Bran was trying to remain his distance and stay away from Ava as she picked up the pieces of her life. He definitely didn’t want her on his ranch but felt the need to help her. He was stubborn and swore he knew best but would soon find out that Ava would complete him in every way and smooth out his rough edges.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and thank you for that. This was a cute love story. I liked that the characters were a little stubborn and i got a nice couple of laughs out of it. Good book overall
Perfect summer read about a hot cowboy who lobes kids gives a recently single mother due to death of her husband a job and then the cowboy and mom fall in love so swoony.
Leslie North is an amazing Storyteller! Every single book I read of hers is great! Can't wait for her next book!!
Wrangling His Best Friend's Sister is the first book in the Beckett Brothers series by Leslie North. Ava Pearson needs a job—yesterday. After her husband's death, her life in the city became impossible, and a crisis with her young son caused her to lose her job as a reporter. Now Ava is living in her childhood home again, without prospects, but not without hope. If she can just get enough money to tide her over while she pitches an article to an even better big-city paper, Ava feels she can get back on track. The only problem is…what jobs are available in her one-horse town? Branson Beckett is successful by most measures of the word. He's the owner of a profitable ranch on the brink of expansion and is now looking for a few good ranch hands to help him out. However, he wasn't thinking of his best friend's little sister when it came to hard labor. No, he'd thought of her in other hard situations, but they usually involved the dark of night and his great big bed. Dreams that had no place in reality. But Ava is convincing. She needs to get out of her parents' house, and Branson needs her help interviewing his ranch hands. It's a win-win. He'll fix his personnel problem, and she'll write an article about it. As personnel issues lead to personal pleasure between them, Ava's big city dream drifts away, replaced by visions of a family in the country. In the end, Branson will have to face tough truths about himself, his ranch, and his relationship. And if he fails to see the light, he's going to lose the love of his life.
Wrangling His Best Friend's Sister is a multi trope romance. There are bits of the cowboy, single parent, small town, and friend's sibling tropes but they all seem to blend together nicely without any one of them feeling overplayed or less than organic in the story. I liked Ava- she is a strong and practical woman who puts her son first but is not ready to stop doing what she loves, what she is good at. I am a little less enamored of Bran. He is a nice guy, determined to do the right thing and run his ranch the way his father would have. However, the biggest conflict in the book is the same reason I wanted to kick him. He is emotionally stunted and walled off. Yes, many heroes in romance start off this way or act this way because of trauma- but apparently he has been like this for years. Alright, fine, I can understand it to a certain degree- but I get so bothered by a story in which it is only the realization that they love a woman- or the possibility of losing them- that 'fixes' the guy. There were enough other things in the story that could have triggered the realization. However, that is a personal peeve of mine, and might not be as frustrating to other readers, especially since that was my biggest issue with the book. It made it hard for me to connect with Bran's character though. I did like the secondary characters- which made the book more entertaining to read.
Wrangling His Best Friend's Sister is a good contemporary romance, with many well written elements. However I just did not become fully invested in the story.
Ava and her son Cam return to her childhood home after her husband dies and Ava loses her job. After hassling Bran for a job he eventually concedes but once Ava starts advising him how to handle the farm he sacks her. The book ends with an HEA.
I felt the book was a bit samey at the beginning but once it got started i really enjoyed it.
I was given this book by Netgalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary and impartial review.
Loved this book. Nothing is hotter than a rugged cowboy, especially one who likes kids and helping out a stubborn mom in need of a job. Looking forward to reading books 2 and 3 of this series!
After her husbands death, Ava Pearson and young son move back to her parents home in Texas. Ava is trying to become a journalist but she first must be able to take care of her son and live on her own. She secures a position with her brother’s best friend on his ranch. Bran has known Ava all their lives and feels like he may have made a bad decision in hiring her. Ava has always had a crush on Bran so that makes the story even more interesting! Sweet love story with a touch of country!
Having read several books in the past by this author, I found this to be a cute, predictable story with a happy ever after ending. It was a perfect summer beach read.
First in the Beckett Brothers, Wrangling His Best Friend’s Sister, is a great start to this new series by Leslie North. Tension, angst and great character, I will be reading on to find out more about these brothers and those around them.
Cute story about falling in love again. Ava is a widowed single mother and Bran is a hard-working ranch owner who both find each other after life moved them in different directions. This is a cute quick story if you a looking for a little sweetness in your life.
I did feel like I wanted to throttle Bran quite a few times for his obstinacy but then magically a quick word from his brother or best friend and he would pop his head right out of his arse. The saucy times felt like I missed a sentence or two at times. And I wasn't exactly feeling the chemistry or feelings between the two characters. But again, this is cute and quick.
I would recommend this for those that need a sweet bit of romance to perk their day up.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for this generously provided ARC!
Since the death of her husband, Ava Pearson has struggled to juggle the demands of her job as a journalist with the needs of her young son. When her job uses the opportunity to downsize by firing her, Ava finds herself back in her childhood home, desperate for a job. A chance meeting with her brother's best friend at a job fair gives her the idea for a story. All she needs to do is convince him to give her a job and a place to live.
Branson Beckett is determined to run his ranch precisely like his father did. He is hoping to convince his best friend to invest in his ranch so he can expand. There is just one problem, money has been disappearing from his account, and he has no idea how. Branson reluctantly agrees to hire Ava as his ranch hand. Allowing her to interview his employees for her story, if she decides to help find his missing money.
While this seems like a win-win situation, the attraction bubbling beneath the surface complicates matters between the two and the last thing either of them needs right now is to give in.
This book suffers for its length, which is a problem many novellas experiences. There isn't enough time to develop the story. This book begins well, with good character development. The difficulties between the three Beckett brothers is interesting, but from the first instance of passion between Ava and Branson, the story becomes jumpy and rushed. This could have been a good read, but its length let it down.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another fantastic book by Leslie North.
Ava has lost her husband and has had to move home. She is looking for a job to get herself back on her feet and her plan is to return to Dallas. She was a very good journalist but right now she is putting that on hold. Ava managed to convince Bran to let her work for him on his farm. The romance is sweet, sexy and even fierce at time. I LOVE this book, I can not wait for the next book!
ARC was provided by in exchange for an honest review.
This first in the Beckett brother's series is about Branson and Ava. Good introduction to the series and characters .Looking forward to reading the next book.
Ebook from Netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
Ava Pearson has had to move back home with her parents after losing her job at a journalist. She’s on her own looking after her son after losing her fire fighter husband. Her mother is starting to slowly drive her mad, she needs some independence but options are low in her hometown. She is determined to persuade Branson Beckett to give her job helping on his ranch, which means living on the farm and making a decent wage. He’s not keen but she wears him down. He finds himself fighting his attraction, there’s too many reasons why this is a bad idea. Enjoyable story which introduces us to the Beckett family. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was my first book by Leslie North and I adored it. I devoured it in one sitting! Great story and loved the characters involve, especially Ava's son, Cam! Lovely storyline involving loss and second chances at happiness. Definitely worth a read and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
Single mom Ava Pearson returns to her hometown hoping to get back on her feet. She ends asking her brother for help and ends up working for his gorgeous best friend.
Branson Beckett is the owner of a ranch on the brink of expansion and is looking for a few good ranch hands to help him out. The last thing he was expecting was his best friend’s little sister.
But when his best friend calls in a favour and he has to help out the single mom. But personnel issues soon lead to personal pleasure between them., Branson loves having Ava and her son on the ranch, but can they see a future together?
Leslie North has another bestseller in her repertoire. This story is outstanding in its simplicity. Simply a country boy loves a country girl. But don’t be fooled. It will grab you and ensnare you into their world. Bran and Ava have so much to learn and so much to give. Ms. North creates a world with her words. A world where cowboys live and work and cowgirls are strong enough to work right alongside them.
I received a free book from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Wrangling His Best Friend’s Sister is the first book in the Beckett Brothers series by Leslie North. Branson is a ranch owner and Ava was a journalist and has a young son. Her husband died and after a series of other events, she lost her job and was forced to go live with her parents. She wants to get back on her feet and Branson hires her to find some missing money since he wants Ava's brother to invest in the ranch, but you can't have thousands of dollars missing. As I am used to from the author, I wasn't expecting Cam (Ava's son) to have many interactions with Branson, so I wasn't overly disappointed when they had like only a scene together. What I didn't like in this book was the reason behind the conflict. As Branson said, there was no problem before Ava brought it up and all of a sudden there was a major problem. I was expecting something better to separate our characters.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley!
