After bumping into her childhood crush, Nova goes on a mission to figure out who is behind unexpectant things happening. It has witchcraft, wolves, and cuteness all over. I appreciated the art style overall. The story left me wanting more, but I did find it interesting overall. I appreciated the queer representation and having a non-binary MC.
Very cute and nostalgic in a way, would love to read more from the series but it isn't my top priority as it did not blow me away. Good representation in this first volume.
I received this book for NetGalley. I wasn’t really sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. I have been looking for some possible graphic novels for some of my students to get them interested in reading. This one caught my eye. I love the name! Witches, werewolves and romance what a great combination. I think my girls will love this book. The illustrations and characters are wonderful. I look forward to more.
This was a cute story.
The illustrations were very good and the plot of the story was immersive and lovely.
There is a lot happening in the story, with a love blooming and demon awakening, this story has it all and it was a really fun read.
I adored the development of the relationship and the way the the final magical battle unfolded was good.
I also liked the characters in the story, they felt realistic and were all adorab;e.
They is also a lot of representation in this book, I cannot speak for the rep but I did like seeing it.
Our main character has a hearing disability, she has two grandmothers and Tam, the werewolves is I am assuming to be non-binary and prefers the pronouns they/them
There is also a seen in the book where Tam corrects one of the grandmothers on which pronoun to use and it was done very well.
Overall this was a cute story, had great diversity and I had a great time reading it.
A magical entry into graphic novels, heartfelt and engaging story and art. The plot is sweetly framed by both baking and magic.
Unfortunately this didn't work on any of my devices - it was just a page of code! But thank you very much for accepting me to read it. I will definitely be trying to get a copy when I can because it looks great.
What a cute graphic novel! I loved the family aspect and the relationship between our 2 main characters. I found it quirky and fun and the illustrations are just stunning!
Thankyou so much to Netgalley for providing me with an arc (a long time ago)
I wouldn't consider myself to be a huge reader of graphic novels, but Mooncakes is by far one of the best I've ever read. The world was so magical and intriguing. The plot was fast-paced and easy to follow. And the illustrations are so lovely. I loved the childhood friends to lovers sapphic romance. In fact, there was so much representation packed into such a short story! I would totally recommend this for any contemporary fantasy fan. Or anyone looking for a soft graphic novel in the vein of The Tea Dragon Society.
Adorable, I love the artwork in this graphic novel. I would've liked a bit more as far as plot is concerned, but that was really my only complaint. I highly recommend this cute and easy to read graphic novel!!!
Mooncakes was a beautiful graphic novel that featured unconditional family love, found family and a super cute relationship between a female and a non-binary character!
This story was about Nova, a Chinese-American girl who is currently dealing with the loss of her parents and how one night she followed a white wolf into the woods. The wolf is attacked by a horse-demon and it is revealed that Nova's childhood crush,Tam. is the wolf. Tam is also Chinese-American and is non-binary. Now Tam & Nova have to work together to figure out where this horse-demon is coming from and how to defeat it.
Overall, this was a cute, quick read with beautiful illustrations and amazing rep.
My new favorite graphic novel! I loved it! Everything, from the story, to the graphics, to the characters was incredible. Without a doubt I will be recommending it to everyone I know.
this was a very inclusive, imaginative book and I adored it!
the artwork was phenomenal and the characters were well described and I also thought the story was beautiful. hope there's a sequel
I really love this graphic novel! The illustrations in it are some of my favorites and I absolutely love how much representation is in it.
This title was everything I needed. I loved every inch of it: from the pitchy romance to this beautiful artwork! I highly recommàd it to you and I’ll buy a physical copy right away!
Mooncakes is such an amazing graphic novel! It won't be published until October 2019, but I can already picture the impact it will have on queer teens across the globe. It only loses one star through no fault of its own: I received an ARC in ebook format, meaning that the final chapter was incomplete (not in colour, which unfortunately detracted from the story itself and made the ending feel slightly anticlimatic, as all of my focus was on the change of presentation). I also find reading graphic novels so much more enjoyable when in print - so I reckon I might treat myself to a physical copy when this is released, so I can enjoy it properly! Either way, I highly recommend it
i recieved a free e-arc of this book from netgalley. This was a very lovely read. I appreciated the minority represeantations in this book: such as the lgbt+ and disabled community
This is a super cute book. Who doesn’t love a book that involves a book store! I think some of my students would really enjoy this one!
A very sweet and wonderfully diverse graphic novel about magic and monsters. Have already handed it to a teen at my library!
AHH I LOVED THIS GRAPHIC NOVEL! I usually have a hard time getting into these types of novels, but this one reeled me in and hooked me! It made me feel so warm and fuzzy inside. The characters were so easy to connect to. The story was a breath of fresh air! It was such a good story that someone could relate to easily.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I skimmed much of this book in hopes of reading our copy when it came in the library, however, it's always checked out so I am waiting to read it in full.
