Talk about some wicked characters!
Josh and Nora meet at a conference and begin an affair. Both of their marriages are full of trial and tribulations. So, both are seeking solace in each other. And as you can guess, these two eventually get caught and then the fun begins.
Gwen, Josh’s wife, is a piece of work. She is evil to the core! And you will need read this to find out how this ends because I did not see the ending coming! This is a twisty tale you do not want to miss.

I loved this book! Thank you for the ARC. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that I wasn’t leaving reviews on netgalley and was solely sharing on Instagram. My apologies. Huge fan of this author! I actually received the tangible copy. Trying to clean up my netgally account.

Thank you for the advanced copy of this book and sorry for taking so long to read.
A twisty, quick read - good story but I've read better.

We have some unlikeable characters and it took a while for me to really get into the story line.

There is some drama and a twisted love triangle that some may enjoy, but pretty middle of the road for me. Nothing that really shocked/surprised me or stood out as something original. Believe me, I kept waiting.....

Also, wasn't a big fan of how it ended.

I do enjoy this author and her writing style. She has a way of keeping you engaged to find out how things will end I do look forward to her next.

This was ok. It was a quick read which I liked. Would maybe be a good beach or pool read. Easy, quick, interesting. But nothing special

I am sorry for not reviewing fully but I don’t have the time to read this at the moment. I believe that it wouldn't benefit you as a publisher or your book if I only skimmed it and wrote a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for not fully reviewing!

The Review

One of the most intriguing murder mysteries of the year! Margot Hunt has done a fabulous job of creating a narrative that showcases the mystery of the murder while exploring the intimate lives and decisions of these families in a local community. Expertly crafting the tale to present the crime first, then spending the majority of the book showcasing the various individuals and acts that could lead to who committed the crime, the author creates a story that draws readers in instantly.

The story showcases that the world is not as black and white as most like to believe, and sometimes the path some take towards affairs come from troubled lives themselves, and their desperate need to find solace can start a chain reaction that leads to dire consequences. A complex cast of characters helps drive this narrative forward, with each suffering from their own internal and external problems that continue to help the situation spiral further and further out of control. In this story, no one is innocent, and even the victim herself hides a dark side to herself that could lead to who took her life.

The Verdict

This was an amazing read that fans of murder mysteries, dramas, and thrillers will absolutely love. With thematic and tonal qualities reminiscent of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, this new thriller is something fans will not want to miss out on this holiday season, so be sure to grab your copy of Margot Hunt’s The Last Affair today!

This book grabbed me from page one, where a grisly murder takes place, and did not let up for one single second until the very end when I found out which of several characters in this crazy, juicy thriller did the deed

Told from multiple viewpoints which is my favourite way of telling a tale I’m pretty sure there could be a sequel to this one. I’ve read a previous book by Ms Hunt and really enjoyed that. This was even better! Can’t say how much I loved this enough! 5/5.

Thank you to the publisher for my copy of this one - all opinions are my own.

Well, holy SMOKES this book starts off with a bang in the best way possible. I LOVE a book that just explodes from the start and this is a book that does exactly that! I was completely shocked by the first chapter (which opens with a murder of a pretty important character!) and from that point on I was sold on this book.

I would say that this is probably more of a slow burn domestic thriller but the entire story felt fast to me, simply because I was dying to find out what happened. I actually read this in one sitting for that very reason.

Plus this is a story with a cast of deeply unlikable characters, and I LOVE unlikable characters - they are always far more interesting than the good guys.

This is the perfect kind of binge read that makes for a perfect patio companion for the summer. A must for this year!

Did not finish - I could not connect with the plot or writing so I decided to put it down.

I am straight kicking myself for not reading this sooner. I saw it all over the place, bookstagram and twitter went crazy for it, but I didn't get around to it because I'm ridiculous.

I have never been a person that can easily root for cheating spouses, but I rooted for this couple the whole time. Their respective unhappiness, crazy spouses, and random meeting out of town, made the perfect setting for an affair that didn't bother me, but that I wanted to happen.

Abby was perfectly portrayed as the naive college student. Her mom is messed up and her heart is broken at a young age. I remember acting like a complete idiot when my heart was broken in college, so I can totally relate to this even though I wanted to shake her. Come to think of it, I would love to go back in time and shake my 18 year old self, tell her to grow up, stop wearing low rise jeans (early 2000s hit me hard.

The Last Affair was perfectly paced and brilliantly timed. I never once thought there was a pointless sequence in the book and honestly didn't want to stop reading. The Last Affair was like Gone Girl except I could root for this heroine and the crazy was at least offset by normal people.

The end of The Last Affair was spot on. I couldn't have asked for anything more interesting, surprising, or realistic. The romance played out as it should and we learn that crazy can be a combination of learned and genetics.

Thanks Netgalley for my copy!

I believe Margot Hunt is a seriously underrated Author. Her books are fantastic. Everyone that I have read has grabbed my attention and captivated me until the very end. In a place where one genre has become some over saturated, her books still manage to stand out. I love the way she weaves the story, how she keeps her readers guessing. Nothing is really simple or predictable. I cannot wait for more!

The story starts with the death of a woman then goes back to recount the events leading up to the murder.
A chance meeting while at separate conferences lead Nora and Josh into an affair that unravels both families. Gwen, Josh's wife ends up dead and anyone could be a suspect because everyone seems to have a motive.

RATING: 3 STARS
2019; Mira/Harlequin

The Last Affair starts with a murder and the goes back in time to show how the murder came about. With this we get many suspects, and all with good reason to kill Gwen Landon. Gwen Landon is a very unlikeable character, that midway through the story I wished she would go away. Then I would remember she was murdered, and felt bad, like I wished her dead. The suspects are her husband, Josh, who is no longer in love with her, and comes to resent her as he has an affair with a woman so unlike Gwen. The there is the woman, Nora who is having an affair with her husband, and wants to be away from her husband. Abby's daughter is also not a fan of her own mother, and you can toss in Nora's kids as suspects for having their lives unraveled. It doesn't stop there, there are also other women who have a crush on Josh (a dentist) who could be in the running for murder. It comes to a point when it seems like it doesn't really matter, and you are rooting for the suspects. A fun read, even if you figure out the suspect a bit early.

***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through Edelweiss & NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***

The novel starts off with the death of Gwen. and then flashes back six months in time to where Gwen's husband, Josh, has an affair with another woman who lives in their town, Nora. Both Josh and Nora are very unhappy in their marriages. Nora's husband, Carter, is an abusive alcoholic with a gambling problem, and Josh's wife, Gwen, is a narcissist bent on revenge on anyone she feels has wronged her. The book builds up to the day where the affair comes out, and Gwen is murdered by someone who is truly unhinged. While I enjoyed most of the plot, I was really disappointed by the ending of the book.

I have loved Margot Hunt's previous books and could not wait to read The Last Affair. Sadly, this one was not a favorite of mine. It is the story of a love triangle - plus one. The plus one is the couple's daughter who is home from university with some secrets of her own. I will not deny that this was a fast paced, thrill to the end read, but after reading it, I sat there thinking: what did I get out of this? Not a lot. Now, not every book has to be stellar and not every one has to be thought provoking. If you follow my blog or reviews then you know that I love a good cozy mystery and even some silly hilarious books. The Last Affair simply brought nothing to the table in originality, character development, or even a decent ending.

Because I have thoroughly enjoyed Hunt's previous novels, I am going to assume that this was a one off and we'll be back on the same page with her next read. Fingers Crossed.
