SILO BOYS covers that aftermath, two years hence, of the death of Beau, a high school senior and the disappearance of Mason, one of his best friends. Told through the eyes of Abby, Mason's girlfriend, we see how she and Charlie (Beau's former girlfriend) have been affected by the tragedy. But when Mason returns to town only to be brutally murdered, Abby is determined to find out what really happened out at the silo on the fateful night Beau died, But Abby's amateur sleuthing put her in the sites of the killer. Odell does a decent job of unwinding the story and building suspense, but the ending was so unbelievable that it ruined the book for me.

** I received an electronic ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for honest review.**

Amy-Brooke Odell's debut novel, Silo Boys, was an engaging YA mystery/thriller that captured the atmosphere of South Carolina.

In Silo Boys, the reader follows Addy, a recent high school graduate as she attempts to come to terms with the death of her friend, Beau, the previous year. When Addy's boyfriend, who had disappeared after Beau's death, reaches out to her, it is the catalyst for a whole new sequence of events. Addy seeks to find out what really happened to Beau, why her boyfriend left, and is doing her best not to also wind up dead in the process.

Odell really did a good job establishing the characters and their relationships along with the setting. Her pacing, which can often be key in the mystery/thriller genre for me, was great for the most part. I do think that the resolution happened a little too quickly after having such a nice build, but this is a relatively minor complaint.

The manner of writing in clues to the mystery was done in a very clever way. Despite the fact that a lot of the "twists" could be anticipated, they were well executed which made them work.

I think Silo Boys is a great addition to the mystery/thriller genre for young adult readers, and is accessible and enjoyable for people new to the genre as well.

I look forward to future works from this author.

There are some good things about this book. The writing was so good that I could picture The town and the characters. The mystery was really good, and I was drawn in to the story. I wanted to know what happened to the boys.

However I had a hard time rooting for anyone. I just couldn't get emotionally invested. i enjoyed it more intellectually than emotionally. In addition, it took place many years ago....back in the time when cell phones were new, and people printed pictures. This was a little jarring at times.

I want to thank the publisher and #netgalley for an advance copy. This didn't affect my review.

I love a mystery that's engrossing from the beginning, that keeps me guessing, and maintains the fascination, then knocks me out with a killer denouement so unexpected as to blow me away. If you liked ULTIMATE SACRIFICE by S. E. Green, you'll enjoy THE SILO BOYS. I read it in a couple hours, glued to the page, and still find my mind enwrapped and enrapt. It's a "Wow!!"
