I thoroughly enjoyed Alexis Morgan's second book in the An Abby McCree Mystery series. I was engaged from the first page and the tension didn't let up. The characters are delightful and I got a sense of a small town in Washington and all it has to offer. The relationship development was well done and the why of the mystery was surprising. I highly recommend 'Death by Jack-o'-Lantern' and look forward to more.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Such a great cozy. It was a quick fun, light read. I love books set around holidays especially halloween, christmas, valentines, and the 4th. I love that this was set around a corn maze. This is only the third cozy I've found dealing with corn mazes (its something my children love to do every year at the pumpkin patch). I would read more by this author. I liked the characters. I liked the writing style. I would recommend this book to others.
I really enjoyed this! I feel like the characters and the town have been fleshed out in a really lovely way. Itโs a charming cozy.

I had read the first book in this series and was looking forward to reading more. This can be read as a stand-alone though. It was great to re-visit the characters and it was also a good cozy mystery.

Abby is collecting pumpkins for the Halloween Festival when she finds a murdered farmer in the middle of his corn maze. The Police (and some of the people in the town) believe that a homeless veteran is to blame and Abby and her tenant Tripp believe he's innocent.
Abby investigates whilst Tripp goes to prison as he won't reveal his friends whereabouts. There are some interesting characters and the plot flows well. A good cosy mystery.
This is a delightful mystery, second in Alexis Morgan's new Abby McCree series. Another murder has occurred in Snowberry Creek and Abby discovers the body. An entertaining cast of characters of this wonderful town help keep the story moving along, with some twists and turns along the way. An easy read, a captivating mystery, and enchanting characters make for a great return to Snowberry Creek. I look forward to more stories in this series.
I was looking forward to reading this one immediately after I finished Death by Committee! While waiting was hard, it was totally worth it! Alexis Morgan is quickly becoming one of my top favorite authors in the cozy genre and I am so excited for this series to keep growing!
This is the first time I have read this author and I really enjoyed this story. Abby the amateur detective in this story is something else she tends to find out things just being in conversations. It seems people want to pin a murder on a homeless veteran but you will not find out a hint of who it might be until almost the end.
This book was very well written. Nice and easy to read and flowed well. Had me on the edge of my seat. Wondering which way it was going to go. Great mystery canโt beat it.
If thereโs a Halloween festival in a book, Iโm going to read it.
This the second in the Abby McCree Mystery series with the first book being Death by Committee. In this book, Abby is volunteered for the planning committee. Part of her job is picking up an order of pumpkins from the local farmer. When she finds him, heโs dead in the corn maze. A homeless veteran who was seen arguing with the farmer who accused the veteran of trespassing and stealing pumpkins is the main suspect. Abby's tenant and love interest Tripp, who is also a veteran, is positive his friend is innocent.
Itโs a pretty standard cozy with a somewhat predictable conclusion but I donโt read cozies for the mysteries; I read them for the feeling of place. I enjoyed it. I donโt think I care for her relationship with Tripp though.
A story set around Halloween is already set up for success, but this book hits it out of the park. What you think is an easy going small town time is chalked full of a mystery that Abby finds herself right in the middle of and needing to solve before the murderer strikes again. A fun story with a well developed plot makes it a ready you can just get lost in.
This story is the second book in Abby McCree Mystery series. I was familiar with the first book andย already liked the characters. The mystery was kind of easyย to know the guilty part, but the author did made me guess if I was right until the end. Abby still donโt know what to do with her professional life after leaving her husband and is in charge of a few committees before Halloween. What I didnโt like was the artificial way that her and Tripp become apart because of his time in jail. Cozy mystery series seems to demand at least a book that the romantic interest is far away/ in jail / dealing with something and canโt hang out with the main character. I donโt think it helps the pace of the books but it seems to be a way to prolong the suspense about the romance. I also have a pet peeve with everyone saying something in the lines of this is not your business/ donโt go meddling in police business or some variation of the same in almost every chapter. We get it, the police should deal with the problem, is dangerous, there is no need to keep repeating this on and on. Also, I expect that Abby donโt become a PI just to have a reason to keep finding bodies. It seems more interesting if she uses her organization skills to make a life for her, maybe as an event management.ย All in all, I enjoyed the well-rounded story and my worries just show how I am looking for the next book.
Who doesn't love a Halloween cozy mystery?! Abby McCree and the town of Snowberry Creek, Washington are preparing for the Halloween Festival. Unfortunately, a death in the community has put a damper on the holiday anticipation. And Abby's tenant/love interest is in jail for obstruction of justice. Abby needs to keep all of her committee activities moving forward while trying to figure out how to help her tenant and the suspected murderer.
This was very well-written. It's the second in the Abby McCree Mystery series. I haven't read the first so that might be why I had so many questions at the start. Like, where does she get the money to not work? That is explained after more than the half-way point in the book. It might have been helpful to get a bit more detail up front. Also, I'm not sure I like Abby. She feels so overwhelmed by her schedule but she only serves on town committees and doesn't work. She even has time for naps. She also seems to have anger issues. However, it's a good mystery with interesting town characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book

This was a standard cozy mystery but it unfortunately just did not grab me.
It does follow unfortunately a formula that it is overused in cozies and it just left me underwhelmed.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of the book.
This story is another good entry in the Abby McCree Mystery series. Likeable characters-except the villain of course-a murder and a second mystery. The second mystery was easier to solve, but the murder of cranky Mr. Minter kept me guessing. Abby has her hands full since she's on a couple of committees before Halloween, and yet she finds herself drawn into the murder. Again. Tripp is there again and he and Abby are getting closer. An ex soldier, he reaches out to help another troubled soldier, proving what a good heart he has. All in all, I enjoyed the well rounded story filled with humor, heart and mystery written by talented author, Alexis Morgan.
I received an ARC of this story in exchange for my honest opinion thru the publisher and NetGalley.
4 stars
This newest installment of the Abby McCree series is intense and enjoyable at the same time. Alexis Morgan touches on homeless vets and it is a welcome inclusion.
I enjoyed this book very much and I recommend it. This book is fun an well written.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
Abby McCree Is busy working on multiple committees as a resident of Snowberry Creek and with Halloween looming, she and her fellow committee members are busy preparing for the festivities. Apparently so is a local resident who is carving pumpkins that resemble local residents. Itโs a fun mystery for the locals as they look to see has been immortalized next and try to figure out who the artist is.
A local pumpkin farmer isnโt too happy though as his pumpkins keep disappearing and he suspects a transient veteran of being the thief. When the farmer runs across the veteran in town he gets into a heated discussion with him and the police are called. When Abby takes one of her elderly friends to pick up some pumpkins from the farmer, Abby finds him murdered in the middle of the corn maze. Some locals believe the veteran that had an altercation with the farmer is guilty. Abby doesnโt believe it and her renter, Tripp, refuses to tell the detectives where to find the veteran and is jailed.
Abby being home alone is never a good thing when a murderer is on the loose and this time is no exception. While not actively looking to solve the murder, Abby is trying to get Tripp out of prison and she ends up finding the killerโฆand hopes she isnโt the next victim.
A good series that highlights small town life, challenges some of our veterans face, and the strength of friendship. Enjoyed this second book in the series and look forward to the next installment.
Death by Jack-o'-Lantern by Alexis Morgan is the second book in Abby McCree Mystery series but can be read as a stand alone.
Abby has settled in her little town and immediately taken over organizing many charity events. Her tenant and romantic interest Tripp is still highly mysterious especially when he disappears somewhere during the night.
One night Abby decides to follow him and finds out that he has been helping out Kevin, a homeless veteran who has been accused of stealing farmer Minter's pumpkins.
Soon after she discovers a body of an ornery farmer and .Kevin becomes person of interest.
Nice sequel to the first book,
Characters are developing further and their relationships are becoming deeper and more fulfilling.
I would like the relationship between Abby and Tripp develop into more intimate relationship.
Right blend of humor, mystery and suspense make it a nice read.
Alex has her plate full when her tenant volunteers her for another committee. Trying to get the fall festival going when Alex finds a body. Fun and quirky towns people. Surprised at who the murder was .suspenseful cozy mystery
