This is an adorable best friends to fake relationship to lovers story. It’s a fast read but well written with characters that are easy to fall in love with. It’s a nice easy breezy summer read that is sweet, fun and sexy. Lifelong best friends Noah and Carly are about to enter into new territory. They are so cute together and I just love how things work out for them!!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC!
I received an ARC from Netgalley and I am happy to give my honest review.
This was a really quick and fun read for summer. Noah and Carly have been best friends their entire lives. Noah lies to his boss about dating Carly to avoid behind set up at a wedding. Noah brings Carly to the wedding as his fake date and they quickly fall into bed together. They struggle to adjust back to their friendship when they get home but it all works out in the end.
It was cute, fluffy, summery, and low angst. I love friends to lovers and generally enjoy fake relationships so this book checked all the boxes. I wish there was a little more character building but that’s hard to do in such a short book.
Noah and Carly have been best friends since forever.
Noah has been telling his boss/friend about Carly for months and about how they have been dating for six months. Well guess who gets invited to his boss’ wedding? Yep - you guessed it!
Of course he has to bring his girlfriend. So he convinces Carly to be his faked girlfriend for the wedding.
Lol!
Yes, one thing does lead to another....
I greatly enjoyed this one! I do wish it was longer though.
I'm sorry but I'm with the other reviewer who felt the transition from "just friends" to "f*ckbuddies who are still thinking they're going to remain just friends" went way too fast. There was no ground work laid for an attraction to bloom from stage 1 to stage 2 that quickly. And then after the initial sex, both were still thinking that they'd have a friend relationship even after marrying a hypothetical other?? You've seen each other's "0" faces - there's no going back. And yeah, Noah continuing to sneak his hand onto Carly's butt got pervy. The writing has a lot of funny moments but not enough to undo my unease.
One Summer Weekend by Shannon Stacey is the first book in the Cedar Street series. It is currently scheduled for release on August 5 2019.
Noah Stafford loves his life—his happy, single life. So what if he made up a fake girlfriend to stop his boss’s matchmaking? He kept things close to the truth—Carly really does have long, sexy legs and a killer sense of humor. She just happens to be his best friend. His wicked awesome and completely platonic best friend. But now his boss is having a destination wedding, and Noah is expected to attend…with Carly, his girlfriend. Carly Randall has no interest in living out a rom-com plot. But Noah is her best friend, so she agrees to help. Still, once they arrive on Cape Cod, she can’t explain the sudden butterflies she feels when he looks at her that way. Or why she doesn’t mind when Noah’s hands stray a little south of her back. What happens on the Cape stays on the Cape. Except not really, not at all, and once their sexy faux-cation is over, Noah and Carly return to a reality where everything’s changed. Going for it would mean risking their friendship, but forgetting how good they were together just isn’t an option.
One Summer Weekend is a fun friend to lover novella that is sweet and enjoyable to read. Noah and Carly are best friends that share just about everything. Getting thrown together as a pretend couple instead of best friends shows bends and breaks the boundaries between them. I liked the banter between the two and how friends gave them just as much advise and ribbing as I would expect from close friends. The way they teased each other and valued their friendship was wonderful, and pulled me into the story. I found Carly and Noah's fears to be very realistic, and I was rooting for them from the very beginning. EAch of their individual freak outs were well done and in character- and I loved seeing them figure it out and find their way to happy ever after. I greatly enjoyed the ride, and will continue picking up new books from the author.
One Summer Weekend is a perfect single sitting or relaxing by the pool read. It is fun, sweet, and has just a touch of heat. Fans of the author are certainly going to want to read it, and newcomers to Stacey's work might become serious fans after this read.
Loved it! Romance after my own heart! I’ve always loved Shannon Stacey’s books. Carly and Noah’s relationship is something sweet. Best friends who fake a relationship for a wedding for Noah’s little lie he told to his and realize they are really each other’s soulmate after all. I couldn’t put it down and I can’t wait for the second one later this year!
Short and sweet and everything a friends-to-lovers romance should be! When Noah’s lie to his boss about Carly being his girlfriend catches up with him, he has no choice but to convince her to go to his boss’s weekend wedding with him. Although Carly’s cousin Zoe warns her that her life is about to resemble the romance novels Zoe is so fond of, Carly just laughs at the absurdity of it all…until their faked kiss results in real attraction. Can their What happens on the Cape stays on the Cape promise to each other stick or is Carly in for a mountain of heartbreak if she falls for commitment phobic Noah? Pick up One Summer Weekend and find out. Perfect for fans of Noelle Adams.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book from Carina Press through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

One Summer Weekend, by Shannon Stacey, was a cute, friends-to-lovers read that felt perfect for summer. Noah and Carly have been best friends forever. Carly agrees to help Noah by playing his fake girlfriend during his boss’s wedding at the Cape. Being affectionate with one another to convince the wedding party and guests isn’t as difficult as they expected. What they didn’t expect is the chemistry between them or how hard it might be to ignore it, so they don’t, and it has the potential to ruin their friendship forever.
For a novella-length book, Stacey did a pretty good job providing depth to the story. Noah and Carly were good people. I liked that they were honest with one another and talked about most things. The development of their feelings made sense, and the chemistry was definitely there. I wish that we’d gotten to see a little more detail from our MCs about the jump from lust to love, especially from Noah since it was so contrary to his prior beliefs about relationships.
Short and entertaing read, this is a friends to lovers story.
Noah needs his best friend Carly to pretend to be his girlfriend for the weekend of his bosses wedding. Very soon he starts to see her as more than a friend.
Noah Stafford told his boss he had a girlfriend to stop his boss' fiancé trying to set him up with girls. When making up a girlfriend of course you tell everyone it's your best friend Carly - one because it's the first name that springs to mind and two because you spend practically every waking moment of free time together.
Now Noah has been invited to his boss' destination wedding and he needs Carly to be his fake girlfriend, but when romance is in the air will these two friends find more?
This is a super short novella, its cute and fun but the length of the novella means that there isn't really any character development or plot development, even the resolution of the "issue" is a bit wham-bang thank-you ma'am.
Overall, it was pleasant but I wanted more.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

One Summer Weekend is the first book in Shannon Stacey's new Cedar Street series and this novella is a good start.
Noah and Carly have been life-long best friends and when Noah finds himself in need of a date to his boss' wedding, he calls on none other than his bestie. The kicker is that his boss and his bosses fiancee believe that he and Carly are a couple. In order to avoid being set up with the bride's sister, he tossed out he'd had a girlfriend for six months and he went with the one person he knew would bail him out!
When Noah and Carly get to the Inn for the wedding weekend on Cape Cod, they are forced to share a room and they begin seeing one another in a new light. The spark between them is there and they begin to question why they've never explored it before. When they do explore it, it's more than anything they could have imagined. Can these besties go back to being just that or have they found forever in each other?
Even though this was a novella, there was a lot of story packed into it. These two characters had such history and knew so much about one another that you wanted to root for them from the get-go even though they were concerned about messing with the most important relationship in each of their lives. Shannon Stacey did a great job with this sexy summer read!
Can men & women maintain best friendships without eventually succumbing to the cliche? Apparently not! Noah and Carly were totally adorable. Clueless but adorable! I enjoyed this novella. I'm looking forward to the next one!
One Summer Weekend was a fun, quick read. Noah enlists his beast friends help and needs her to be his girlfriend at his bosses wedding. Things change fast between Noah and Carly as feelings and emotions change. What a wonderful story
A quick and easy read. Carly and Noah are best friends who take a relationship at his bosses wedding. However, best friends become more and realize all they love about each other as friends wake them up to the fact that they make a perfect couple.
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher for my honest opinions.
One Summer Weekend, is a must read. It's not too long, so perfect for a warm, lazy summer weekend. It has a beautiful beach setting and best friends becomes more story. Perfect!
This was a very cute friends to lovers romance. Noah asks Carly, his BFF, to be his pretend girlfriend at a work wedding. Then their friendship is tested to see if it is just friends or something more. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC.
BFFs-to-lovers. Fake relationship. One bed. It's all of my favorite tropes, so there was no way I was going to pass up this novella!
ONE SUMMER WEEKEND was a quick, surprisingly steamy read by an author I haven't read in a couple of years. It featured a bookshop owner heroine and a commitment-phobe hero who have been BFFs since childhood. The setup was fantastic, the romance development was solid, but the end of the story fell flat for me. I think if it had been a full-length title, I would've loved it. As a novella, there just wasn't enough time for me to buy into the conflict that Noah was marriage-adverse and their lifelong friendship was at risk.
There was something about the writing style that also took me a while to settle in to. This surprised me, since I have read and loved this author's writing before. Again, this could be partly attributed to it being a novella instead of a full-length story, but I'd wished for less TELLING, particularly when it came to the conflict, and more SHOWING.
Thinking back to the first summer novella by this author that I'd read and loved (SLOW SUMMER KISSES), this one fell short of what I'd expected. I wanted to love it, it had all the ingredients for me to glom, and yet I finished it feeling less than satisfied.
That said, this is the start of a new series, and I'm excited to see what else is in store.
RATING: C+ (3½ stars)
This was a cute quick read. It worked being so short because the hero and heroine were already best friends. I really enjoyed their relationship and how grounded and real it was. The relationship seemed to develop naturally and was quite sweet.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't too crazy about this friends to lovers romance. Noah lies to his boss about having a girlfriend and he drags his best friend Carly to be his plus one when he can't get out of a wedding. Although they've been platonic friends for years Noah quickly builds a sexual interest for her and annonyingly starts to touch her butt without asking her all in the name of faking it for his boss. Even when no one is around he does it. Seemed pretty pervy to me.
I also didn't appreciate how quickly they jump into bed with each other. Just doesn't add up considering they showed no interest for each other in the beginning. Too many inconsistentancies to enjoy it.
Noah and Carly have been best friends for so long neither can remember when they first met. Noah’s boss is getting married and invited Noah. He was always talking about Carly so he said they were dating. Now he has to convince Carly to be his pretend girlfriend. After having a couple of drinks at the dinner before the wedding, they end up having sex. They decide what happens in the Cape stays in the Cape but can they go back to the way they were before sleeping together?
Great book about best friends becoming lovers. Carly is ready for commitment but Noah isn’t until he realizes it’s Carly he want forever with.
