Ohhhh what can I say about this book???? Well it's have two of my favorite things in it... Christmas and the Shopaholic storyline I do love from Sophie. When I saw this book on Netgalley I didn't read the description.... why bother it's by Sophie so I will love it. And love it I did! Sophie's storytelling is amazing. I swear when I read her books the stories whisk me away for how ever long I am reading.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have been a big fan of Kinsella's books and this was no different. I love Becky's quirky personality and found her questionable decisions comical. This put me in the holiday spirit as I read about Becky floundering to host Christmas for her family. Faced with daunting tasks and a family that can't seem to get along, Becky is determined to make Christmas perfect.
This was a quick and fun read. I couldn't put it down and read it during any downtime I had. It's set to be published October 15, 2019, and I highly recommend checking this out!
You know that friend that you go years without contact, yet you are so comfortable that you pick right up where you left off? Well that is me with Becky Brandon (Bloomwood). This girl has seen me through some hard times! I have missed Becky and her outgoing, quirky, sometimes socially unacceptable personality. I was so excited to see a new Shopaholic book and a Christmas one at that!
So for those of you who don't know Becky- there is a whole series, except this is a perfect stand alone. No need to read the previous books, except you will want to after you read this! I think I read my first Shopaholic book in 2000. Honestly I completely forgot about the series since I have not read any in years, this was literally like going back in time. Very nostalgic, it was like indulging in some comfort food for the soul.
Back to Becky! This girl is like a Bridget Jones with more fashion style and an addiction to shopping. Becky believes in buying everything in excess, no matter what it is. Why order one turkey when you can order three- just in case...in case what I don't know, but this is how Becky rolls.
When Becky is nominated by the family to host Christmas, it throws her into a buying frenzy. As always, the crazy antics continue...she loves to send random letters and the responses are always hilarious. From 30 lbs of frozen salmon on the front lawn, to getting locked in a pet store with loose hamsters- Becky never disappoints. Fingers crossed for another Becky book soon!!
Thank you so much to the publisher Random House for this adorable, fun ARC! Thanks so much for Sophie Kinsella for turning out another great Shopaholic book! We love Becky!!!
Rating: 4.5 Stars
I am always excited, when I find out about a new Sophie Kinsella release, but I was even more excited, when I found out we were getting a new Shopaholic book.
Over the years, and over quite a few books, I have developed a special fondness for Becky. She is a bit of (lovable) screwball, and always flounders a bit, but in the end, she comes out on top, and she does so in a way that is lovely and heartwarming.
It was such a treat to catch up with Becky! This time, she had taken on the challenge of hosting the family Christmas celebration. And, lo and behold, everyone seemed to be coming - family and extended family. As always, there were many zany and humorous happenings, but they were all punctuated by those heartfelt moments, that I have grown to expect from Kinsella. The final chapter actually left me in happy tears. There was this really beautiful moment, when Jess give out her gifts. I was trying to hold back my tears during that part, and then that "word" Becky gifted Luke with was so sweet and wonderful, my floodgates had to let the happy tears flow.
As always, I had a wonderful time with a character I have grown to love.
Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) is back again! It's been so long since I've read a Shopaholic book so I was excited to see it on Netgalley as an upcoming release. Becky is embracing life in the suburbs with her husband Luke and daughter Minnie while working with her best friend Suze in Suze's gift shop. She's excited for the holidays - all the traditions and shopping to be done, until her mom asks her to host Christmas this year. What could possibly go wrong?
Per usual, Becky makes unwise choices that are laugh out loud funny and at times frustrating (for a practical person like myself) - it's like a train wreck, you can't help but watch (read in this case). However, you know it's all going to work out in the end, so I was happy to go along with the ride. This is a perfect holiday read to get you into the holiday spirits!
Thank you to Netgalley and Dial Press for a copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
You can count on Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) for an entertainingly absurd story, but Christmas Shopaholic was even better than I was hoping! Becky is tasked with hosting Christmas for all of her friends and family after her parents unexpectedly move to trendy Shoreditch. A flurry of requests for the perfect Christmas pour in, but she knows a little bit of shopping will solve everything! The stress begins building though as she strives to meet everyone's needs and manage growing tensions among the group.
If you've read any of the books in the Shopaholic series, you'll know that Becky is one of those unique characters you don't understand but love anyway. Her shopping habit is literally unfathomable to me, but I still can't get enough of her. She finds herself in ridiculous situations and mishap after mishap. Yet, her kind heart and joyful spirit shine through.
Since I'm a Christmas fanatic, I knew that I would most likely enjoy this story simply because it takes place during Christmas. I didn't expect to both laugh out loud and tear up, though! This is an excellent addition to the Shopaholic series and has become one of my favorite Kinsella novels.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for this ARC.
The Shopaholic series has a special place in my heart. I’ve outgrown the chick lit genre, but I can’t keep myself away from Becky Brandon neé Bloomwood. Her voice is always refreshing, a little neurotic and completely hilarious. She never breaks her pattern. Reading a Shopaholic is like popping in your favorite movie. You know what to expect. It’s a comforting, weighted blanket. Becky takes on too much, per usual, and tries to please everyone. It builds and builds, despite Becky’s attempt to make everything perfect, and then promptly collapses around her. She’s relatable to me: a complete over-thinker. I will always love the Shopaholic series.
Who doesn't love Becky? Throughout this series she has evolved in to a somewhat mature woman but still has issues with shopping and with other people. This book is great and I felt like I was catching up with an old friend.
I'll be honest- I almost passed this one by= which would have been a HUGE mistake! It's been a while since I've read a Shopaholic novel (and it's been a while since the last one) and I'd forgotten how fun they are. Fans of the series (or those who've read one or two) will remember that Becky is a little scattered at times, loves to shop, but most importantly, she's got a good heart. She's married to Luke now and the mom to Minnie. She's working at her friend Suze's and things are going well. So well that her parents decide they aren't doing Christmas this yearand it's on her head to host! Her sister Jess (who honestly is a pest sometimes) is supposed to help but you know how these things go. If you've done the family Christmas, you'll no doubt remember your first time and both cringe and laugh with Becky. She might not always think before she speaks or acts but boy is this a hoot. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC. It's a breezy fun return of an old favorite (and new heroine for those who haven't read the series)!
Thank you Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
It has been such a long time since I’ve read a book in the Shopaholic series. I was SO excited when I saw this book, and got approved to read it early!
In Christmas Shopaholic, Becky is asked to host Christmas at her house, for the first time. Becky is already nervous to host her first Christmas. Then on top of everything, all her guests have come up with the craziest requests, and demands. It starts to completely stress Becky out. Will she be able to handle it, and host Christmas?
Becky has to survive all the crazy requests, a run in with her ex boyfriend, a family feud, and finding her husband the perfect Christmas gift. Becky of course, goes out of control with the shopping for Christmas!
This book had me laughing so many times during reading it. I couldn’t imagine what Becky would do next. Each moment was better than the next. I loved this book, it was heartwarming and hilarious. I would highly recommend it! Also, you don’t need to read the other books to understand what’s going on in this one.
I literally laughed out loud when reading this book. There is NOTHING better than a Sophie Kinsella novel. Nothing. Buy this book for everyone you know. It is that good!
LOVED it!
Becky never disappoints! I love her and her family and friends, I love being able to follow them throughout their lives. This one could stand on its own as a fun Christmas book, you do not need to know the whole back story of Becky's life to enjoy it. I love how relatable prepping for hosting Christmas is in this book, endless options of themes and peoples requests! This was such a fun read and perfect for getting you into the holiday spirit!
This is my new favorite Shopaholic book, which is really saying something. I have been a massive fan of the series for years and Sophie Kinsella is one of my top five favorite authors. I am so grateful that I got to read this copy. I did not realize how much I missed all of these characters, but I really did! This is a triumph of a book and it had me laughing at loud and completely warmed my heart. Just a phenomenal read. Pre-order it now on Amazon. Make haste!!
Christmas Shopaholic was just as delightful as the other book’s in the series. I loved the story line of Becky’s attempts to please her vegan sister- especially building the vegan turkey. My favorite scene is of Becky at the package free shop where she ends up buying 30 glass jars and beans go flying. I laughed out loud! There is a little twist at the end which kept the whole story interesting. And, our favorite shopaholic learns the true meaning of Christmas.
Four stars for this super fun and funny Christmas read!
I’ve read a few Christmas ARCs this year and this one is by far my fav! Such a fun read. I loved the ornament chapter drawings, the emails/messages that are only ever sent to Becky (we never see emails she sent... because we can totally guess what she wrote in that email to warrant the responses), and the interesting cast of characters in this book.
Some scenes and dialogue in this book had me laughing out loud. It was a quirky, funny, and sweet Christmas story. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a light and festive read!
It has been years since I last read a Shopaholic novel, so I was excited to spend time with Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) again. Christmas Shopaholic is a cute, lighthearted holiday read and nobody makes me laugh like Becky does. From joining an all men’s club to find her husband Luke the perfect gift, to going above and beyond to host the perfect family Christmas, Becky gets herself into many hilarious situations. While I enjoy the Shopaholic books, they are all quite formulaic, so don’t expect anything groundbreaking as far as plot goes. Overall, a fun holiday read!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I have loved the shopaholic series and the moment I knew that this book was coming out. I had to read it. All that I can say is Sophie Kinsella is an amazing author and she has done to again. While reading this book in particular, I could find similarities between Becky and me, which was hilarious. It was a super fun read. I could go back to rereading the whole series once again !!!
This was a delicious, fun Christmas story. It had plenty of humor and drama, a wonderful little read to get you in the spirit of the season. This my first Shopaholic book and you better believe it won't be my last.
Becky Brandon nee Bloomwood hosts Christmas...what could go wrong?!
I had forgotten why I liked these books so much when I was younger. This was cute, clever, sweet, and Christmasy!
This is apparently the eighth book in the Shopaholic series, and clearly I missed a few in the middle. Reading it reminded me why I liked Becky Brandon nee Bloomwood so much. Kinsella’s lovably kooky heroine does Christmas this time, and it makes for a lovely, light read.
Theoretically, the schtick should be stale on these books by now, but Becky’s madcap adventures don’t seem to get old the way one would expect. Kinsella has done well allowing the character to grow and evolve without losing what makes Becky her wonderful self.
Terrifically enjoyable brain candy with more smart humor and less schlock than your average chick lit book.
Kinsella highlights Becky Brandon's (nee Bloomwood) shopaholic tendencies as she gets ready to host Christmas at her house. Christmas Shopaholic is full of drama and small crises to entertain the reader. A great get-ready-for-Christmas read!
