A little girl disappears from a carousel ride without anyone seeing where she went - even her mother and father who were close at hand. An abduction? a kidnapping? Detective Josie Quinn happens to be nearby playing with a friend's child. Her reaction is immediate and help comes from all directions but, in cases like this, time is of the essence.
This was my introduction to Lisa Regan and I had no trouble following the essential pieces of Josie's backstory. On the other hand, despite flashbacks and multiple leads in the disappearance of 7yo Lucy Ross, Regan kept me guessing until the closing pages. Tense twists and turns, with very little violence and just a touch of romance, kept me turning pages.
Even though Her Silent Cry is the sixth in the series - it can be read as a standalone. I will definitely will adding the earlier books in this series to my TBR list.
What a great series this is. After having read the previous part, you might think this can't get any better, but hey guess again. The author shakes this out of her sleeve as if it's as simple as learning the ABC. It's so great when a book can have you utterly mesmerized and leaves you gobsmacked after the final revelations.
The story also contains a big amount of emotions. It broke my heart but I also wanted to slap Lucy's mum. I On the one hand I understood her, on the other I did not at all.
And then there is Josie. You just have to love and admire her and the way she and her team interact. She is awesome.
This sixth book was a masterpiece once again. 5 stars.
Thank you, Lisa Regan and Bookouture (via Netgalley).
Her Silent Cry by Lisa Regan is my first read of this author. After reading the blurb, at first sight it looked like just another “missing child” novel. But boy was I wrong?
Amy reports her 7 year old daughter Lucy missing while she was playing on the carousel at the park. Coincidentally, Detective Josie Quinn was also at the park and the wheels of police procedure are set in motion and all join forces to find the missing child. They are well aware that the first few hours are crucial to the abduction. It was like a now or never situation for Josie and the case hit too close to home since she was in the park too when the perpetrator carried out the abduction.
There are more deaths which baffle the police and together with the FBI, they launch a desperate investigation to find Lucy. Have the parents revealed all – are they holding back something significant to the investigation?
The police procedurals as well as the emotional psyche of the distressed parents are effectively captured by the author. The frustration Josie feels at being unsuccessful in rounding up the perp who probably walked by right in front of her nose, is evident, as she is faced with yet another baffling incident. The parallel narration of the abused child adds to the suspense and the anticipation of the readers. The readers get sucked into this narrative with tremendous force and the ending is as unexpected and unpredictable as it can be. Empathy lies with Josie, the detective rather than Amy, the mother.
The writing is intense, easy to comprehend and the plot is gripping.
Definitely looking forward to read more from Lisa Regan.
My score: 4 * / 5
Thank you to Bookouture for letting me take part in this tour and my copy of this book via Netgalley. This is the 6th book in the series but they can all be read as standalones.
This book is set a few months after the last one. Josie is at the park with baby Harris when little Lucy goes missing. If there is one person you want on your case it is definitely Josie Quinn. Josie is as tough and badass as ever in this book. While she is going through a lot of personal stuff in this book she is as professional as ever and completely focused on the case.
This book was action-packed. It was very difficult to put down as I always needed to find out what was going to happen next. I guessed quite early on how the flashbacks related to the present day but Lisa still had a few tricks up her sleeve to reveal.
It sounds weird to say it was a pleasure to return to the world of Josie Quinn given the circumstances but Lisa always drags me right back in with such ease it's like I never left. I can't wait to see what happens next with Josie
Detective Josie Quinn was enjoying a day off with her nephew Harris at the park when the unthinkable happened. Lucy Ross, seven years old and with both parents also at the park, somehow, inexplicably, vanished from sight. Josie immediately called her team and coordinated the searching for a little girl who must have run towards home – surely – but there was no sight of her. When it became obvious that Lucy had been abducted, the FBI were called in. Their highly trained child abduction unit swung into action…
The first phone call to Amy Ross’ phone was shattering. A cold, heartless voice taunted Amy; her husband Colin was equally distraught. But worse was to come – much worse. With bodies turning up at each turn, Josie knew she needed to dig deeply and quickly. But was Lucy still alive – or was the killer just playing games with her parents, the police and FBI? Josie was determined to find Lucy – but at what cost?
Her Silent Cry is the 6th in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan and I absolutely loved it! Gripping, intense, emotional, heartrending – a psychological thriller with bite! Ms Regan writes this series with ease – I’m really looking forward to #7. Highly recommended (but read them in order of publication if you can 😉)
With thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is part of a series but can be enjoyed as a standalone book.
Josie is a dedicated, complicated and driven detective who has had a life and career of hard cases.
There are sub plots of friendship, new love, anxiety woven around the abduction of a young girl while her parents stand mere feet away from her.
Secrets are revealed and I didn't guess who dunnit until almost the very end.
Now, I'm ready to go back and read the rest of the series!
Detective Josie Quinn is enjoying a day off at the local park babysitting her friends/deceased exhusbands son.
The added attraction of a carousel ride means the park is packed with parents and children.
When a frantic cry is heard, it is discovered that little Lucy Ross has disappeared. Noone saw her get off the carousel when it stopped.
Josie calls in the rest of her team and the search is on to locate 7 year old Lucy.
Every second counts when children go missing, Lucy seems to have vanished without a trace. Has she run off or has she been snatched?
As the investigation progresses evidence is uncovered revealing Lucy has been kidnapped.
The suspense builds relentlessly and when a chilling message is recieved from the abductor along with a body its obvious the kidnapper wants more than just a ransom!
Can Josie get to the bottom of this mystery, what is Lucy`s mother hiding?
As the questioning of the family and witnesses reveals clues the tension rises. An exciting read thats well worth your time.
An easy 5stars from me and thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this as an ARC.
Every so often a book comes along that deserves to be read in one sitting. Often this is the author's debut novel but Lisa Regan has managed to write 6 such books. In each we learn a bit more about Det Josie Quinn and her colleagues but the books can also be read as a stand alone.
The pace is set here as soon as you discover that the plot deals with the disappearance of a 7 year old girl. Immediately the team of local cops begins to search and before long the state police and the FBI are involved. The questioning of the family and witnesses really racks up the tension and flashbacks add to this. All of these things make for a really exciting book that kept me up late into the night. This is a great series that I hope the author plans to add to, I'll certainly be looking out for the next book.

Josie Quinn is babysitting Logan in the park. Whilst there a child Amy Ross is abducted from the carousel. Josie is tasked with finding the child which quickly involves the FBI. This book keeps for on the edge. Lots of twists and you don’t see the end coming. Despite not reading the other books in the series you could easily pick up the history of the characters. Well written and very enjoyable
Detective Josie Quinn is part of the huge team searching for an abducted child in this thriller that kept me turning the pages fast and furiously.
What it's about: Lucy is a seven-year-old girl who loves butterflies and who lives with her well-to-do parents, Colin and Amy Ross in Denton, Pennsylvania. When at a local park, Lucy gets off the carousel and vanishes. Soon the FBI is called in to help with the search but they have no leads and things are very bleak. Then, they hear a message from the abductor. There's another message as well -- a body. Then another. It seems the kidnapper has an agenda but Josie can't wrangle any information from Amy about who might have taken her child. Although there is a half-hearted ransom demand, the kidnapping doesn't seem to be about the money. It turns out that Amy has some huge secrets. NO SPOILERS.
Why you should read it: This is a great series that has really grown on me as I've come to know Josie, her boyfriend, Lieutenant Noah Fraley, the other police officers under her command, and her family and friends. All of their collective history makes each book like a family reunion as you get updates and new information about them. But the focus is also on this complicated child abduction case. There are some interesting twists and turns as the narrative plays out and the procedural details of the investigation are described. Some very tense moments and lots of drama surround this missing child scenario. The writing is excellent and the pacing is perfect to keep your tension high. I have read all of the installments, in order, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review.
A child is snatched from a park, gone from a spinning carousel. There's a note for her parents in her abandoned backpack. Josie Quinn needs to find out what happened, what the parents know, and the child before it's too late
Her Silent Cry (Detective Josie Quinn Book 6) was a thoroughly good read. Josie Quinn was enjoying a day off at Denton City Park Playground, when a child goes missing. Although the park is filled with people, nobody notices when seven year old Lucy Ross disappears from a carousel ride in full view of everyone waiting in line. Lucy who is obsessed with butterflies, is the only child of Amy and Colin Ross. Did Lucy simply just wander off, or was she abducted?
An Amber Alert is issued, when a piece of evidence is found at the site of her child's disappearance. The FBI is called and Special Agent Ruben Oaks of the Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Squad, join Forces with Josie's team to bring Little Lucy back home.
At first it looks like someone has a grudge against her father, whose pricing policies at the drug company Quarmark, practically ensures that it is priced out of reach for the average cancer sufferer.
However, it seems that perhaps that Lucy's mother is not telling the truth. Is she somehow involved in her daughters disappearance? It is up to Detective Josie Quinn and the FBI to find the child and bring her home alive.
A great story, with enough twists and turns to keep a reader on their toes. It was my first introduction to the Josie Quinn series and I will certainly be reading books 1-5.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
I gave the Book 4.5 Stars
I enjoy the Josie Quinn series. It always holds my interest and is a page turner. I normally don't like books where young kids are the victims of crimes, or involved with a kidnapping like in this book, and this story is a little dark, but a good and interesting read. I look forward to the next book to see what happens in Josie's personal life. I say personal life so there are no spoilers:) This mystery is very good, and it's hard to deduce who dun it!
In the 6th book of the Detective Josie Quinn series, Lisa Regan has written another exciting and heart twisting story. While at the park with her deceased ex-husband's son, Josie has a front row seat for a mysterious child disappearance. A little girl manages to get off of the carousel before her mom and then seems to disappear into thin air. Josie immediately changes gears and takes charge of the scene. While the first instinct is to think the girl is lost somewhere, slowly evidence emerges to the contrary. It appears that someone has taken the girl, as dogs trace her scent to the park's fence and ends there, indicating she was put into a car. Josie and her team uncover a crime that was well-planned and carefully orchestrated. The twists and turns keep them (and us) guessing about what will happen next. What is the secret the child's mother is hiding? Why are people that she cares about being murdered? Will the get to the little girl in time? Alongside the demands of her career, Josie is also trying to work on her relationship with a fellow officer. Can Josie find a "happily ever after" for her personal life? We must wait until the next book.
This book kept me up most of the night. It was exciting, thrilling and really edge of your seat. The characters were believable and although the mother was flawed I still felt a certain empathy for her. There were lots of layers to this book and I would certainly recommend it and am now going to look for others by this author..
Thank you Lisa Regan, Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the chance to read and give an unbiased review.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Her Silent Cry by Lisa Regan. In the blink of an eye little blond-haired seven year old Lucy Ross goes missing while riding a carousel with her mother. The case of this missing child becomes more high stakes as bodies start turning up. Can detective Josie Quinn save this little girl? This book will keep you engaged until the end.
Although this is the sixth in a series, this is my first Detective Josie Quinn book and I have to wonder, how have I missed the prior ones? I couldn’t put it down! Now I need to go back and read the earlier ones in this series.
Josie is an intelligent, strong female protagonist. The fast paced plot had twists and turns and, in today’s world, was believable.
If you enjoy smart mysteries/ police procedurals, this is a must read.
Lisa Regan's Josie Quinn series is one of my absolute favorites! I cannot wait to read each novel, and they get better and better (really) as the books progress. Her development of Josie from the first book to discovering her family, and slowly discovering who she is and what makes her happy in incredible! And then, you have a solid mystery thrown in. Extremely well crafted and well written, Lisa Regan never disappoints. I can't wait to see what she does with Josie next.
A young girl is abducted from a park- no one saw a thing - her mother's dark past has come back to haunt her.
Fast paced, twists and suspense.
This is a series but could be read as a stand alone also.
It was a good thriller with plenty of twists and a flawed main character
thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book
