I thought this was an adventurous and romantic story. I loved Georgie, she’s independent and adventurous, yet still unsure about herself.
Benedict appreciates everything about her. I recommend reading this book.

Georgina is an heiress to a shipping fortune. She is wanted by fortune hunters as well as her cousin. In order to thwart both, she decides to wed someone from Newgate who is to be hanged. Married and widowed in one day. But her plan goes awry when the fellow she is supposed to wed dies. The replacement is Ben Wylde , who is actually working undercover for the crown.
Their story is one of intrigue, adventure, and finding love. A very enjoyable read!
I received an ARC of this book.

I quite enjoyed this charming historical romance by Ms. Bateman. I liked the premise of this story, especially the fact that it was a little different than most of the other historical romances. I didn't love it though, not as much as I hoped I would when I started it. I can't really put my finger on the reason for that though. I just didn't have any problem putting it down and then not picking it back up for days. Because of that it feels like it took me ages to read it. But there wasn't anything about it that I'd actively dislike. Quite the opposite in fact. The main female character - Georgie, was a strong heroine with a kick ass personality, a certain charisma, and a strong will of her own capable to stand her ground against everyone else. I really liked her. We are also introduced to some secondary characters, but in a way that fits in well with the story. The layers that exist to the main characters are revealed slowly as they get to know more and more about each other. And the storyline was intriguing, though a little bit rocky in some places. Good pacing, frankly there is very little not to like about this book and I really don't know why it didn't hold my attention as it should. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it.
But overall this was a nice solid read and this is likely a good start to an amazing series I'll defenitely come back to.

*3.5 stars*

An enjoyable historical romance from new-to-me author Kate Bateman.

I love strong female characters in any novel, but I especially love them in historical romance. Give me an independent, smart, unique woman and I'll give you my heart. Kate Bateman managed that and more in This Earl of Mine.

The plot is far-fetched... and I mean, really far-fetched, but I don't mind those pesky little details like plausibility in my romance. I just went with the flow and enjoyed the chemistry and banter between the two MCs.

I wanted a little less mystery (I wasn't that intrigued by the work of the male MC) and a little brisker pace, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the character development and all of the main and side characters. There was a lot to work with there, and Kate Bateman set things up nicely for more books in the series.

Very enjoyable and promising start to a new series.

This Earl of Mine is the first of Kate Bateman's Bow Street Bachelors series, and I found it to be quite enjoyable.

Georgiana Caversteed is a shipping heiress who also knows how to run her company. I appreciated her independent mind and actions.

Benedict Wylde is a penniless former Rifle who works undercover for Bow Street, and as far as heroes go, he is quite delicious.

Georgie and Benedict fit well together, and I enjoyed their interactions and adventures.

This Earl of Mine had a bit of everything, and while nothing was wildly original, I still sped through the pages.

I also really liked the friendship and camaraderie between Benedict, Alex and Seb, and I look forward to Alex's and Seb's stories.

Some books are like an appetizer, some like the main course, some like dessert. This book is a whole buffet. This Earl Of Mine by Kate Bateman is a whole smorgasbord of delightful reading. Ms. Bateman has once more delivered a well-written book and furnished it with a cast of characters that are spectacular. Georgiana is rich, smart and trying to stay out of the clutches of her cousin. Benedict is a second son, war hero and working undercover for Bow Street when Georgiana convinces him to marry her while he's in prison. Benedict and Georgiana's story is packed with drama, humor, action, spice and suspense. I loved every page. The worst part of the book....yes, it ends. But hey, you can always read it again, right? I can't wait to read my next book from Kate Bateman. This Earl Of Mine is book 1 of the Bow Street Bachelors but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. Now where is the 6th star so I can finish this review?

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed this title. I thought the premise was very interesting and I liked both main characters. I did feel like the mystery overshadowed the romance a bit, though.

What a fun story! I loved the main characters, Georgie and Benedict, they had a wonderful banter between them and weren't caught up in constant angst about their unusual relationship. The supporting characters showed promise too. This is my first book by this author, and I look forward to reading more of this series, and her other books. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book and give my honest opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this new author.

Georgianna Caversteed's desperation for a husband leads her to Newgate prison for a quick wedding to a man she thinks will never been seen again. Little does she know that her new husband is not a prisoner and now she and Benedict Wilde must fake a courtship when they are already married.

Georgie is given many qualities of a modern woman which seem out of place for the time period, but she still must deal with fortune hunters and greedy relatives. Benedict portrays himself as a rascal and a rogue, but we learn how truly honorable he is a the story progresses.

Great beginning to a new series about the Bow Street Bachelors, second sons of the ton and spies.

Great era book. Sweeps you off your feet. It's funny and engaging. I can't say I've read many books by this author but this one is proving to be a favorite.

Loved the story of Benedict and Georgie! She thinks she's marrying a convicted felon who's about to be shipped off, when actually she's married a spy! Benedict loves teasing Georgie as others think they're courting, when they're actually married. The whole book was entertaining watching their "courtship" dance! A wonderful start to a new series! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy!

This book was really fun! The romance was sweet, and I like how the characters grew on each other. They communicated and made decisions together, which meant that down the road, miscommunication was minimal. I really liked reading about a woman who was rich in her own right, and didn't want to give that up. In so many books, the guy is rich and she's poor, or he's destitute and she just hands over her money. I liked the reversal of roles. The characters themselves were also genuinely good people, which was really nice to see.

WILL A FALSE MARRIAGE LEAD TO TRUE AND LASTING LOVE?
Shipping heiress Georgiana Caversteed is done with men who covet her purse more than her person. Even worse than the ton’s lecherous fortune hunters, however, is the cruel cousin determined to force Georgie into marriage.to him. If only she can find a way to escape his machinations.
Benedict William Henry Wylde, scapegrace second son of the late Earl of Morcott and well-known rake, is in Newgate prison undercover, working for Bow Street. No wonder that Georgie doesn’t realize who he is when she marries him. She most certainly never expects to bump into her very-much-alive, and very handsome, husband of convenience at a society gathering weeks later.
The start of a new series can define how the expectations of the books to follow. That being said I look for more and better in this series. This is book #1 in Bow Street Bachelors series. This book is filled with humor, danger and romance. The plot is a very good if unexpected one and I loved these characters. Georgie is my kind of determined heroine and Benedict is an unusual and enchanting hero.
This is my first time reading this author's work as Kate Bateman but I believe I may have read at least one of her K.C. Bateman titles.
This book is escapist and entertaining historical romance at it's best. It is the kind of book I would put on my keeper shelf to re-read.
I gave this book a solid 4.0 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization. Even the scruffy street rat type of characters make a lasting impression in this convoluted tale.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

What a fun story. Benedict and Georgie are the perfect match...though they certainly don't know it! You'll cheer for these two capable, honorable people.

Great story, i loved Benedict and Georgiana, mostly because it was one of the few regency romance novels that didn’t focus on the ton’s strictures overly much, also i found both characters refreshingly modern. Especially, that there is a series devoted to the “spares” which i have always felt get a bad look in this genre. Plus, i loved the idea that SHE is rich and he is poor, again a refreshing change of pace.

This is another new to me author. This story was written beautifully! Benedict and Georgiana’s fit together perfectly. Their attraction to one another was scorching. I love the intrigue, love and mystery all wrapped in one awesome book

Heiress and business woman Georgie marries a convicted felon to escape the harassment of her cousin who tries to force her to marry him. Despite her assumption that the man would either be hanged or deported, she runs into him at a ton assembly - surprise, surprise.
While the set-up is a bit far fetched, the following story how these two try to solve their problem of getting out of the more or less accidental marriage is very entertaining and fast paced, with a minimum of angst. While they get to know each other they solve a crime and have each other's backs in times of crisis. Very enjoyable read, highly recommended.

I liked this book quite a bit! It's the first book by Kate Bateman that I've read and I'll be interested in reading Alex and Seb's stories too as that certainly seems to be where this is heading. I'm typically more of a regency-era historical mystery reader but the summary of this sounded interesting enough to dive into a regency romance book. I liked both Georgiana and Benedict, I enjoyed that this wasn't a "typical" romance plot but had some adventure to it as well. Georgie was a good character with intelligence and personality. Some aspects of the plot line was too modern for the regency time period, but it certainly didn't take away from enjoying the story.

I loved this book! this was the first book I have read by Kate Bateman and I will definitely be back for more. Her writing reminded me of Grace Burrowes and a little of Sarah McClean. Some of the book required an elevation in your ability to suspend disbelief - but that shouldn't be a problem if you fully embrace the concept that money can buy you anything (except love) - which is basically the theme of this book!

An unlikely meeting place, two very different people, and a lot of hi-jinx make for a very compelling story. The only thing that rubbed me a little bit the wrong way was the treatment of Juliet's beau - he wrote poetry and was definitely over-the-top with his words and looks, but every time he entered the scene it felt like everyone was laughing at him in a pretty mean way.

Overall - a fun book that makes me look forward to the next one from this author.
