I unfortunately couldn't finish this book. I honestly couldn't get over how toxic Naomi and Nicholas's relationship was. And it has nothing to do with with their pranks. I was actually excited about the pranks. My issue was with Nicholas's mother, and with how Nicholas was not even attempting to tell his mom off from being rude to his future wife.

Also for some reason Naomi keeps thinking Nicholas will do something to hurt her and it was presented in a way that was supposed to be funny and quirky but to me it wasn't funny at all. I just... I had to stop after that. I'm glad others enjoyed it, but this book just isn't for me.

I really enjoyed this! The romance and chemistry between the two MC's is fantastic! Their love story is such a fun journey and I had a great time reading this book. Would highly recommend.

I honestly wasn't sure how to rate this book. I spent so much of it disliking Naomi, the main character, and her actions. I could understand her frustrations with her relationship with Nicholas, but she was so over the top about everything it was not fun to read. It was too bad because I did enjoy Sarah Hogle's writing style.

When I reached about the 75%-80% mark, I felt like I started to see some growth and liked this story a lot more. I just wish it hadn't taken that long for Naomi to start to look at things differently.

I really enjoyed this one. What a cute second chance romance story! It was sweet and funny. I especially loved the banter and the sense of humor. It would be cute to see this adapted into a movie.

I love the enemies to lovers trope but I think I have outgrown it. I just dont understand the vibe and how it is fun to have the appearance of having it all when you dont.

This was a hilarious enemies to lovers and a different take on a second chance romance… the plot was original as I’d never seen the enemies to lovers to a couple *already* engaged… the pranks were the best and the ending swoon-worthy.

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are all having an amazing week so far! I can tell you as I type this post I am eating cookie doe and drinking Moscato, so living my best life right now, lol. Today I bring you a book that I devoured in two days, because I could not put it down. You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle, made me laugh, cry, and scream at the characters.

The book description comes from the Goodreads website:

“Naomi Westfield has the perfect fiancé: Nicholas Rose holds doors open for her, remembers her restaurant orders, and comes from the kind of upstanding society family any bride would love to be a part of. They never fight. They’re preparing for their lavish wedding that’s three months away. And she is miserably and utterly sick of him.

Naomi wants out, but there’s a catch: whoever ends the engagement will have to foot the nonrefundable wedding bill. When Naomi discovers that Nicholas, too, has been feigning contentment, the two of them go head-to-head in a battle of pranks, sabotage, and all-out emotional warfare.

But with the countdown looming to the wedding that may or may not come to pass, Naomi finds her resolve slipping. Because now that they have nothing to lose, they’re finally being themselves–and having fun with the last person they expect: each other.

When your nemesis also happens to be your fiancé, happily ever after becomes a lot more complicated in this wickedly funny, lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy debut.”

In my opinion Sarah has a hit on her hands, because instead of giving you a slightly unrealistic romance, she gives the reader a couple who has problems that can either break them, make them miserable or make them stronger as a couple, if they can make it that far. A lot of us, myself included, could relate to this in some way to a relationship we have had or currently have. Naomi was a character I instantly fell in love with, and found that I could relate to her on a personal and professional level. Now, I will admit I HATED Nicholas at first, I wanted to reach threw the book and punch him in the face, because he reminded me a little bit of Wickham. However, as the story went a long and I learned more about him, I started to slowly fall in love with him and I got to see a totally different side of him.

Sarah writes these two characters in such a realistic light that you will either want them to end up together or want them to go their separate ways. I definitly have dated a couple of Nicholas’s in my time, because he is such a mommy’s boy like a lot of my exes were. But Nicholas and Naomi both go on a journey of self discovery and discovery as a couple, that it’s not hard to fall in love with the story. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will be sucked into this realistic relationship that you won’t want to stop reading until the very end!

Go on a journey of love and revenge with Naomi and Nicholas my dears!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, for this free review copy.

I have let this book sit on my kindle for YEARS 🫣, and I hope you don’t do the same. I don’t remember a book that has made me laugh out loud SO many times. Naomi is seriously unhinged and I am here for it 🙌👏

The hate Naomi has for her future mother in law had me dying with laughter. The lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers was perfect for this book, and I simply devoured it!

Buried deep within the plot, is the simple message: you have to work for what you want. ❤️

Thanks again to NetGalley and the publisher, for this free review copy.

I'm sorry, but I don't love this book as much as other people do. It's a good read, but something was missing. But if you enjoy reading second chance in your marriage, then you will love reading this book. Keep in mind that these characters are a bit annoying and petty with each other, but they ultimately love each other though.

I almost quit this one because Naomi's voice in the first half was so grating, but I'm glad I kept going because the payoff was spectacular. Many times in romance, you get to the HEA and you see chemistry between the LIs but this was one of the few examples where I really felt the love. It was glorious. I kept smiling as Naomi and Nicholas rediscovered each other. A very bold book!

I'm trying to figure out what took me so long to actually read this book! Naomi and Nick are engage to be married and now neither seem to be very happy about that. Naomi is being strangled by the wedding plans Nick's mom is putting her through from changing the flowers to carnations to sizing her dress down a size every week. Naomi wants to call off the wedding but then she will end up paying for it and she cannot afford it. If she could only get Nick to call it off. When Naomi loses her job because the store closes that changes things a bit and Nick suddenly starts to change. Is it for the better? These two are something else. It takes them a while to actually start talking and once they figure out to start working together...oh my goodness...then things really start looking up. This was a slow start but once I got into it I loved it.

I loved this book. Naomi and Nicholas are the perfect couple. Everyone thinks so. They don't fight, they never forget an important date, and have the perfect wedding about to happen in three months. So why isn't she more excited for it to come and why does she feel like she can't spend another second in his company.
Due to an unrefundable wedding approaching, she decides to make him call off the engagement and he retaliates by doing everything he can to call her bluff.
Once Nicholas shows his true wants and personality to her, the game completely changes.

So I'm a Sarah Hogle super fan now. I love how deftly she weaves ridiculous, almost utterly absurd comedy with heart-tugging emotional themes. She can make you laugh and tear up within a couple of pages, and that is some serious talent. She has me for life.

So, I have mixed feelings about this book. The synopsis drew me in from the beginning – a couple that tries to their hardest to make each other quit their relationship? Pranks? Sabotage? Usually, I’m totally game for this sort of cat and mouse game; but I’m sad to say, I didn’t like the book as much as I had hoped, and here’s why:

Firstly, I had a hard time finding into the story. The main reason for that being that I can’t even imagine how one lets get things so out of hand. I know these things happen quietly and slowly, and before you know it, you’re looking in the mirror and don’t recognize yourself, but how can you even consider going through with a wedding when that’s where your heads at? No matter how it looks from the outside. Needless to say, one chapter in, I was ready to throttle him and shake some sense into her. The introduction is obviously necessary for the storyline, but I had my issues with it.

I sympathized with Naomi a bit more in the beginning, as the story written in her point of view, and I’m a female who also has a bit of a flare for the dramatic. Also, I believe a man should never choose the contentment of his mother over his future wife’s simply because his mother would be the bigger problem. So, that was strike one against Nick. His mother is literally the devil, by the way.

However, once the story progressed into the phase where they try to get the other to throw in the towel, things got better. While the pranks and fights were a bit over the top at times, they slowly became their middle ground. Their attraction to each other definitely makes things interesting, because Naomi for one, doesn’t necessarily want to be attracted to Nicholas. Not anymore, at least. They eventually realize that both are at fault for their predicament and open up to each other about their issues, things they want and care about; basically, they stop telling the other what they believe they want to hear and are honest with each other for a change.

I actually really liked that part, and that also means both characters come a long away throughout the story – character development on point. Amidst all of this, Naomi and Nick find their way back to each other and realize that the things they want aren’t that different. The last drama bomb was a bit unnecessary, in my opinion, as we had established that communication is the key and not jumping to conclusions and making a run for it. Still, in the end, we get our happy ending, and that is what we hope for reading romance novels, right?

Long story short, while this one wasn’t one hundred percent my cup of tea, it’s still a nice and quick read. Come to think of it, a dual point of view would have been awesome for this one. I love getting both sides of the story. If the enemies to lovers set-up is your thing – give it a shot.

I'll admit that as I began reading this book, I almost abandoned it a number of times, due to the intensely toxic nature of the relationship between the main characters. Though they are engaged, they are deeply unhappy, and have fallen into a pattern of being downright awful toward one another.. It is, quite frankly, hard to read! I'm glad that I stuck it out, though, because as this book turns toward its second half, it becomes a really honest and deep examination in how relationships fall apart. Without intentional communication, vulnerability, and making an effort to choose one another daily, people grow apart. Love is not a perfect given that can simply survive all challenge if it isn't supported by effort. I think that this book will stay with me for a long time, and it has already made me reflect honestly about my own relationship.

Forgot I even read this one. Didn't really like Naomi, and was bothered by the immaturity. Don't want to yuck anyone's yum, but this one wasn't for me.

This was SUCH a fun book to read! I was interested because I had seen many friends raving about it and naturally got peer pressured (I did not, I loved it) into reading and BOY was that a great experience!!

At this time, as I am guessing is obvious by the publication date that was literally years ago, I have decided not to review this title.

Technically, I made this decision a while ago, but was not as prompt with sending feedback as I should have been. My apologies for the delay, as well as clogging up your inbox with this very late review response.

As always, while incredibly late, I thank you for the opportunity to read and review one of your titles.

Laura
