A sweet little book about life lessons from the point of view of Bob the cat. Easy to read, with inspiring and meaningful insights about life and finding silver linings.
I have been a fan of James Bowen and Bob ever since I stumbled upon A Street Cat Named Bob. Their story moved me... moved the world based on the countless translations and the fact that there is a movie based on their lives! I read The World According to Bob; I read A Gift from Bob; and now I have read The Little Book of Bob.
I am writing this review years after reading this slim tome, but the wisdom I gleaned from Bob and James's story through this book and all the others will remain in my heart forever.
Who doesn’t love cats? And don’t get me started on advise from cats! I really enjoyed this book. I finished this book so quick! I couldn’t put it down! One will never forget this fur ball.
I have been following the story of Bob the streetcar for quite a long time. It is beautiful and wholesome, and it gives me hope for the state of the world, honestly, that there's that type of love out there. Anyone who doesn't know about Bob, please pick this up.
Bob the street cat is an internationally known sensation. He befriended a street musician named James Bowen and taught the man how to live a better life. Bowen wrote about that and gave us all insight into Bob’s wisdom and compassion. Their adventures together have spanned many years and many books, which continue to help us all live more connected, better lives.
For those who haven’t yet gotten to experience Bob through his books, or for those who have and want to share the wonder of Bob in an easy-to-read book of short stories and encouraging philosophy, here is The Little Book of Bob, a short gift book filled with all the life-affirming lessons of this amazing cat.
There is a chapter that celebrates all the best parts of friendship, from having someone to share your good fortune with to finding someone you can be yourself with. Bob teaches us what we need to be happy—to be noticed, to have both boundaries and space, to have a routine, and to have something to believe in, to name just a few.
The lessons Bob teaches through his everyday actions remind us to believe in ourselves, open our eyes and see the wonder around us, take chances, be grateful, pick your battles, and enjoy the journey. And when life gets tough, Bob reminds us not to be ruled by fear, not to judge a book by its cover, expect nothing, and stand your ground.
He also reminds us how important it is to be good to ourselves, to live at our own speed, savor meals, stretch it out, say thank you, let love in, and have fun. Each day with Bob is a new lesson in love, acceptance, joy, peace, relationships, and thankfulness. Bob may be a small cat who once had to scramble for each meal, but the lessons he can teach us are universal, heart-warming, and potentially life-changing.
The Little Book of Bob is a reminder of everything that is best about life, from the moments we share to the quietude of being alone. Bob may be a cat, but he knows how to live a better life than a lot of humans, and if we slow down and listen to what he has to say, he could make our lives richer too.
Galleys for The Little Book of Bob were provided by St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley, with many thanks.
A great easy and quick read which imparts us with the wisdom James Bowden has been blessed with since Bob the cat came into his life.
Their relationship developed when James was living rough and so was Bob. James kicked the drugs and went busking...although Bob totally upstaged him. Their full story is told in A Street Cat Named Bob, which is written by James. There is also a delightful movie now too.
The Little Book of Bob is made up short stories, in sections named: lessons in friendship, what we need to be happy, how to get the most out of life, how to survive all that life throws at us, how to be good to ourselves, and lessons in day-to-day life. Ancedotes relate back to the story told in the full book.
A beautiful book full of uplifting lessons that warm your heart and lift your soul! A great read for the start of a new year/decade.
Thanks to #NetGalley, Hodder & Stoughton and James Bowen for the opportunity to review this book.
If you own a cat this is the book for you. The author shows the soul of the cat and finds his own along with him. Beautiful insight into the world especially if you are lucky enough to share it with a furry friend. It will make you laugh, smile and shed a tear. Loved it! Thank you to NetGalley for a copy
I really enjoyed reading more about Bob, the loveable cat. Bob's adventures never cease to amazing as he lives out all of his nine lives. Keep writing about Bob!
I'm a big believer in the animals who need us (and who we need) enter our lives at the perfect time. Bob showed up when James needed him and James was willing to learn from this former street cat. This is a heartwarming look at those lessons Bob had to teach. A great gift idea for the cat lover in your life!
Title: The Little Book of Bob: Everyday Wisdom from Street Cat Bob
Author: James Bowen

Genre: Non fiction
Rating: 4 stars
Publisher: Hodder and Stoughton
Words of Wisdom from what a man learned from his cat. James shares what he learned from living with Bob. And surprisingly cats can give good advice just by watching what they do and how they act around people. It was a quick little read.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
The Little Book of Bob is the latest novel to come out from James and his Street Cat Bob. But you don’t have to have read the other novels in order to understate or appreciate this one, I can promise you that much.
This is a novel made up of all the life lessons that James Bowen learned from his adorable ginger tom cat, Bob. Bob was found on the streets (well, not literally, but very close to it) back in 2007, he was injured and alone.
James took little Bob in, and it changed his life forever. This is a non-fiction novel, and one that promises to move any animal cat or animal lover out there. I can assure you that my eyes misted up on more than one occasion, thanks to this sweet tribute to sweet and wise Bob.
“He certainly rescued me. When I look back on it, my life had been a real mess before I met him. For a decade or more, I’d been an addict and had spent an extended period homeless, sleeping rough or in shelters. I had been down to my last chance – on my ninth life, if you like. I credit him with helping me to turn things around.”
I picked up The Little Book of Bob because I love cats, and that means I automatically love anybody who’s taken the time to learn a life lesson from their cat. I have never read any of the other books about Bob and his owner, but I didn’t let that scare me away.
And honestly? I’m happy I made that decision. The Little Book of Bob was delightful and heartwarming. It’s impossible not to read this book without a smile on your face. Though I meant it when I said it made my eyes mist up a time or two. It was absolutely worth it.
All cat lovers should check out this charming read. It’s everything the description promises, but it’s also so much more. And it’s something many a cat owner will resonate with.
If you have not seen books or the movie about Bob you have missed out. It is a story of a one-time homeless man living in London who is adopted by a stray orange tabby cat and how that simple occurrence changed both their lives forever. This book includes short stories of the many lessons learned from Bob. This is a delightful story of a friendship between man and his cat. A heartwarming read.
This book contains short (a few paragraphs) vignettes from Bob's human about their life together. It's organized in such a way that it's easy to read in short bursts or all at once. It's a great little "life philosophy" book, in which James tells us what he's learned about life from Bob. The "life lessons" are very wise and easy for anyone to understand and apply to their own lives. I loved it so much I'm ordering several to give as gifts. Highly recommended!
Princess Fuzzypants here: Anyone familiar with my daily blog will know Bob is one of my heroes. A savvy street-cat, he found and saved James who was a drug addict spiralling down to who knows what. His stories and the film based on their lives could not fail to impress even the hardest heart. In fact, if someone failed to be touched by it, perhaps they have no heart.
In his journey, both before and after James, Bob developed a very zen view of the world. He is not only handsome, he is wise and compassionate. Thanks to his scribe, James, Bob shares some of the insights he has learned about himself and the world around him. His advice is brilliant and we would all do well to listen to him. He understands reality and he chooses how to respond to it.
We can benefit from his wisdom.
This would make a fantastic present for any cat lover or fan of Bob- which should be the entire world. Five purrs and two enthusiastic paws up.
This book shows the wisdom and insight that James Bowen, the author of A Street Cat named Bob, has learned from his cat, Bob, during his many years with him. Basically, live life to the fullest and don't let things drag you down. Take opportunities.
From the moment I opened this book, I was drawn right in. The way James Bowen writes leaves people with an inability to put the book down, The reader will be wishing that they had a cat like Bob. Bob's wisdom can be used for everyone. Very glad that James and Bob found each other.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest opinion.
I read my first Bob book (the original) years ago and it really touched me at the time. I have always believed that people and animals come into your life for a reason. James earned his money as a busker and was a drug addict as well. It was during these hard times that Bob just appeared one night in his hallway. He was injured at the time and James couldn't find who Bob belonged to so he got Bob the help he needed and both mutually decided to keep each other after that. That was when life started to change as James now had someone else to care for and Bob had his own person...they became a duo...James wrote the first book and now there is even a movie about the two.
Essentially, this particular book is a very positive "self help" book according to Bob but written by James. It was very cute, very positive, and a very easy read. Don't get me wrong, the stories will warm your heart and possibly even change the way you think. Sometimes that's all it takes- reading the wisdom of someone else, even if it is a ginger cat. :) I would definitely recommend the book but I would also suggest you go back to the beginning and start from the very first one. You really need to meet James and Bob in a proper way.
I found that The Little Book of Bob, Life Lessons from a Street-wise Cat is not James Bowen’s first book about tis amazing cat. However, this is more of an anecdotal version with tidbits of feline wisdom. It is interesting reading making it the book gift book for this holiday season or any season.
I appreciated the wisdom, the relationship that benefited the man even more than the cat and the way we can all benefit from the sharing of it. Uplifting with lesson in bit size readings.
An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is quick book filled with short life lessons from Streetcat Bob and the wisdom he shares with the people around him. He is truly one unique cat. Thanks Bob! And thanks Netgalley for an arc of this book.
I have read the entire series and adored every book.. This new release may be my favorite yet in the series. Having a great life long love for cats I appreciate how James wrote this lovingly of Bob and what he has brought to his life. He writes of kindness and how Bob taught him patience and to have faith. Its a wonderful gift to cat lovers and absolutely endearing and reflective of their special love between Bob and James. I loved this book and highly recommend it for all who adore cats. I will be giving this to friends for gifts and buying a hard copy for myself to read time and time again.
Thank you with gratitude to the publisher, to James for writing this wonderful book and to Net Galley for promoting it through Net Galley for review. My review opinion is my own
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the chance to read and review, "The Little Book of Bob" by James Bowen. A delightful book of friendship with the feline wonder that is Bob. As a cat lover, this book really spoke to me. I loved reading about the quirky life tips that came from stories about Bob.
