Jason Reynolds can do no wrong. This is probably my least favorite of his, which still means that it ranks leaps and bounds above most other books . . . just not other JR books.

This graphic novel was timely and well-drawn, definitely worth the money and the hype, and I hope will be successful!

This is my first Jason Reynolds book, and I have heard nothing but great things about his books. I really enjoyed this one, especially how it was set up with 10 short stories. Middle grade books are so great because they put tough topics in enjoyable stories. So many kids can relate to these stories. I would definitely recommend this to schools and libraries!

Multi character along the way story. I would pair this with some Jason Reynolds interviews/ speeches. He brings to life his thinking in video format really well and that added context and connection would give this book more pull in the classroom.

I adore Jason Reynolds but couldn't get passed the booger incident in this story. Purchased for my ya/middle grade collection.

Look Both Ways was such an interesting read, I won’t soon forget it. Reynolds masterfully weaves characters together, block by block. Each chapter introduces the reader to a middle school student making his or her way home from school. And while it seems these students have little in common, they are all connected by their hopes, fears, and goals to get home safely. Experiencing Look Both Ways had me cheering students on, while grieving for others, and crossing my fingers hoping that they all got home unscathed. I appreciated how the author’s storytelling kept me at the edge of my seat until finally giving a sigh of relief at the end of each chapter. I believe children of all ages (and adults, too) will enjoy this read. I will definitely share Look Both Ways with my children and others.

I am a HUGE fan of Jason Reynolds but this novel just didn't work for me. I found the short stories missing elements and it was a struggle for me to finish the book. I am super excited about his new graphic novel for A long way down. That was an amazing book. Jason is an incredible writer for teenagers in todays age of racism etc. Thank you for being incredible although I didn't like this book.

Look Both Ways is an amazing book filled with short stories that all connect. I purchased a copy, and have been reading stories aloud to my students as frequently as I can. I teach 6-8th grade special education and all of my students love these stories.

Jason Reynolds is a genius. Even if you cannot relate to his characters in any way you still feel for them and want to know more about them and follow them through their journey. His book Long Way Down still haunts me to this day and when I met him at BookCon I really wanted him to tell me what happened next - he said it was up to me! This book is similarly structured with each block telling a new story that all interweave in the end. Can't recommend it enough!

This is the second book I have read by Jason Reynolds and let me say I am becoming a HUGE fan. As an educator I cannot help but wonder what lives my students go home to each day, so the premise of this story had me curious. Reynolds tackles some very difficult situations ranging from homophobia to parent illness. Each topic is handled in a non-trigger warning way, which is very refreshing. You think you know where the story is going and have an idea about each character, yet many stories leave you surprised at the end. The stories allow you the opportunity to stop and reflect on not judging someone based on how you know them to be in school. This book offers numerous opportunities for discussion either with your own children or middle grade students alike.

Jason Reynolds has delivered another strong middle grades novel. Each chapter is about a different child or group of children along one walk to their school. At first it seems like the stories are independent of each other but as you continue to read, they weave beautifully together and make you see some character that appeared in an earlier story in a completely different light. Jason Reynolds gift of capturing the voice of middle grade and young adult aged people shines and he elevates what they face in their lives past just being something that adults may see as trivial.

Another homerun from Jason Reynolds! He has the inside track to what kids want to read. My students are so stoked.
Thanks!

Ten short stories tell about the lives of different kids after their middle school day ends. With complex backstories and incredible depth of character development, Reynold’s fiction feels truthful… so much so that I’m so very glad that I’m not in middle school anymore. What kinds of topics are these kids dealing with? Bullying, fear of dogs, parents who have cancer, stealing, comedian goals, OCD, skateboarding, and friendships. Some stories are funny, some are serious, all ring true.

Thank you NetGalley and Atheneum for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. Jason Reynolds is one of my go-to authors. If he writes it, I read it. I really loved the concept of a story told through different perspectives/streets and it all taking place in one day. Writing a story that spans such little time has got to be difficult, but I love how Reynolds can do it. I did feel like the ending was disappointing as I was just waiting for some big moment...and was let down. However, I did enjoy and will recommend.

In true fashion, Jason Reynolds highlights the world of students' minds and motivations. As students go throughout their days both in school and out of school, we see that children can go through all sorts of big issues by learning to support each other, to become friends in the unlikeliest of ideas, and to learn how to be brave despite the normal reaction of fear. Although this is supposed to be for middle grade, the Young Adult generation will find stories to cherish as well. Because what Jason Reynolds book isn't poignant for all ages?

Told through ten different stories, Look Both Ways follows ten students from the same school as they head home after the bell rings. It's a creative and engaging way to show the vastly different lives classmates lead, and as always, Jason Reynolds' writing is so sharp. I love his use of metaphor, imagery, and language. I am curious how a young reader would respond to this book, but I definitely found myself crying by the last chapter.

Look Booth Ways is a book that tells of life that is all too real for too many of America's youth. You can find issues that range from parents with life threatening illness to a girl who is allowed to do stand up at the end of class each day if she will just make it through to the end of the period.
Ten stories in ten blocks, that seem so unrelated but are related more than we know, if we just look a little deeper. Great job Jayson Reynolds

Jason Reynolds does a great job of telling a powerful story in a concise way! This book of many characters with their interwoven stories will be one that is always checked out of my classroom! The characters are easy to connect to and my students will have a lot to talk about as they read this book!

Intertwined short stories are a hard craft to master, but if I trust anyone, it's Jason Reynolds. These are really well written, although like nearly any set of short stories, there are ups and downs. The characters do recur in the different stories, although because they are so short, they can be hard to track. That said, this book is well done enough that I immediately wanted to re-read it. I think this would be a fabulous class read aloud that deals with a lot of different kinds of kids in different situations.
