This book had the premise to be good, but to be honest the writing and editing was pretty bad. It took away from the story in my opinion. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC.
Cute, predictable, likable characters and a fast beach read for those who love a romance with a bit of suspense.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Katie Knight Coming TO Her Rescue.
I love me a good romantic suspense story, but this one just had me rolling my eyes too much.
Jake Hendrix almost shared a kiss with the younger sister of his Navy squadmate five years ago. But not wanting any distractions before entering SEAL training, he walked away. Now it’s five years later and Hanna is up for auction at a charity event. When Jake wins and spends the night with Hanna, he knows it’s a night he won’t ever forget, but walks away again because he still can’t afford distractions. But then one of Hanna’s clients is killed, and bad guys are after her, so Jake has to keep her - and the child they conceived on their date - safe.
This could have been a good story. But the writing was simplistic, things were over explained, and our heroine - who is supposed to be smart - constantly argues with Jake, who is trying to keep her safe from people who shot at her in an airport parking garage. She hadn’t the least care in the world that they are on the run from people who have already killed someone, and want her dead as well.
Then we have the whole issue of repeatedly having to read the same inner thoughts from the hero (“I can’t be a family man because I’m a SEAL” and “it’s wrong to be with my friend’s little sister” - FYI she’s 26), and the heroine (“will he break his rules to be with me” and “he doesn’t check all the boxes on my list”)...and on and on and on.
There’s also laughable dialogue like “don’t come any closer or your girlfriend gets it.” Actually, the whole “suspense” part of this story comes off more like an episode of the Keystone Kops. If you want to read a similar story (therapist is in danger because of a client and military guy keeps her safe), with non-stop action that keeps you on the edge of your seat and a steamy romance as a bonus, read Winters Heat by Cristin Harber.
I requested this book because I love the unplanned pregnancy trope, but there was very little drama or angst involved in that part of the story line. Which I suppose it was nice to see a man have a change of heart once the reality of a baby is present. But I would have liked a little more discussion, and little more angst, between Hanna and Jake over the situation. Things were resolved and headed for happily-ever-after in about three sentences. Overall, I feel like nothing in the story was developed well enough for a reader to get invested in the plot or the characters.
I always like to give a new-to-me author more than one read. So I will give Katie Knight another try - especially since I’m a big fan of romantic suspense. But I’ll need a more fleshed-out story if she’s going to be an author I read regularly.

Hannah is a psychologist who has been looking for the perfect man. She enters a contest hoping to find that man. Jake is a Seal who gets tricked into going to the contest by a friend he owed a favor to. He sees Hannah on the stage and remembers she’s a fellow SEALs sister. He bids on her to protect her from some perverts that are bidding also. Little does he know that in winning he wins more then he bargained for!
I read this book as an arc from NetGalley
Coming to Her Rescue by Katie Knight and Leslie North is the story of Hanna Masterson and Jake Hendrix.
Hanna's brother is a Navy Seal and she has always been attracted to his fellow friend/Seal Partner Jake. But she knows he isn't a long term relationship person nor would he be anything like that toward her. So she is putting herself out there to find her someone which leads her to a charity auction. Jake happens to attend the auction and goes forward to bid and buy her for the date. Which leads them to one hot encounter but of course Jake pulls away the next day. A few weeks past and they meet again when he sent to pick her up but it leads to them being ambushed and Jake goes into protective mode.
Enjoyed their hot story.
Okay so the beginning of this book had me hooked, and I was so into it and really liked it. It had me thinking about what happens next all the time, and I could feel the tension in the book.
I love a good Romantic suspense book, and this was starting out great, so I was ready for more. But then it was like I got 50% into the book, and the Heroine started to act immature and really annoyed me so much it ruined the story for me. The suspense was still there but because the heroine lived in a bubble and had the attitude that even though she currently lived in a safe house because someone wanted her killed, she was safe and could do anything she wanted. No matter what her protective SEAL said because as long as he was around, then she could do whatever she wants even if he said not to.
So as I had been waiting on the suspense to peak in the book and was ready for that feeling where my heart started beating, and I would get maybe even a little afraid of what would happen to the characters. It didn't happen because I was so annoyed at the heroine that when the book finally peaked it wasn't an oh no situation for me only a mild curiosity about what would happen next. How would it play out?
The book was really good written, and the hero was amazing, and I was ready for this book to be a 4 star read, but then the heroine just had to go and get a new personality and never ever grow up again so I will sadly say it is only a 3 star read for me. But if the heroine doesn't annoy you, then this is a really good story with a good plot.
I’ve read a few of Leslie Norths books but never with another author, this wasn’t a disappointment, a light easy read as I’d expect but it also had a nice fresh feeling to it as well. Enjoyable and full of charm and humour a great book to a HEA and a feel-good read

I'd read one of Leslie North's books through netgalley and really enjoyed it so was thrilled and intrigued to be able to read another - this time in conjunction with Katie Knight who is a new voice for me
A light, quick read - I loved the story, the characters were well written - as a foodie myself, Hanna's encouragement of healthy lifestyle Jake to try her food was a great touch.
A lovely, summer read
Jake is really into a healthy life style. I laughed when he tried to get Hanna to join him and she persuaded him to try her food instead. It was this light side that made me like Jake.
So I did read this whole story, and I did like the concept, j overall didn’t really care for this one.
It seemed kinda blah and I had a hard time staying ‘in’ the story.
Overall, I’m rating it 3.5 stars.
