Last month I asked for and received my first #netgalley book! I was super excited to as my first book was none other than @neilpasricha 's book,' You are Awesome '
I finished reading the book in 2 days! Much like his previous book, the happiness equation, he outlines 9 secrets to leading a more intentional life.
Neil speaks about personal experiences in the book and talks about what he's learned from those experiences. As I read through the 9 steps, I found myself saying, yes, this makes sense. The chapter on "Tell yourself a different story" hit home for me. In it Neil talks about shame and the 'swamplands of the soul'.
"Your problem is not the outside world. Your problem is the story you're telling yourself about the outside world. And that story is a choice. If you're not happy with the story, tell yourself another story. Period. That simple."
The last line of this paragraph is "and most people will hear what I said and not change anything."
How true is that for most of us? I know that it's true for me. There have been many times I've told myself that I'm not good enough, that I can't do it, I shouldn't do it.
Neil takes these statements and flips them around by seeing the positive in all situations.
It's all about our outlook on life and what we tell ourselves. Yes, all this is easy and relatable but difficult to put into action.
Every day we make hundreds of choices and we have the opportunity to change our thoughts, to never give up, and to add that dot, dot, dot to our story.

I loved this book! It was the perfect combination of Neil’s personal stories and research about living an awesome life.

This book was divided into nine different tips on how to be awesome. These include “Lose More to Win More,” which was about taking more chances to have more success as well as failure, and “Fine Small Ponds,” which was about finding success by being the big fish in a small pond.

Each of these tips were divided into easy to follow sections, which had a great mix of research and stories from Neil’s life. Each story he told illustrated the subject perfectly. These ranged from his mother’s resilience while growing up in Kenya, and a man who told him his biggest secrets during a flight.

I found this book so inspiring. It has made me so much more positive about my outlook on life and the way that I think about success.

Thank you Simon and Schuster Canada for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Pasricha's You Are Awesome is a book about resilience and moving forward after failure. He wrote about his personal experiences with failure. I found he had a good flow and I read through the book fairly quickly.

Looking for a little confidence booster? Then this book is what you might want to check out next. "You Are Awesome" is a book I wasn't sure I would be into, but gave it a shot anyways. I've been really into these kind of non fiction, self help books lately, and I'm glad I gave this one a chance. Inside, are steps to not only make yourself feel better about your situation, whatever that may be, but also ways to combat the feelings you feel and turn them into something productive.

It begins with a really intense and interesting story about a man who has built up enough resilience to conquer his feelings. What more could you ever want in your life? This is something that really spoke to me, as someone who is completely dominated by her emotional rollercoasters. To be able to simply survive them and not be affected by them would me amazing, and only added to my excitement for this book.

The man really just knew that "every skyrocketing pleasure or stomach churning defeat defines not who he is, but simply where he is." I would love to know his secret. The book talks about how although we live in a world that teaches us to break and not bend, we need to teach ourselves how to react in less self harming ways, and although things might be bad, they won't be bad forever.

Overall, this is just a book I needed to read, and I think that a lot of other people should read too. It gives you tons of helpful outlets, and ways to step aside from the feelings you're feeling, to become more productive. It was a very fast read, and even if you don't think you're going to like it or have time for it, you should check it out and get your own confidence boost.

Thanks for reading!

Neil Pasricha is back with his latest book, this time with "9 Secrets to Getting Stronger and Living an Intentional Life". This book is basically about changing the way we see failure and building resilience, so that we can be our awesome selves!

It is divided into 9 parts, one for each 'secret' and this was one of my favourite parts of the book. It makes it easy to keep track of the different tips he is providing, and therefore go back and re-read the sections which speak to you specifically. I also really liked that after each section, there is a summary of the 'secrets' which have already been covered. He uses stories from his own life, real-world examples and scientific research to back up exactly what each 'secret' is about. In his trademark witty and awesome style, he cuts right to the chase and doesn't sugar coat each section with too much information. His positive outlook on life is contagious, and I must say I flew through this book and could easily relate. I had very high expectations going into this one. I absolutely loved The Book of Awesome and continue to use it on a regular basis when life gets me down. With that being said, although I did enjoy this book, and will likely reference it in the future, I was hoping for more. I am not sure what exactly, but it just didn't have the "wow" factor that his other books have had. I certainly respect his approach to writing and his ability to dive into his own life and shortcomings, all with an ounce of humour and I will definitely check out his future works as well.

The book is an easy read for anyone looking to become stronger and build a better and more intentional life. I will definitely be using several of these 'secrets' in my everyday life. This book is for everyone and anyone "who needs a reminder that every problem is an opportunity, that every dead end had a hidden door, and that every step back is ultimately a step forward".

A huge thank-you to NetGalley, and Simon & Schuster Canada for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Let me just start by saying: I LOVE Neil Pasricha.

LOVED the "Book of Awesome." LOVED "The Happiness Equation". So of course, I absolutely LOVED "You Are Awesome."

"You Are Awesome" is timely and relevant. As Pasricha states within the first few pages, we're living in a world of unrealistic expectations, perfectionistic tendencies and lack of resilience. We NEED an upheaval in society, and Pasricha gives perfect tips on how to reacquaint ourselves with failure, and how to bounce back.

Everyone needs to read YOU ARE AWESOME. Actually, everyone needs to read ALL of Neil Pasricha's books. EVERYONE. Definitely, definitely pick this one up - I guarantee, you're going to fall in love with Pasricha's storytelling skills and positive energy, and come back rejuvenated and INSPIRED.

This is a short and sweet book that is packed full with lots of tips and tricks for changing your life around with lots of humorous and serious stories from Neil's own life. I have read Neil's previous books and I liked how this ties into those, but also strikes out on its own.

My only complaint is that the chapters were very short and I felt like because of this they were a little choppy. I would of preferred a bit more of a flow, but I did really like what he wrote about in the book. This book was funny, but also had lots of practical life advice.

I've read several of this author's inspiring books. This is yet another great addition to your library: turn to it when you've had a rough day. Don't let everyday failures or even major failures keep you down forever is the take away from this one. Highly recommended and a quick read.

An excellent book for people today. Especially the group between 16-50 years of age. My generation was resilient. Life wasn't expected to be easy. It was the war years and we were raised to meet life head-on. To give more than receive. We were the loving ones. Now no one listens to us.

I do not generally read self help books, but knowing this author is really popular, I thought I would give this one a try. I was really impressed. The advice is reasonable in that it is not hard to try and follow. The book is written with humour and is very easy to read. I will be happy to recommend this one to my customers.
