Grateful to Netgalley and Bantam Press for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review. I was really hoping for a light and cute holiday read, but this book just didn't deliver. I wasn't a fan of the characters, especially Becky. She made SO many poor choices, didn't communicate well with her own family, seemed super insecure, and made Christmas seem more like a chore than a festive occasion. I'm sorry to say I may have outgrown this series.
Here is another holiday review for those that are all about the feel good books right now. I have not read a Shopaholic book in a while, and after this one I might want to go back and start the series over or at least read the ones I missed. Now, Becky does give me anxiety with all of her shopping, but once I got into this one I was all in and really enjoyed it. She is so fun with the messes she gets into, and the ways she gets out of them, and this one did not disappoint. She is asked to host Christmas, which even I wouldn’t want to do, but I really enjoyed watching her deal with it all. It was a quick read and the audio was great. Easy to listen to if you still have wrapping to do…
Thank you to @netgalley and Bantam Press for the egalley to review. Synopsis follows in comments.
Enjoyable sequel in the shopaholic series. Silly but still made me chuckle. Good feel good book just before Christmas.
This was a great addition to the Shopaholic series! I loved reading it near Christmas. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a fun read.
There is nothing more that I love than a good Christmas book! Christmas Shopaholic was great and had the cutest story. Becky is stressed when her mother ask her to host Christmas. She knows that she has to make this the perfect day for everyone including her vegan sister Jess. But, the stress begins to get to Bec and a series of unfortunate events happen leaving Bec wondering what in the world she did wrong. This is a sweet story about family and friends and the true meaning of Christmas!
This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I was really excited about this book as I've been a shopaholic fan for years, but I felt this book truly did not do the series justice. It was scattered and shallow and just had no appeal to me. The books are always light hearted but this one almost seemed just silly and petty.
The original Shopaholic is one of my favorite books and Sophie Kinsella will always be a must read author for me. This wasn't my favorite book in the series, but it was fun to reunite with Becky and the gang again in this novel.
Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella is a fun Christmas read. I love this series and the district voice of the narration. This book reads exactly like the others in the series, which makes it so fun for fans of this series. I do not think it should be read as a standalone novel. Yes, you could say a lot of things about Becky’s character being shallow and petty— but that loses sight of the book’s premise. This is not an an intellectual book. It’s a fun, crazy read full of shenanigans you’ll hardly believe. I loved it. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
I LOVE Christmas, and by default I love books set during Christmas, so when I was scrolling through books to request and saw this and it's adorable cover I practically jumped through my laptop screen when clicking the request button. The cover and title alone makes you think this is going to be a cute and fuzzy holiday read. Unfortunately, I didn't realize until after requesting that this book was part of a series, let alone a series with eight other books. With that being said, I have not read the eight other books so there was a lot about Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) and her friends and family I was unfamiliar with, which made my experience reading this not as fun and exciting as it could have been. I still found the story to be heartwarming and full of holiday cheer, and Becky is hilarious and quite charming despite her flaws. I just feel that I would have enjoyed this a lot more had I previously read the other books in the series. Because this is my own mistake, I am giving this book a good rating because I still think that you should read it if you have been reading this series. I hope to eventually start the series from the beginning and make my way back to this book so I can really experience everything I know this book has to offer!
Thank you so much Random House, Dial Press, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!
This was a fun happy read! Just what we all need in these Covid-19 days. It pokes fun at the holiday craziness. The characters from the series are relatable and lovable
I just love Sophie Kinsella's stories, they never cease to bring a smile to my face. Confessions of a Shopaholic was actually the first Kinsella book I read and have read each book in the series, plus all of her stand along books. This was a typically Becky Brandon nee Bloomwood book...full of typical Becky happenings...of course she is going to plan the PERFECT Christmas, and absolutely nothing will go wrong. Of course the book is super funny, but underneath, the reason I love Becky and her stories is that her heart is so big and she always means well. It's refreshing to see a character who isn't perfect and just keeps doing her all and unapologetically being her. If Becky was real, I would totally want to be friends with her. This is a definite must-read in the series and I hope there are more adventures in store for Becky and her family and friends.
I received a copy of this title from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
I was disappointed by this book. I wanted to like is as I’ve been a huge fan of the series. What bothered me is Becky is the sane Becky we met in book 1. There has been very little character arc, she’s now married & has a child, her immaturity is no longer funny.
I've read quite a few Sophie Kinsella books and prefer the standalone stories. The Shopaholic series just doesn't grab me and hold my attention. I loved the Christmas theme of this one and had high hopes but it kind of hits a speed bump early on and never seems to pick back up. With that being said, I will always pick up her next book because she still is one of my favorite authors!
So fun to hang out with "shopaholic" again. These are a little formulaic and predictable, but it's still fun to see the next update.
Anything by Sophie Kinsella is an auto buy for me, of course another Becky Bloomwood book takes the cake, and this one did not disappoint. It was another fast and fun read, quirky and hilarious, and on point for Kinsella. Thank god Becky is back.
This started off as 4 stars, then the middle was more like 2/3 stars, then back up to 4 stars for the ending— given the amount of time it took me to finish, it could have all been a mood thing. This was definitely another fun and entertaining shopaholic book. As you can expect it was over the top and silly, but there were some really sweet moments too. I really enjoyed her friendship with Steph, sprygge, and even evil Nadine. Always a full adventure catching up with Becky!
Thank you netgalley and publisher for this early copy!
I ADORE Sophie Kinsella and almost all of her standalone novels. However, I'm not a fan of the shopaholic series. I cannot connect with the main character at all and left the series after book three. So, I decided to DNF this one.
I have always loved Sophie Kinsella's books and as always this one did not disappoint! Being back into the world of the shopaholic series was great! Especially being back in Becky's world! Go get this book!
This short, light installment of the Shopaholic series ticks all the boxes. Sophie Kinsella brings us Becky, during the holidays, wacky and scattered as always. I find it comforting to spend some time with a comfortable character. This is escapism, pure and simple. You can be assured Becky will make the wrong decision, take the wrong step, do the wrong thing, and by the end of the book, all will be well. That is why I choose to read the Shopaholic series - for sheer entertainment.
