So glad Sophie Kinsella is back w/ more Becky Brandon nee Bloomwood! There are, of course, some predictable plot points & of course, it's a bit stressful to worry about the "Shopaholic's" financial issues, what with all that shopping, but I found this book to be highly enjoyable. There were even parts where I laughed out loud. All in all, a great start to the holiday book season.
Thanks to Netgalley and Dial Press for my copy of this book, all opinions are my own. Omg with this book, ya’ll. I read the first book in the series a million years ago and I never kept up with more than a few books in the series. Still, I love Christmas, so I obviously jumped at the chance to read this book. After I read a different Xmas book earlier this month, I was nervous going into this read, but Becky Branson, née Bloomwood, did not disappoint! I found myself gasping, laughing, and crying numerous times during this book. Were the scenarios over-the-top? Absolutely. But I loved every page. I forgot just how enjoyable Becky’s antics are and her antics about motherhood actually clicked with me on a new level as a reader. Her heart-of-gold and Luke’s understanding of who she is, still give me all the gooey feelings though. If you are looking for a good Xmas book, I highly recommend this one!!! 4.5 stars.
This is a charming holiday book to add to the shopaholic series. Bex always makes me laugh! It has been several years since I have read the other books in the series and I was able to jump right back in.
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing/The Dial Press and Sophie Kinsella for the ARC to review. Becky does not disappoint. She is as daffy as ever. However, she really finds the true meaning of Christmas for her and her family. Very heartwarming and charming book. Great Christmas read. I love Sophie Kinsella.
What a fantastic holiday entry into the Shopaholic series! Highly recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
Verdict: loved it! I didn’t realize how much I have missed Becky and her crazy, unorthodox, stressful, HILARIOUS ways. And Luke...ahhh...may we all have a hubby who loves us with the grace and patience that Luke has (mine does 🙌🏼).
This is such a fun read. It’s so “sprygge.” Not to be confused with hygge! 😉 You have to read the book to find out what that means. There was more swearing than I prefer in a book, but overall, it’s a quite enjoyable read and I found myself smiling many times while reading.
*While this book can definitely be read without reading the rest of the series, you will get more from it if you’ve read the other books as you’ll be familiar with the characters and backstories.
As much as I enjoy her books I am not a fan of the shopaholic series. I though with a Christmas theme it would be fun to read but Except for a few scenes I generally found this to be quote boring.
Even though I've only read the first in this series which made me extremely anxious the whole time (so much spending! eeek!), this one was pretty cute and heartwarming. You don't have to have read all the books in the series, but it's easy to infer what happened in the previous ones from the story. I'm happy to say this book did NOT make me anxious, but she is still a bit of a spender :) Her relationship with her husband is adorable, and I love how closely-knit her family is and how selfless she can be, even though you wouldn't think it of her sometimes. A good read for Christmas!
Thanks to Netgalley, The Dial Press and Sophia Kinsella for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella is the latest installment of the fabulous Shopaholic series featuring our ever loving female character, Becky Brandon nee Bloomwood.
Becky is hilarious, high-strung, intelligent, flawed, yet is sweet, has a kind soul, and tender-hearted. One cannot help but love her and forgive her for her antics and for getting herself caught up in a whole array of shenanigans against her better judgement.
How I missed Becky !
She’s back! For the sake of transparency, I read the first few Shopaholic books and then I felt like the plot lines imploded, so I gave up. After My Not So Perfect Life, my faith in Sophie Kinsella was restored and I had to read the first Shopaholic book to come out in four years!
And I’m so glad I did! Shopaholic Christmas rivals the original. It was such a fun ride and reading it felt like catching up with an old friend or two (I love Suze and Becky’s friendship)! The humor is straight screwball - the vegan turkey is ab workout I’m recommending this holiday season. Becky’s mental gymnastics to justify her shopping is something else! And the hunt for the perfect gifts - just read this book and enjoy it for the delightful hot mess that is Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood).
The holidays are crazy, Shopaholic Christmas is a good reminder to laugh off the ridiculous and enjoy every second!
Ahh! Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) returns in another adventure and I couldn't be happier. I've been a longtime fan of the Shopaholic series and Christmas Shopaholic fits in wonderfully. Becky is charged with hosting her family and friends for Christmas this year and, in true Becky fashion, things get out of hand quickly. Anyone who has hosted a family gathering can relate to the trials of accommodating everyone's requests, getting everything on the to-do list done and finishing your shopping on time. This book has many laugh-out-loud moments as well as sweet, emotional scenes that will remind the reader why Becky has always been so endearing. She has a big heart and readers can't help but love her character! After reading this book, you'll be all set for the upcoming holiday season.
I have read Sophie Kinsella religiously for the past 12-ish years and her Shopaholic series always makes me feel all comfy and at home no matter where I am. Christmas Shopaholic is a wonderful entry into her series and I loved it; particularly because it's a Christmassy book. I am just not sure if the frantic pacing of the story made me feel overwhelmed or if that's some of my own life creeping into the book and I'm feeling huge empathy for Becky Bloomwood (Brandon)! It's perhaps been a while since I"ve read a Shopaholic entry and it feels like maybe some of Kinsella's other one-offs give the reader more focussed story-telling. It's just, THERE WAS A LOT HAPPENING IN THIS BOOK (read in Becky's voice, please). That said, I devoured the book and even got a little teary at the end.
Thank you, Random House Publishing Group, for giving me the opportunity to tuck right into this book the moment I saw it was available! It was a real treat.
Christmas Shopaholic is a great gift if you want to send the not-so-subtle message to your friends and relatives that they need to step back, slow down, and really savour this coming holiday season.
Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella is the ninth book in the contemporary romance, chicklit Shopaholic series. The series does follow one character, our Shopaholic Becky, and would probably be best to read in order from the beginning. However, being a late to the club but now a fan of Sophie Kinsella I did read and understand this one just fine as a standalone.
The title of this series will give readers a hint into the character of this series and her obsession with shopping and finding the latest bargain. This all holds true for Becky in this latest installment that catches up with her and her family and friends at Christmastime. After Becky’s parents have decided to move to a hip new neighborhood in a smaller place Becky finds herself tasked with organizing and hosting her first Christmas and wants it all to be perfect for everyone despite their differences.
Even though I went against my own rule of not jumping into an ongoing series with this one I still found myself absolutely enjoying it. I never felt lost or missing anything with the characters or story which is saying alot since I know the series has been around for quite a while. Instead I was quickly swept up in Becky’s craziness and laughing practically at each turn of a page. Sophie Kinsella has such quirky and fun characters that I couldn’t help but become a fan and of course I’ll look forward to reading more from her in the future.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
If you are a fan of Sophie Kinsella's "Shopaholic" series, then her newest addition, "Christmas Shopaholic" will not disappoint! Christmas Day is always celebrated at the home of Becky's parents, but when her sister announces that she and her husband will be coming back to England from Chile right before the holidays, Becky's parents decide to temporarily move out and give Jess and Tom their home. It's then decided that Becky, along with her husband Luke, and young daughter Minnie, will host Christmas, for their first time, this year! Becky wants to host the perfect Christmas, and make everybody happy by incorporating their suggestions into the holiday, which is no easy task! Mix in a rock star ex-boyfriend from her college days, trying to find the perfect Christmas present for her husband, and feuding family members, and Becky is starting to feel the stress!
As always, Becky's antics make for a hilarious read and it was a perfect way to start getting into the mood for the upcoming holiday season! If you are looking for a light, fun read, this is it! Looking forward to the next book in the Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) series, which is nicely set up with the ending of this book.
Thank you to Random House Publishing Group, The Dial Press, and NetGalley, for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is certainly a shopaholic read! Pages and pages were filled with brands and varieties, styles and models, prices and availability. From food to apparel to fragrances to toys, Kinsella wrote a shopping extravaganza ... emphasis on the extra! That said, Kinsella maintained a nice tight plot, good character development and relationships, and just the right amount of drama in the subplots to keep me laughing. Well done, and you can always skim the pages full of merch if they get to be too much - I did!

This book was HYSTERICAL! I was literally giggling in public with this one. There are so many comical things in this book from the "meditation" to the edginess to the tequila shots. Becky does not disappoint with her antics. Everyone needs free shipping, especially based on an expiring cart! I love how she buys several sizes of one thing, in case they do not fit, then never returns them. To have that amount of money would be lovely, wouldn't it? The British references in this book are just darling!
Buying a dress that is super small and thinking that she would fit into it and hiring a virtual personal trainer is priceless. Again, I died! Becky and all her shenanigans to get the “PERFECT GIFT”. From permanent marker to changing a club’s policy to let in women to buy a raffle ticket. I love her and her antics. I just cannot get enough. I do not know how I would ever get away with the stunts that she pulls. If I were to order as much as she did, my husband would run to the nearest lawyer and file some serious papers, besides cancelling all my credit cards. This book is a fantastic fantasy to live vicariously through. Please do not drink or eat while you read this. I was literally laughing out loud and almost choked and did a spit take several times while reading this. Becky is the best medicine for someone who is down and out. You will definitely find everything you are looking for in this book. It is complete with OMG moments; WTH moments; uh what? Your parents want to move where? You are going to have drinks with your husband and who? The last 10 percent of this book was simply the best when everything unfolds, and the antics are in their highest. I cannot wait until she releases her next book. I hope I am lucky enough to review that one as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and loved that it was Christmas themed. Normally, I don’t get a chance to read the holiday books until the summertime. I am so grateful for this opportunity to read this book and hope you too enjoy Becky and her silliness.
This is the perfect addition to the Shopaholic series and puts the reader in the Christmas spirit. I love these books, as they are always a light and fun read! Highly recommend!
Thank you to @penguinrandomhouse for my gifted copy of Christmas Shopaholic. Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) is back in action with her funny wit and slightly warped sense of reality. If you have liked the books you will enjoys this one too! I laughed out loud on so many occasions but in the end it was heartwarming. This is definitely a series I wish would get redone at the movies.
Becky has just found that her parent are relocating from her childhood home to a flat near London. Her sister is going to be staying at the house temporarily as she and her husband (and Becky’s Childhood neighbor) Tom move back from Chile. As a result Becky has been asked to host Christmas for the first time. Let the shopping and hilarity begin!
This is perfect holiday novel to get ready for the season. Especially if you have loved this series.
This is the first book I’ve read from the Shopaholic series and I really enjoyed it. It’s fast, fun, quirky, and introduced me to the hilarious character that is Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood). She’s funny, and silly, and sometimes really out there, but also a mom, daughter, good friend, wife, and more relatable then I thought she’d be. This book is full of mishaps and adventures, lots of shopping, and feel good reminders of what the holidays are all about. If you’re looking for a fun, fast Christmas read and enjoy quirkiness and British humor (think The Flatshare and Bridget Jones), then add this to your holiday reading list! Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella is out now.
I don't generally read Christmas stories, but OMG I love Christmas Shopaholic! If you've read and enjoyed any of the books in the Shopaholic series, you don't want to miss this one! I have to admit I was starting to get bored by the series, but this one breathes new life into it. This year for the first time Bex is going to be in charge of hosting Christmas dinner at her house with all the family and friends we have gotten to know in previous books. What do you get for the husband that has everything? Or the friend that always re-gifts? Leave it to Bex, she'll figure it out. The situations she gets into will have you laughing out loud. And of course she has a tendency to guess what others ar thinking, and boy oh boy she gets herself into a whopper this time. If you're going to read and Christmas novels this year, you have to read this one! Whether you've read any of the previous books in the series or not, I promise it will not disappoint! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
