I thought the author’s debut book, The Night Olivia Fell, was a so-so book, so I wasn’t sure how I would feel about Behind Every Lie. I am so glad that I read it! Kat and Eva’s story grabbed my attention early and held it throughout. I changed my mind several times about who I thought was responsible for Kat’s demise. The alternating viewpoints between Kat and Eva were well-done and I especially liked the way that the two viewpoints come together on the night of Kat’s murder.
Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Funny I started this book and then it clicked this was the author who wrote The Night Olivia Fell, which I loves. The first pages of the story drew me in and each page kept me wanting to keep reading to find out how the story ends. There will be secrets and lies that unfold and it had me guessing until the very end how it was all going to play out. If you want a thrilling book, check this out! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this story. Interesting plot and good characterizations. Not a five star read, but nonetheless entertaining

My favorite part of this book is the different view points told by Eva and Kat. The characters are interesting. The plot is intriguing. The mystery itself was full of action, suspense, and tension. I figured out what was happening fairly early, but it didn't take anything away from the enjoyment. Overall it's a good read.

Excellent!! I was really looking forward to this book after reading The Night Olivia Fell. This book did not disappoint.
Eva has been struck by lightning and is the prime suspect in her mothers murder. Follow Eva as she tries to uncover secrets from her past and clear her name. Thought I'd figured it out a couple times but nope, some really good twists.
Definitely recommend.
Thanks to netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, I recently had the opportunity to read an ARC of Behind Every Lie by Christina McDonald. I am quite glad too.
I am a regular reader of modern thrillers and consider myself quite the sleuth. I had this one figured out after several chapters. At least I thought I did. Several times. As layer after layer was revealed, I realized I was outsmarted. And very much intrigued and delighted.
The mother-daughter relationship has never been more complicated nor as thrilling. I felt like an archaeologic as I unearthed the secrets of Eva and Kat. This is the first book I've read from McDonald and now I want to search out more of her work.
This novel is a must read, page turner. Read with a loved one and wonder what secrets they're hiding from you!

I really enjoyed this mystery. It was a nicely paced book.

We follow Eva who we find out gets hit by lightening. While in the hospital, a detective comes in to question her about her whereabouts. We then find out that the night Eva was hit by lightening, her mother was murdered and is now the prime suspect. Coincidently, she has NO memory of this night and goes on her own journey to find out the truth about that night.

I would have given this book 5 stars but there were too many predictable twists and too many odd circumstances in one book. But nonetheless, this was still an awesome read!

Behind Every Lie is a rollercoaster thriller that takes readers on a crazy ride filled with tons of surprising twists and turns. Although some of the twists were guessable, several of them were genuinely shocking. It takes a lot for a thriller/mystery author to truly surprise readers, and for that, this author is certain to gain lots of new fans.

I did feel like parts of the ending went on for too long and contained unnecessary details. I also wish that authors would stop writing such detailed descriptions of domestic violence. It makes books like this one very unpleasant to read at times. Yes, authors should shine a light on every aspect of the world, including the bad stuff. But we can understand someone is being horrifically abused without having to read about it several times.

Even with my complaints, this was a very good book that fans of the thriller/mystery hybrid genre are likely to love. There’s a little bit of everything in this book, from secret identities and a suspicious detective to murder and spousal abuse.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC. This review contains my honest, unbiased opinion.

This book has a lot going on. It’s a really good story, with plenty of twists and turns. The author does a good job of making you suspect everyone. Some things were a little far-fetched, like Jacob conveniently having a flat in London and just so happens to carry the key around with him. But, a very readable book.
Thankful to have been able to read the ARC through Netgalley

The story has so many twists turns and a wonderful plot you would never believe the ending how it all worked out but truly a wonderful story... one I truly recommend for everyone thank you for letting me read this book Early Netgally. There is always a give and take relationship between mother's and daughter's. There can be conflict and raw emotions, bit at the end of the day there is always love.
This is a story about such a relationship. As you read you begin to see the twists and turns of the lives of Eva, Rose, Lily, Kat, and Laura. You can also see how the men in their lives play such an important role on who and why they become who they are.
Solid characters. Sanitational story!

Wow. I don't even know what to say. Behind Every Lie was even better than Christina McDonalds first book, The Night Olivia Fell, which I absolutely loved and was the reason I requested her latest novel.
The plotting was tight, the characters were fantastic, and the prose had me wanting to slow down to enjoy every word even though I couldn't help racing through it to get to the end. So, so, so good!!!!!

Highly charged suspense and a feeling of urgency, make this a great read and I wouldn't have expected otherwise given her prior work!

Eva Hansen remembers blood and pain. When she wakes in the hospital to discover she has been struck by lightning and she can't remember a thing. She was found in the street covered in blood, close to her own mother's home, where police have discovered her mother murdered.

Told from the points of view of Eva and Kat, this was intense. With everyone looking at her suspiciously and thinking she must have killed her mother, Eva leaves Seattle for London, where her mother's story began. But someone is following her every move and she may be the next to die. At this point with her memory in tatters, she even doubts herself.

Family secrets. Oh my what a tangled web they can be and these were deadly! A twisty, twisted, horrible, edge of your seat read! I can't wait to see what is next for Ms. McDonald!

I loved every twisted moment of it!

Have you ever just picked up a book and it was so good that you just had to keep reading you didn't want to put it down. Yet, when you did you just wondered what you did with your life. This was this book. If the book is really good I can devour it within a day no problem, but the storyline has to be extremely good and those pages have to be flippin.

I was on the edge of my seat with this story. I have to say I was hit with bombshell after bombshell and had my mouth opened a few times. That is what I love in a good thriller book. Being surprised that something happened and it fits just perfectly with the story.

We are going between the present and the past with Behind Every Lie and you will not be lost when the book does that. I really liked how the author told us about what appears on your body if you survive being struck by lightning I thought that was extremely cool as I had never heard of this before. I literally stopped reading to look it up and was in awe. I plan to share that neat little information with my children as I learned something new.

Eva doesn't remember the night she was struck by lightning or what happened to her mother. It seems she has always had problems remembering things that are important.

As the story unfolds we learn that Eva's mother is holding on to a secret that is bigger than anything that Eva could have possibly imagined. It just goes to show that the past always has a part in coming back to haunt you. You can never truly run away from the past or the problems you have to hit it head-on. Eva's world will turn upside down and the answers she seeks will either harm her or help her. Everything is woven together and it all makes sense as the story unfolds, I did like the ending and felt it closed the book just right.

I hope to read more by this author!

Behind Every Lie is a fast paced, multi-layered thriller that you’ll be staying up late to finish! I couldn’t put this one down! I liked Christina McDonald’s first book, The Night Olivia Fell, but enjoyed this one even more.

Eva is living a relatively normal life. She has her share of trauma in her past, but has moved on and has her art, the studio she rents, and fiancé. Until the day that she wakes up in the hospital to discover that she had been struck by lightning, her mother has been murdered, and she is the prime suspect. Eva must unravel the tangled web of lies that her family wove in their attempts to protect her before it is all too late.

Behind Every Lie is very fast paced, and I couldn’t put it down! Each lie that Eva unravels leads to another, and Christina McDonald did an amazing job of tying each thread together by the end. The story is told from 2 alternating points of view - Eva today, and her mother, Kat, from 25 years ago. The unveiling of key events is done nicely while jumping back and forth between the two narrators and times. Eva and those around her have even more tragic lives than originally anticipated, and each turn brings a new surprise. It could have been too much drama for one storyline, except that the author manages to wrap everything neatly together by the end and all the pieces fell into place.

Christina McDonald does not disappoint with her 2nd novel - if anything, it was more fast paced and more full of thrills than her first. I’m eagerly anticipating the next book that she has in the works! Thanks to #SimonandSchuster and #NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book early!! #BehindEveryLie, available February 4, 2020.

I received an electronic ARC through NetGalley.

I liked this story. I felt compelled to keep reading in order to find out what happened. However, the ending seemed far-fetched to me. Everyone was forgiven a litte too quickly and easily.
