Her Silent Cry is the 6th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series but can be read as a stand-alone. This book is probably the least favorite one for me in this series. I've been reading a lot of books lately with strong female leads, and unfortunately this one didn't fit the bill. There was something about Josie that just didn't work for me. There is no chemistry between Josie and Noah. She seems to do or say things without thinking. And Mettner just irritated me.
Overall, I found the story line not very interesting.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of Lisa Regan's "Her Silent Cry" in exchange of an honest review.
This is the 6th book in the Detective Quinn series. I have not read the other books in this series but I did really enjoy this book. A 7 year old girl is kidnapped and no one knows what happened. Detective Quinn thinks the family is hiding info that could help solve this case. This book has lots of twists and turns and everyone is keeping secrets.
Your in the park with your daughter your on the carousel it takes you a few seconds more to get off and in them moments your daughter has disappeared. Josie Quinn is also in the park she helps Amy to look for her daughter Lucy but they can’t find her and nobody has seen her . Josie then calls her team in they have search parties out looking for her then the dogs arrive and one follows a scent to a fence which is beside a road . Lucy’s backpack has also been found with a message in it.Josie now thinks Lucy has been taken. The F.B.I are called in and they work with Josie’s team.
With the body count growing and them not getting any further in finding Lucy . Will they find her alive ?
Are Amy & Colin her parents hiding something. With more secrets coming out this book is a really good read .
Thanks Netgalley
This police procedural/thriller was a page-turner. From the onset, you are invested – you want to know what happened to Lucy, who took her, and why. Josie is strong, smart, and determined. She is quick to take charge and willing to do whatever needs to be done to find the missing child. The investigation points in one direction, only to then turn in another, and then veer off in yet another – without identifying the kidnapper and motive until almost the very end. Relatable characters and unexpected plot twists made for an engrossing read.
This was my first time reading anything by Lisa Regan; it probably won’t me my last. Although Her Silent Cry can be read as a standalone, I may have to find time now to go back and read the rest of the series.
This was the 6th book in the Detective Quinn series, and having read all of them this week, all I can say, if you are not reading them, you are seriously missing out. I read a lot of crime fiction, and some of them promise a twist and doesn't deliver, a gripping read but bore the life out of you, and honestly, this is not one of them. This is one of the best crime fiction novels I've read this year so far, and can not recommend it enough!
This is a heart pounding ride of a missing little girl! How could she be taken in front of both parents, and Detective Quinn? Who would Lucy run off with, or why would someone hate Amy, the Mother so much, that he would committ murders to torture her even longer? This is another well written Josie, and Noah story. I do wish they did more than snuggle.
I highly recommend! Thank you Netgalley!

These books just get better and better and i am absolutely obsessed. Josie is one of my favorite protagonists; she's strong, determined and flawed and so real. She owns up to her mistakes and her strength shines through as she attempts to unravel whatever mystery and crime has been committed in her town. This story was incredibly plotted, multi layered and very well written. I felt for everyone involved, even for the villain as their backstory and motive was revealed. I definitely recommend everyone read this series.
Now we all know i love a Lisa Regan / Josie Quinn novel. Book 6 in the series however, whilst good, failed to keep my enthralled like the previous 5. Not sure why exactly, i guess the story line was just plodding along a bit.
That being said - i always look forward to another instalment of Josie Quinn so this won't deter that.
Thank you to the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Josie is at the park minding her friends son when she meets a young woman with her daughter. They chat briefly and each goes there own way. Minutes later the woman is heard calling her daughters name who seems to have wandered off. Josie sets about helping organise a search and calls in her team. As time goes on it looks like an abduction and the tension begins to climb. Is this a random opportunist or someone with a grudge? What are the parents hiding? As the body count climbs Josie and her team are under pressure to find the little girl and the kidnapper.
Yet again I loved this Josie Quinn instalment. All the characters are there and it is a tension filled read. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and Lisa Regan for this ARC in exchange for an honest review
The plot and character development in this book was heavily ties to the previous novels in this series, so I sent most of the book a little lost at points. It really distracted from the plot and overall enjoyment of the story. Overall it wasn't bad, but I would have to go back and read all the previous books before reading the next.
Lucy Ross, the butterfly obsessed little girl has gone missing…last seen on the carousel with her mum….how could she just disappear?
Detective Josie Quinn was there herself…..but didn’t see anything untoward….
But then a note is found…..Lucy has been kidnapped.
Then they receive a call from the nanny’s phone …with demands …but where is the Nanny?
There are murders, threats and so much tension it’s palpable at times….will they find out who the killer is? Will they manage to find Lucy before it’s too late?
A clever plot, great characters, Josie Quinn is so likeable, and enough tension and twists to keep you on tenterhooks throughout….a brilliant read.
Thank you to Bookouture, the author and NetGalley for a free copy of the ebook. This is my in honest, unbiased review.
EXCERPT:Their argument crashed in angry waves against the door between us, slamming against the wood, pooling on the floor and slipping underneath where I could hear every word. Most of the time, I didn't understand what they were saying or even why they were fighting. I only understood that she was about to get hurt; the silent way, or the screaming way. I was never sure which was worse.
no matter how badly he hurt her, she always found her way back to our room eventually. She's lower herself into our creaking bed, hissing her breaths through gritted teeth, and reachfor me. I learned to be very careful when I moved under the covers. Sometimes even the slightest pressure would make her gasp with pain. As gently as I could, I would curl my back into her stomach and wait for the trembling fingers skittering over my scalp to eventually fall into a slow soothng rhythm.
I had so many questions, but I didn't ask them. I didn't want the man to hear me, to remember I was there too. When the ragged edges of her breath smoothed out, she'd let out a soft sigh that meant she had reached a point where her pain was bearable.
'It's okay,' she'd say. 'It will be okay.'
She was always a bad liar.
ABOUT THIS BOOK: Round and round she goes, blonde pigtails flying, her high-pitched giggle catching on the wind. But as the ride slows to a stop, her seat is suddenly empty. Little Lucy is gone…
When seven-year-old Lucy Ross is snatched from the carousel in Denton city park, Detective Josie Quinn joins the frantic search. She’s the one who finds Lucy’s sparkly butterfly backpack abandoned by the ticket booth, a note with a devastating message stuffed inside: answer your phone, or your sweet little darling will die…
The next day, Lucy’s parents are filled with hope when they pick up a call which they think is from their babysitter – but instead it’s a chilling male voice on the line. Josie races to the babysitter’s small apartment only to find her lifeless body in a tangle of sheets on her bed.
Josie is faced with the most high-stakes case of her career as each new phone call from someone connected to the family ends with the shocking discovery of another body. This twisted killer wants revenge, and he won’t stop until the Ross family are in pieces…
Something is telling Josie that Lucy’s parents aren’t giving her the whole truth, but digging deeper into their lives will force her to confront a life-changing secret of her own. Does Josie have what it takes to crack this case? She has no choice if she’s going to bring Lucy home alive…
MY THOUGHTS: 5 super-novas!!!!!
If you are planning on starting this book, don't plan on doing anything else....it is one of those 'just one more chapter' books. The sort where ten chapters later you are still telling yourself that you will read just one more chapter before you go cook dinner....and end up ordering in. I read this in one sitting, couldn't put it down.
I didn't even stop reading long enough to highlight anything, or select possible passages for my excerpt...that has never happened before!
Breathtaking, heartpounding tension, this has to be the best book in the series yet, and the earlier books have been excellent.
Don't waste time reading my review...just read this book!

I'd never read a novel by Lisa Regan but I can now see why she has a large and loyal fan base.
This is a great thriller, extremely well written and with enough pace and tension to keep the reader hooked.
No real twist but the ending was very well executed and tied everything up nicely.
I will look for more by this writer.
Josie is back!
After the stormy goings on from book 5 I was wondering where we would pick up with my favourite detective.
Book 6 starts with a missing 7 year old girl, every parents nightmare and a little close to home for me as I have an almost 5 year old who loves to venture off in the park. At 25% the story got a bit much and I’d creeped myself out…..
I laid awake for ages thinking of poor lost Lucy and her parents.
Who took her?
Why did nobody see her?
Where is she?
So many questions and so many more being asked as I devoured this book in a day.
I love how Josie has a gut instinct and that her team, or most of it trusts it. It’s as if she can get into the killers mind, knows what they are thinking and what they’re going to do next….. it amazes me that she’s some what always right!
I love how Noah and Gretchen always have her back, doing everything and anything to help, even with Noah on crutches, he’s never too far away from the action. I really like the addition of Detective Finn Mettner, he has his own ideas and isn’t shy of voicing them, I hope he’s staying in the series.
As always this book was action packed and truly gripping. I thought I had the plot sussed until the author threw me off the trail and with a nice little twist at the end!
This is the 6th in a series and. I have not read any of the prior books. However, that did not affect my enjoyment of this book. Josie is a great protagonist with a complicated back story that will have me seeking out the prior books. While you see where the mystery is headed pretty early on it is still an enjoyable ride getting there.
Based in US town of Denton, this series has followed Josie Quinn. In this latest instalment, Josie is looking into the case of 7 year old Lucy Ross who is taken from the town’s park and right under her parents noses. When others associated with Lucy’s family are brutally murdered, Josie has to come to the conclusion that Lucy has been taken by someone who may know her. It’s a race against time for Josie and her team to put together the pieces and find Lucy.
This is book #6 in the Detective Josie Quinn series. Whilst it can be read as a standalone story, for better understanding of the characters and their back stories, I would recommend reading the other books in the series.
I love this series and have followed it through right from book one. Josie is a great character as I have read the other books I know what has happened to her over the last few years. She hasn’t though let any of her tragic past affect how she does her job and is a dedicated police officer. Spending time with her friend’s son in the park, she ends up right in the middle of the disappearance of Lucy Ross and whilst it’s shocking that it all happens right under their noses, Josie remains professional to help Lucy’s parents. I have to admit though that I have in previous books seen a more tender side to Josie, whereas in this book she does seem a bit more “cold hearted” towards Lucy’s parents. I would like to think that this was due to her remaining professional rather than a change in her character!!
Her team also return with her in this book, but they don’t play as big a part as they have done in previous books in the series. I do like Gretchen’s character, so was disappointed that we didn’t see as much of her, but I did enjoy the story focussing on Josie’s character more. The story was gripping and it didn’t take many pages for me to become hooked into it. It was, at times, a difficult read due to the nature of a child abduction, but it was written sensitively and the storyline had me turning the pages furiously to find out what happened to little Lucy. Whilst I had my suspicions of different people, none of them turned out to be right and it was great when everything was revealed as I genuinely hadn’t guessed!
This was a suspense filled story with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing until the end. This series continues to get better and better despite being six books and I’m excited as to what this author can come up with for the next book in Josie’s story! Would definitely recommend not just this book, but the whole series!
Josie Quinn is back, ladies and gentleman! I cannot believe that we are on book six of the series already, I really hope there are plenty more of these books to come. If you haven't read any of the previous books in the series, don't starting panicking as each book can read perfectly well as a standalone. That said (as always), if you like to know more of the backstory of the characters you're reading about, I would advise reading the books in order, especially as 'Her Silent Cry' doesn't really show as much of Josie Quinn's personality or history, like the other books do.
Now you see her, now you don't. Literally. Seven year old Lucy was on a carousel one moment, and then the next it was as though she had disappeared into thin air. Detective Josie Quinn has seen more than her fair share of child disappearances, so she is well aware of the importance of time and getting the child back home sooner rather than later.
If only it was that easy....! There are a lot of dots to try and connect in this storyline, and I have to say that the author was exceptionally clever at not tripping up! I didn't guess the outcome before it happened, instead I managed to scare the AHEM out of myself when I went downstairs and thought someone was behind me when in fact, it was just my hair and the kitchen light making it appear different. So yeah, the storyline is pretty atmospheric and realistic!
I was bowled over by the intensity of the book and the uncertainty of Lucy's future. The not knowing is what made my blood run cold as I had everything crossed that she would go back home unharmed. Even though I admitted above that 'Her Silent Cry' doesn't show much of Josie's personality, I still felt as though we were able to see a different side of her than in previous books. I'm not saying that she never had a heart, however she did come across a lot more human than before, and the disappearance of Lucy really made Josie Quinn seem approachable and less like a Rottweiler.
'Her Silent Cry' is such an unsettling, uncertain, and brilliant novel which really tunes into the psyche of the characters and the outcomes of the choices they make in life. This series is one of the best series I think I have ever read, so more please!!
I have been a fan of Lisa's work since I had the good fortune to pick up a copy of the first book in the series featuring Detective Josie Quinn, which is called 'Vanishing Girls'. Each time Lisa has written a subsequent book in the series, I have grabbed a copy and then hidden myself away until I have finished reading it. 'Her Silent Cry' is the sixth book in the best selling series featuring Detective Josie Quinn and it is another thrilling read. I absolutely loved 'Her Silent Cry' but more about that in a bit.
What can I say about Detective Josie Quinn? She is a dedicated police officer, who is in charge of a small team. Josie has had problems in her personal and work lives but she hasn't let them hold her back. She just gets on with things. When Josie is handed a case, you just know that she will put her heart and soul into an investigation and she will not rest until that case has been fully investigated and subsequently closed. She is in a relationship, with Noah who she works with. Noah has had his problems and has recently suffered family bereavement. He is still trying to deal with his grief and not allow it to interfere with his work. Josie works well as part of a team but at the same time she works well on her own. Josie's team are like a well oiled machine- each knows what they are doing and when they are doing it. Josie and her team are mostly loyal to each other. They may have their disagreements in private but in public they look out for each other. Josie has a gut instinct that is usually spot on. She's the kind of person you would want on your team because she spots things or clues that others don't immediately see.
As with all of Lisa's books, I became addicted to 'Her Silent Cry' from the moment I read the synopsis, never mind from when I began to read the book itself. It didn't take me long at all to become addicted to the story itself. In fact as soon as I began to read the story itself, I felt as though I was back working with Josie and her team. I made the fatal mistake of starting to read this book shortly before I was due to go to sleep. I picked the book up only intending to read a couple of chapters but I was still sat there reading over ten chapters. Let's just say that I read into the wee small hours of the morning and decided that sleep was for wimps. It didn't take me long to finish the book. The pages turned increasingly quickly as my desperation to find out how the story concluded grew and grew. At one point the pages were turning that quickly that it was almost as if they were turning themselves and all too soon I reached the end of the book, which I was most disappointed about. I don't mean that I was disappointed with how the story ended but I was enjoying the author's writing style, the characters and the storylines so much that I just wanted the book to continue.
'Her Silent Cry' is brilliantly written but then I wouldn't expect anything else from Lisa Regan. She has a writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. She writes so realistically and uses such powerful descriptions that I really did feel as though I was part of the story myself and that I was an extra member of Josie's team. I found that I was trying to interact with the book and by that I mean that I was 'talking' to the book as if the characters can hear me. Now I know that might sound daft to some but if I enjoy a story to the extent that I enjoyed this one, I tend to 'live' the story as if it were real. I have a far too vivid imagination for my own good!
Reading 'Her Silent Cry' felt very much like being on an at times scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride, with more twists and turns than you would find on a 'Snakes & Ladders' board. There were definitely some heart stopping and stomach churning moments within the book. On more than one occasion I felt my heart rate rise, my blood pressure soar and I was holding my breath in anticipation of what was about to happen. At times I didn't want to turn the pages over because I feared what was going to happen next. I did give my head a shake though and told myself that if I wanted to know how the story concluded then of course I would need to keep turning those pages.
In short, 'Her Silent Cry' is another fantastic and brilliant read from Lisa Regan. This book is sure to soar to the top of the bestsellers list and that is nothing less than Lisa deserves. I can't wait to read more of Lisa's work. Here's hoping that we don't have too long to wait for the next book. I would definitely recommend Lisa and her books to other readers. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
Excellent psychological thriller! It moved at a fast pace with twists and turns throughout! Well-developed characters and plot. Highly recommend!
This is another very good read in the Josie Quinn series as she investigates the disappearance of a seven year old girl who is abducted from the park. Although a stand alone, it is best to read the previous books for character development. I liked the insight into Josie's personal life, the plot was good and it had plenty twists and turns. A very good series which I would recommend. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC. Reviews on Amazon, Goodreads and Facebook.
