across a crowded ballroom. Notorious rogue Benedict Wylde never expected a wife. He was in Newgate undercover, working for Bow Street. To keep their marriage of convenience a secret, Wylde courts Georgie in public, but the more time they spend together, the more their attraction sparks. Could an heiress with the world at her feet find happiness with a penniless rake? Kate Bateman's This Earl of Mine is a delightful start to the Bow Street Bachelors series, with witty banter, dynamic characters, and swoon-worthy romance
My thoughts
Would I recommend it? yes
Will I be reading the rest of this series? yes
Would I read more by this author? yes
I have to say that thanks to St.Martin's Press I've found a new historical romance series to read and love , because out of all the romance genres I read that is one of my all time favorite ones to get lost in to . As well as finding a new author, the characters come off strong , as well as independent and smart, and while the story is a bit far- fetched ,that's one of the things I love about historical romance and this story because its made to get lost in and not think about how your day was or what you have to. There was times that the characters made me smile and fell more in love with them as the story went on, with that said I want to say thank you to Netgalley as well as St.Martin's Press for letting read and review it exchange for my honest opinion and I can't wait to read the next one when it comes out.

This is a new to me author. I liked the premise of the story and enjoy the marriage of convenience trope but something was missing. I liked Benedict Wylde but didn’t enjoy Georgie’s character. She was a one dimensional character and once she saw Benedict outside of Newgate she was smitten with him. I didn’t enjoy the side plot and found myself skimming. I wish the story was more character driven.
Thank you to the publisher for providing the ARC.
I had high hopes from the synopsis for This Earl Of Mine--marriage of convenience and it's the woman with money? Sign me the tf up. Sadly, this one just didn't do it for me. I like the characters and situations for the most part, but the plotting and writing was too clunky and overwrought.
As always I want to thank Netgalley and St. Martins Press for providing us with a copy of this book so that we can bring you this review.
Oh gotta love Georgie she is absolutely amazing. She is so strong and kick ass. She doesn't put up with anything and is not afraid of showing what kind of woman she is even if that is not the norm for the time. She proves that she is a strong person and able to take care of anything she needs to without the help of a man by taking care of her family business after her fathers passing. She takes charge of her own life and does what she needs to, to keep her cousin away from her money. Benedict is a strong willed man and extremely proud. He doesn't want to get money unless he has earned it. He wants to change the image that has been given to him and his family. He is a war hero even if he doesn't feel like he is. This was a great book and I enjoyed every second of it
I gave this book 5 kisses.
Happy Reading... Adri
I enjoyed this romance quite a bit. Georgie is a wonderful heroine and while her initial plan of taking control of her life by marrying a man due to be hanged doesn't work quite as planned, she is in control of her story throughout. Her partner is supportive and appreciative of her talents and the overall story is sweet. While occasionally far-fetched in terms of plot points, it flows together into an enjoyable read.
