would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
a young girl disappears from the park she is playing in...one minute she was there the next she was gone...and nobody can understand how she disappeared in front of everyone....
a complex tail with enough drama and intrigue to keep you reading...though i did miss more of the interaction with the other members of the team as it seemed to be more quinn than anyone else...she even outdid the fbi..... a one woman show...
but on the whole another brilliant book from this author
Number 6 in a series I wasn’t even aware existed and now I have to download the previous five. I enjoyed this missing child thriller and it certainly is a stand-alone story but I probably should have read the earlier novels for more background on Josie Quinn, who seems a brilliant detective but rather flawed woman - my kind of hero.
Her Silent Cry finds Detective Josie Quinn working a missing child case. When the case becomes an apparent abduction, Josie leaves no stone uncovered to find the truth when the child's mother is covered with lies up to her neck. In typical Josie Quinn mystery fashion, the story draws you in and keeps you hanging on with every twist and turn. I love Josie's dogged focus on the cases as her personal life just provides the background story that will always leave me coming back for more. My voluntary, unbiased review is base upon a review copy from Netgalley.
This is book six in the series and I have read them all. This was just as good as the previous book with a tense and gripping storyline that kept me on the edge of my seat. The tension never let up throughout the book and I finished it in no time. The characters are great and I always look forward to catching up with them with each instalment.
I always get excited when a new Lisa Regan book comes out - especially when it is a Josie Quinn story. Can't believe this is number 6 in this series already. In my opinion this series keeps getting stronger with each book. I love getting to know Josie and the people she works with, her family and what makes her tick. There was not a lot of this in Her Silent Cry but there was glimpses and I hope that book 7 will take this further. Once again this was a fast read for me, a quick paced police procedural that is in no way predictable.
Josie is at the local park on a day off when 7 year old Lucy Ross disappears from the carousel ride - under the noses of her parents and many other witnesses. Did she wander off or did somebody take her? Josie immediately starts a search to find her. After hours of searching she locates Lucy's backpack with a note to her parents "Answer your phone or your sweet darling will die" The next day the parents receive a call from what they think is Lucy's nanny only to find it is the kidnapper - and the nanny is dead. Now the people close to the family are in danger and the parents need to confront their past to find their daughter.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and in no way biased.
Another fantastic book by Lisa Regan continuing the story of Detective Josie Quinn.
This had me hooked from the outset. Clever storyline that held my attention through to the end.
So looking forward to Josie’s next adventures.
4.5 stars
Fantastic intriguing storyline from Lisa Regan. Detective Josie Quinn, aided by the FBI, resolve this kidnapping/abduction of a six year old child. Keeps you turning the page well past midnight and into the early hours! Great read
When a Lisa Regan book comes out, I drop everything and start devouring the novel!
This one was no exception! I started reading it the minute I was approved, and read it in only a couple days. When a child goes missing at the same time that Josie is in the park with Harris, Josie being the amazing detective she is, gives it her all to solve this disappearance.
Josie is absolutely one of my all-time favorite characters, she’s so strong and cares so much about her friends and family, even after everything she’s been through she became the most amazing person. Josie is not the only one I adore either, I’ve come to really love all the main characters in these stories; Noah, Gretchen, Trinity, Misty! I really feel like this series is underrated, I’ve become quite obsessed with this series throughout the years!
The only thing I was slightly bumped about was that there was less talk about Josie’s relationship with Noah and her family. This book was more about solving the mystery of the missing child, which was highly unpredictable and a total page-turner!
I just really love the usual character development added throughout these books, but it was also nice to see that everything was going good with Josie and she was just focusing on finding the missing child.
Amazing writing and storytelling as usual! So happy that the series keeps on going! I am already impatiently waiting for the next book.
I am a huge fan of the Detective Josie Quinn series and always await anxiously for the next installment in this riveting series. Her Silent Cry is slightly less creepy than some of the previous stories (creepy being a good thing) however, it does not fail to keep the reader engaged and wondering what's going to happen next. The premise of the story is that a little girl named Lucy disappears at a park where Josie is playing with baby Harris. Josie goes right into cop mode and realizes that somehow little Lucy was able to disappear off of the carousel right in front of her own parents with neither seeing where she went. Did Lucy wander off or was she abducted and if she was abducted, why does it seem that Lucy went willingly? The mystery leads us into the life of Lucy's stressed mom Amy, who seems to have some hidden secrets. Is Amy part of the plan to kidnap Lucy? As usual, this is a well crafted mystery with enough red-herrings to lead the reader astray. There are two things that would have made this novel a bit stronger to me. First, I'd like to see some more interaction and romance between Josie and Noah. I feel like their relationship needs to be fleshed out so that we root more for them as a couple. Also, I would like to see more interaction between Josie and the family she never knew she had, in particular her twin sister. It always seems like her sister sweeps in to try to get the "story" and helps Josie on the way but their relationship does not seem to get any deeper. This book is definitely worth the read!!!
Her Silent Cry is another great storytelling adventure from Lisa Regan. Detective Josie Quinn is at the local park with baby Harris (her friend's son) when a little girl goes missing. Lucy Ross is just 7 years old and the race is on to find her. Did she just wander off or was she snatched? As the hours pass what starts out as a missing child gets more sinister. Are Lucy's parents being completely honest or are they hiding something? A thoroughly enjoyable thriller with plenty of twists along the way. Thank you Netgalley for my advance copy.
This is the 6th book in the Josie Quinn series and even though this could be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading them in order. Not only do you get more out of the book if you know the characters' histories, but it is also one of my absolute favourite series and not one of the books disappoints.
I love the fact that we get to really know Josie throughout the series. We get a look into her personal life without it being tedious or overshadowing the main storyline. I also enjoy getting to know the lovable secondary characters like Noah, Trinity, Misty and Gretchen. We also get to find out how Noah & Josie are coping after the trauma from the last book and find out what happened on that fateful night with Luke.
With regards to the kidnapping storyline, I was absolutely hooked. The tension kept me guessing and totally engrossed. I could not put it down. I thought it was such a clever yet devastating back story. Most of the book is from Josies POV with a few chapters from a mystery person. I did find these chapters a little bit confusing at first but it is all explained in the end and adds to the emotions running through the book.
If you love a tense and gripping read with a lovable lead then I highly recommend checking out this series. Lisa Regan has quickly become one of my favourite authors and the Josie Quinn series is top of my list.
Another amazing book in the Josie Quinn series! The mystery grabs you in from the start as a young girl, Lucy, somehow disappears before everyone's eyes in a public park. One second she's there on the carousel with her mother, the next - vanished. Even when Josie and her team discover how that part happened, it's just the beginning and you are already hooked!
You'll find yourself turning page after page to determine who took Lucy and why. Every time Lucy's parents are contacted by the kidnapper, they quickly locate where the call came from and then happen upon a dead body.
Not just a random stranger, but a close friend of Lucy's family. Everyone involved seems to have their own secrets and as the authorities get deeper into the kidnapping, more connections are discovered and more questions are raised.
I can't say enough how much I enjoyed this book. Side note that I'm happy Josie's boyfriend Noah admitted how awful he was to her in the previous installment because that had bothered me! We also get to hear more about Josie's fateful evening with Luke... I just can't wait for the next book - Lisa Regan's writing is seriously addictive!
On a rare day off Josie takes her nephew to the park, whilst chatting to the parents of a little girl they suddenly notice their daughter is no longer with them, so begins the race for Josie to locate their daughter
A chilling read
Lisa Regan is one of my favorite authors. Once I start one of her books it's so hard to put it down! This book was no exception. I dont think I could ever get enough of this series. It gets better with every book!
A highly enjoyable novel. Enjoyed it very much. Excellent narrative and wonderful depiction of the characters. Highly recommended!
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Silent Cry’, sixth in the Detective Josie Quinn series written by Lisa Regan, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Josie takes her friend’s young son to Denton City Park playground and stops to speak to Colin and Amy Ross who are there with their seven-year-old daughter Lucy. Amy and Lucy go on the carousel but when the ride finishes Lucy can’t be found. Despite being searched for by Josie and every available officer at the Denton Police Department there’s no sign of Lucy and the FBI are called in to help. A man calls requesting money but each time he makes contact he uses the phone of one of Amy’s friends whose bodies are then found. It soon becomes clear that he wants to cause as much pain to Amy as possible but what is there in her background that can cause someone to hate her so much?
‘Her Silent Cry’ is a powerful police thriller that’s been brilliantly written with twists and turns and a cleverly thought-out plot that becomes more chilling as the story progresses. I like the character of Josie who’s feisty and strong-willed, and I’m glad her relationship with Noah is progressing well. I found it impossible to put down and when I reached the end it had a nail-biting conclusion that took me completely by surprise. This is an amazing novel that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading and can wholeheartedly recommend.
Another of my favourite authors and I love this series. I can't believe that this is the sixth in the fantastic Detective Josie Quinn series. Little seven year old Lucy disappears from a family park. Her parents are frantic. Okay a kidnapping but SO much more. A deadly game of cat and mouse, a ransom that nobody collects. What does this person want? What is Amy her mother hiding? It is up to Josie and her team with the help of the FBI to catch the perpetrator and bring Lucy home safe. The clock is ticking. I read this book in one sitting, hooked from the first page, spent most of this read sat on the edge of my seat. In places I was shocked but kept on reading I HAD TO KNOW. A crime thriller par excellence I did not want this book to end. An easy five stars and so Highly Recommended, hell no this is a MUST READ and I can't wait to read the next instalment of Detective Josie and her team.
I would like to thank the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
I would like to thank Netgalley for an advance copy of Her Second Cry, the sixth novel in the Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan.
Her Silent Cry is the sixth novel in Lisa Regan’s Detective Josie Quinn series. Although you don’t have to read the books in order, as each book’s case is standalone, I highly recommend reading them in publication order for the character development. This book revolves around a child kidnapping which happens right in front of Josie.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, it was a tense read with some good twists and turns. Although whether Amy was kidnapped because of her father or her mother was meant to be part of the mystery, I had which parent pegged from the start. I really enjoyed the journey of reading the novel and trying to guess the who/what/why. The twists come so quickly they could leave you with whiplash and the unsub’s motive is unknown which raises the stakes; the tension and urgency of the search motivate you to keep turning the page! I read this book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down. I will say that with the stakes as high as they were I was REALLY frustrated with one character who wasn’t truthful or forthcoming, by the end of the book I wanted to smack them. The family involved in the kidnapping is definitely in need of therapy by the end of the book and honestly I’m not sure that family has a happily ever after in their future!
I like Josie Quinn because she is a smart, empathetic, dedicated career woman who has a partner that supports her and her career. And over the course of the last five novels has found a work-life balance that works for her and her relationship. In the very first book I wasn’t sure I actually liked her but after six books, and seeing her journey and growth, I really love Josie.
I love the romantic suspense genre. The appeal to me is I don’t just want a whodunit. I like learning about the protagonist’s life, meeting their family and friends, and see their non-work life. I like seeing the romantic relationship develop and grow. Lisa Regan is definitely on my top ten list of favourite authors for this genre and I highly recommend this series if you haven’t read it yet.
Wow this book had me on the edge of my seat holding my breath. It was full of tension, angst and darkness. Absolutely loved it and found it very hard to put down. I love this series and I feel that each book is getting better than the last, it’s Lisa Regan at her best. I recommend you read the series in order as there is a lot of background history with the characters. All of the books are great so you won’t be disappointed. Her Silent Cry definitely gets 5 stars from me it was awesome.
I didn't realise until I started reading the book, this was the 6th one, this didn't spoil the enjoyment of the book, a couple of things are referred to as having happened previously but book still flowed without me having to wonder what had happened.
Josie Quinn is at a local park with her friend's son and starts chatting to a couple and their 7 year old daughter who then disappears into thin air after a carousel ride with her parents.
There is also a separate story about domestic/child abuse which seems to be a separate story but is all that it seems?
I really enjoyed this book, it flowed well, was well written and had interesting characters.
Recommended and would read others by this author.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the chance to read the book in exchange for an honest review.
