I was hooked by the premise of this book: The survivor of a murder attempt/crime scene photographer Harper Reynolds gives up her career in order to rebuild her peace of mind by becoming a landscape photographer. But it seems she can't leave her old life far behind her when's out in the country photographing and she accidentally captures a murder being committed. Fleeing in terror she loses the camera, and with it, the evidence. And when she reports what she has seen, the Sherrif's Department can find no trace of any violent attack...
Heath McKade is an ex Green Beret, now a reserve deputy, who ends up being put on protection detail for Harper.

This is a strongly written book with great settings and lots of pace. The initial storyline is excellent, but I did find Harper annoying at times, personally! And she's a 'camera loser' - she manages to lose three, the first in a crevasse as she makes her escape, the second in a car accident, and the third is seized by law enforcement. OK, I grant you that she couldn't necessarily help two of the three...!

But the settings are tremendous and really enable you to feel immersed in the countryside and towns of Wyoming, and the romance is nicely written. I really prefer suspense to romance, and this book provides plenty of the former!

From the moment you read the first word you are hooked into the story Elizabeth Goddard weaves! You are on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what is going to happen next. How much can happen while out photographing Grizzly Bears? A lot! Add in Rekindled friendships and a sibling who writes suspense for a living but seems like you’re both living in one… you are in for a treat!

I was not familiar with Elizabeth Goddard prior to receiving a copy of
Always Look Twice for review. Once I learned that it was part of a series, I decided to purchase the first book of her Uncommon Justice series, Never Let Go. I read Never Let Go first, in order to determine the flow of the series, and was pleased to find that Ms. Goddard had great continuity of the series, while maintaining the integrity of Always Look Twice as its own storyline.
It could be read as a stand-alone, but I am very glad I didn’t.

As childhood friends torn apart by tragic circumstances, Heath and Harper are thrown together again as adults in a tragic situation. It felt like this scenario could have easily become a sloppy tangle of premature or undeveloped emotions, and I was worried that this might happen.
Therefore, I was quite pleased that Ms. Goddard did a great job of balancing the childhood familiarity with the timid miasma of emotion tied to the circumstances of their reunion. The suspense is well written, and the romance is tastefully and artfully done. While there are times in the unraveling of the mystery that get a bit confusing, I am not sure I can consider this a problem; I feel that the confusion served to help me relate to the frustrations of Heath, Harper, and those involved in the investigation.

I look forward to reading the final installment of the Uncommon Justice series, Don’t Keep Silent, upon its release. The character development of the McKade brothers, the dynamic of their relationships with each other, and romantic suspense of their endeavors have certainly grasped my interest!

Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard is Christian suspense at its best. The book starts off in the most suspenseful way-- and it never lets you go! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre. I have read other books by this author and I can tell you that this book is just as good as her previous works. This book, with the premise of almost being caught by a killer but leaving behind her camera-- it's so good! Pick it up-- you won't regret it! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Another riveting romance suspense novel by author Elizabeth Goddard that I couldn’t put down! Amazing characters, steady suspenseful plot which kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

I liked reading about Harper’s love for taking pictures (especially in chapter 1 as she’s taking pictures in the wild) and how it has helped her cope with life’s struggles and experiences. I also liked Health’s strong character and his willingness to help and protect others.

Action packed, clean romance story with elements of faith and letting go of the past. HIGHLY recommend this book and this series! I LOVED it!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

An enjoyable read and entertaining romantic suspense. The author is creating a series with recurring characters outside Jackson Hole. In many ways this book felt like a mini-vacation, but one I'd never want to take since the heroine and hero are on the hunt for a murderer and a bomber. I very much enjoyed my time with these characters.

Loved this fast-paced book. I could not put it down for fear something might happen while I was away. It really moved quickly and I loved it!

I have to admit I figured out who the bad guy was before we were supposed to but it did not detract from the book. This was an amazing read. Lots of suspense and lots of mystery going on here.

I fell in love with the main characters. Harper has so much mystery around her and you really want to work harder to peel back the layers faster so you can find out what really happened all those years ago when she was a child.

And then you have Heath. We briefly met him in the first book of the series. Which is also another amazing book. I did read book one first when it came out and then read this one now. You don't have to read them in order but they're amazing and why would you not want to?

Get yourself the series and plan a good night of reading. But make sure you lock the doors and close the curtains or you might get a little paranoid.

Although this is the second book in the series, it can definitely be read as a standalone as I had not read book #1 and had no problems understanding the plot or the connections between the characters. Harper Reynolds is a former crime scene photographer who is enjoying her visit to Wyoming and is taking photos of the Grand Tetons when she suddenly sees a murder occurring and photographs it. Naturally, her being a witness to the crime puts her in the crosshairs of the perpetrator. Along with a rancher/deputy sheriff named Heath McKade, Harper is determined to solve the crime before she ends up being a victim. The action is fast-paced and is definitely heart-stopping in places. The mystery is well-developed, with many clues along the way to help the savvy mystery buff solve the case along with Harper and Heath. Secrets from the past are adequately linked to present events so that the story makes a full and satisfying circle. Fans of books with family, faith and a theme of second chances will really enjoy this latest book by Goddard and just like me will look forward to the next book in the series.

Always Look Twice is book two from Elizabeth Goddard’s Uncommon Justice series. I enjoyed the first book, Never Let Go, and this one does not disappoint. Even though they are part of a series, they can be read as a stand-alone. But I do recommend reading them both. I loved Heath and Harper teaming up in this one. They are involved in quite the adventure. I could not have predicted what was going to happen next.

I am giving Always Look Twice four and a half stars. I look forward to the third installment from the series, Don’t Keep Silent.

Story Notes

Elizabeth Goddard presents readers with her second book in the Uncommon Justice series that has great characters and a wonderful plot but misses the mark in it’s telling.

I really liked so much about this story that I was sad to give it a lower rating. From the very likable characters to the excellent plot lines and writing, it was a really great story….until about 2/3 of the way through. The depth of the story seemed to drop out and the ending felt rushed after that. And the ends of several threads that were winding very well through the story were ended with sharp conclusions that did not satisfy my curious brain in any way. But let’s talk about the good parts of the book. The story begins with a young woman named Harper who has been traveling the country with her sister, seeing all the famous landmarks and photographing wildlife. She is taking a break from her normally gruesome job of crime scene photography to clear her mind and recenter her brain on the positive aspects of life. Harper has been looking for an opportunity to photograph a Grizzly bear and today seems to be her lucky day……until she unintentionally witnesses a murder. Knowing the murderer saw her too and praying she can get away, Harper grabs her gear and heads towards her vehicle. Injuring herself on her way out causes her to drop her camera and the evidence she photographed. And when the sheriff arrives to search the area, Harper is stuck trying to answer skeptical questions from all the officers. The unexpected arrival of a her childhood best friend and volunteer deputy Heath McKade brings Harper both relief and odd feelings. She hasn’t seen Heath in a long time and their parting was less than ideal given the upheaval of both their young lives. But when Heath is assigned to protect her as a witness, Harper will finally get the chance to tell him what happened all those years ago. They form a new tenuous friendship and begin to piece together the crime committed and the time line. As they dig further into what happened, danger comes swift and vicious into both their lives. The race to figure out the culprit moves to top speed as they try to keep everyone safe without losing their own lives. And if they make it out of this alive, they might have a chance at a future together. So, as you can see, there is a great amount of good content here and some characters to root for. And, truly, the first 2/3 of the book was very well done and engaging. I just wish the rest of it was as carefully crafted. The solution was so out of left field and the lead up to it was pretty unconvincing. There should have been much more information “discovered” earlier in the book so that the ending matched the story better. I will recommend the story as it was good overall but with the warning of an odd ending. Hopefully this will be just a one off for Ms. Goddard and the next book will jell better.

Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard is the second book in the Uncommon Justice series. Though it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone novel with slight spoiler for the first book.
Harper Reynolds while taking a leave of absence from her job and unwilling captures a murder with her camera and runs into childhood friend Heath McKade. It becomes his job to protect her.
This was a medium paced suspense novel that almost like a game of cat and mouse. I hadn’t read a suspense novel before it kept me turning the pages to find out what happened.

Harper Reynolds has returned to her childhood home of Wyoming. A crime scene photographer, she has seen too much and needs a break. Her sister is traveling with her and they are enjoying a peaceful year. Then one day, Harper sees something she shouldn't have and now it's a race to solve a crime before the criminal takes her out.

The last book was genealogy and this one is photography. Both have connection to me, so I think that is super fun. I liked that the characters had a past connection and how they had helped each other through tragedies as children. They had so much baggage though, more so than most characters do, I think.

Goddard did a great job making you wonder about suspects. I kind of wish Austin and Willow had been in a bit more, but there was plenty of Liam and I am so curious to read his story.

A lot of this book was spent inside a character's head, which really helped you understand motivation, even if they didn't totally understand it themselves.

Woo-hoo. This is a good one.

I read the first book in this series and it was okay but to me this one was amazing. I really liked it (if you can’t tell).

The mystery of what was going, what happened to Harper’s camera so she could prove she really did see a murder, kept propelling me through the book. Who was behind the murder and why? Which we do get to see the POV of the murderer, which always makes things interesting.

The slow, sweet romance between Harper and Heath was just as engaging as the mystery, too.

If you are a romantic suspense fan I am sure you will want to pick this book up and read it.

A thrilling, suspense, with non-stop action, and romance set against the rugged beauty of Wyoming.

Harper Reynolds is an ex-crime scene photographer, who accidentally captures a murder on film while taking pictures in the Grand Tetons. She flees the scene, but the killer sees her, and then she loses her camera.

Reserve Deputy Heath McKade is brought on to help protect Harper after she takes her story to the county Sheriff's department. But can they catch the killer and find the camera, before it's too late?

Harper and Heath grew up together, but after her father was murdered they moved away and haven't seen each other since. Harper was strongly affected by what happened, and has always wondered if things might have happened differently if she hadn't been so scared. Harper is very skilled at her job, but the emotional toll can be overwhelming at times. She is determined to do the right thing, and is glad to have Heath at her side again to help her solve the crime.

Heath was one of my favorite characters from the previous companion book. He is ex-military, and skilled in high risk situations. He and Harper were best friends as children, and he stands by her side, and believes her even when no one else will. He admires her strength and dedication to seeing this through to the end.

I loved the fast-paced plot, filled with action and page-turning suspense. There was good tension, and character interaction between Harper and Heath. I liked that there was a strong backstory, and a beautiful setting. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't as much for faith conversations as in the previous book, but still a good book! A well written, page-turner, about courage and doing the right thing.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Elizabeth Goddard has done it again! So many spectacular lines and scenes throughout this book make it a can’t miss for romantic suspense readers.

After being a crime scene photographer, the pictures she has taken along with the trauma of her past force Harper Reynolds to take a year off to focus on some of the more beautiful things she can photograph. Traveling the country with her sister and taking pictures of national parks has been the serenity she needed to sooth her soul. Their last stop before heading home is in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Harper is taking pictures of a bear when she captures a murder. Fearing for her life, she takes off running and loses her camera with pictures of the murder in the process.

Heath Mckade is taking tourists from his ranch around the mountains when he hears shots break out and finds Harper. He is also a reserve deputy for the county and is surprised to find his childhood friend back in the area and in danger. When the sheriff goes to investigate, they can’t find any evidence of a crime and they start to wonder if Harper imagined the entire thing. Together, Heath and Harper must work to prove she saw what she said she did and also to find a murderer before anyone else gets hurt.

Elizabeth Goddard has crafted another great tale of romance, suspense and intrigue. I loved the way she crafted the characters of Harper and Heath and their interactions. Heath I really loved; Harper was great except for the way she let the past drag her down so much. It took away from her as a character and her potential strength. I absolutely loved the line , “She focused her camera on the killer, taking a kill shot of her own.” It was brilliantly done and made the book. Harper was a strong character and other than focusing on the hardships of her past she did grow throughout the story and ended up a character I was rooting for. We can all get stuck focusing on the past and if we do that it can cause us to miss the most wonderful things God has in store for us in the present and future. The suspense was great and the romance hit at just the right moments to make a great story. I would recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense and fans of Goddard. Even if you haven’t read the first in the series this would be a great one to pick up and enjoy.

This is book two in the Uncommon Justice series, however I feel it is a stand alone book. I enjoyed this suspenseful action packed novel. There are many twist and turns and mysteries to solve. I loved the sparks and friendship between Heath and Harper. Both have tings to overcome and learn about themselves.

Will her past eliminate their future...permanently?

Another exciting book in the Uncommon Justice series from the talented pen of Elizabeth Goddard! Always Look Twice is the second book in the series taking place a few months after the first the book and following in the same tradition of lots of danger and romance.

Always Look Twice starts off with a bang, the kind that means murder, and takes readers on a wild ride of betrayal, murder, and secrets from the distant past. It was an interesting read, Elizabeth Goddard kept me guessing, and I especially loved the wilderness setting of the Grand Tetons.

The Uncommon Justice series follows the three McKade brothers. In this one Heath McKade and Harper Reynolds are both tormented by violence in the past, perceived failure, and regret. Both of them have to decide if the will let it paralyze them or whether they will let love and faith help them heal. And, they have to survive and catch a maniacal killer while doing so.

If you enjoy romantic suspense where the threads of past secrets affect the present this might be the series for you. Always Look Twice continued to build on the mystery surrounding the McKade's father, and, I for one, cannot wait to find out if they solve it in Elizabeth Goddard's next book...

Always Look Twice – by author Elizabeth Goddard – Filled with Mystery, Intrigue and Action

As someone who loves to read mysteries, I really liked reading Elizabeth Goddard’s newest book Always Look Twice the second book in her Uncommon Justice series. There was so much to like about this book, starting with the characters. But what first drew me in to Always Looks Twice was the opening scene.

Crime scene photographer, Harper Reynolds, has taken a much need break because of the toll that her work has taken on her. She and her sister Emily have been traveling to National Parks and are finishing up their travels in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where they lived as children. Harper has been photographing the beauty found in nature only to have that beauty marred by witnessing a murder through her camera lens. In her quest to escape she lost her camera, a memory card, her phone and was injured. So, when Harper reports the crime she witnessed, there’s no corroborating evidence to be found. Will the Sheriff believe Harper? Will law enforcement diligently investigate the crime she witnessed? What will happen when she is reunited with her childhood friend Heath McKade?

I really liked the main characters in this book. They are interesting, kind and caring and people and because of that I was invested in their story. Harper and Emily carried emotional scars from trauma in their childhood and they dealt with its lingering effects quite differently. I especially like the friendship between Harper and Heath. They were friends in a pivotal time in their lives and now they are reunited.

One of the things I liked best about Elizabeth Goddard’s writing is her ability to write a scene so the reader can imagine it in their head. She does it without being too wordy. Reading the story was almost like watching a movie. I appreciated that the story was clean, there was no profanity or sexual immorality. There was some mention of the character’s faith. I would like to have seen even more the faith aspect of the character’s lives.

If you like mystery, intrigue, and action I would encourage you to read Elizabeth Goddard’s new book Always Look Twice. This one kept me guessing until the end. This is the first book I’ve read by Elizabeth and I look forward to reading more of her books.

I would like to thank Revell Publishing for the opportunity to read Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard. I was provided a complimentary copy of the eBook through NetGalley. I was under no obligation to give a favorable review.

On the opening pages of Elizabeth Goddard's latest tale, Always Look Twice, you will sense the suspense that fills the pages of this book. Harper Reynolds is in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, taking photographs of the nature that fills the Bridger-Teton National Forest. As Harper is focused on taking a photo of a grizzly bear, out of the corner of her eye, she sees a flash of pink, it is a woman who seems to be running for her life. Harper also sees a brief image of a man with a gun, who suddenly takes a shot at the woman. When Harper sees the woman fall to the ground, she runs for her own life!

The next person Harper encounters is Heath McKade, who is leading a group of tourists through the forest. Heath, being a former Green Beret, heard the shot and came running. Little did he know he would encounter Harper, a friend he had not seen since grade-school. Now she is a full-grown beautiful woman!

Heath and Harper soon team-up to try to discover what actually happened in the forest. The situation gets more complicated when explosions start happening around town. Are they connected? Hang on to see what Heath and Harper finally discover, and if their former friendship will grow into something even greater!

Uncommon Justice #2

Harper Reynolds is the star in this soft suspense/modern day romance story and Deputy Heath McKade, a childhood friend, is called to keep an eye on our heroine.

In a few words:

Harper has traded her job as a crime scene photographer for the serenity of the outdoors in Jackson Hole Wyoming but things did not turned as she wished when she captured a murder being committed and had to flee the scene in fear….Now someone is out to silence her. When the sheriff’s department cannot find any evidence of the murder she had witnessed both Harper and Heath are determined to try to put pieces of the crime together and keep safe.

My thoughts:

I’m not a Romantic Suspense fan. This type has always been a hit or miss genre for me but since I read the first book I had to give this one a go. Mostly not my cup of tea but who knows curious as I am…..

This story drew me in at first with some of the exciting scenes but in the long run I found the tempo became lethargic and seemed to be turning in circle for many chapters till we reached the final pages where everything sprang into action and provided enough suspense with twists and turns and finally we had some excitement. Along the way, we have a scene or two that had me almost holding my breath…. (I let you discover them) Done beautifully is on concealing the identity of the “who” till the last moment. Leaving the fun for us to figure out who really was behind all this excitement.

The characters are interesting, likable and well rounded. Their struggles seemed real although I did get frustrated by how much they focused on the past but it was nice that they finally moved on by the end and allowed to find healing. Awe…. and a budding romance….

The story has a good message of faith, caring for people and second chances all said in a style that is clean and smoothly narrated to make it an easy and pleasant read.

“Always Look Twice” is a novel I both appreciated and enjoyed, I also struggled to keep my attention at bay but I failed to do so in too many places to say this novel was the best book I had read in a long time. But in whole, it is well-done.
