This was not my kind of story. At all! I kind of knew from the book cover that this might not be my thing, but sometimes I need to try. First of all, I had no clue what "Ghosting" was, so I had to look that up. Sounds awful, by the way! Also, dating app's. I haven't a clue how that works. I've been stood up before, but the thought of judging people just by their looks is appalling.
So, the book. I never did finish it. Technology, and incredibly gullible characters made this a no go for me. I didn't care how it ended.
Don't let my take on this story out you off. I think many would like this sort of crap. I didn't.

This one. Oh…this one.

I detested the main character with every fiber of my being. I mean, like, I wanted her to end up dead and dismembered or something. (Yeah, violent tendencies, whatevs.) To be fair, I also hated her best friend, her workmate, her boyfriend, and everyone else we met in the book.

But, oh, I wanted to know what was going on. I was confused and intrigued and simply knew that when all was revealed it was going to be a mind-blowingly amazing thing that would make it all worthwhile.

And all was revealed and I said……………………………………………………………………………..

Huh.

Yup, that was it.

Huh.

I give the author credit. He kept me interested and reading despite my character hate. I just wish the reason behind all this was…well…anything but what it was.

I think some people will dig it.

This is one of those books that you can't put down because of the suspense in what's going to happen next. It's a lot like the need to check social media all the time for the dopamine. There are parts in this book that genuinely terrified me and I have read hundreds and hundreds of horror novels. There are so many twists and turns and what an insane ending! I can't wait to see what's next.

This was an interesting read. Some parts I was flying through it really interested in what was going on and other times the book seemed to drag on. I will say the ending was very interesting.

I was given a copy of Ghoster by Jason Arnopp to read for an honest review.

I tore through this paranormal horror/thriller in one day! I had no idea that this book would go this route/ I assumed it was a normal “ghosted” romance story. Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong! I. Loved. This. Book. 🖤

I really did. At first I wasn’t sure about it and was just kind of confused. It picked up and ran the entire book & I really really loved it. I also really liked the ending (which I know some did not).

The satirical style was just so well done and this book is perfect for the ghost and goblin season for sure! I will be looking up Arnopp and reading his first book for sure! I wasn’t disappointed at all.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 (stars from me) - for this cautionary tale with a bit of a King style to it!

Kate the paramedic is an addict; a phone addict that is. So she falls for Scott via phone, moves and it is a chiller from there until the end. Not my normal type of book but made me think about this phone that is always with me,.

Pretty good mystery...not fond of the ending. It was my first book by Arnopp and I didn't realize this was more horror genre than mystery. Though I have some library patrons that will love this book, it wasn't really my cup of tea.

Imagine that you meet the guy/gal of your dreams and after a short courtship said guy/gal invites you to move in. You are over the moon and giddy with joy. So what if it's a couple hundred miles way and that you've left your flat, your job, your friends, and your life as you know it behind. All that matters is that you and your soul mate are together, right?

Now imagine that after making the couple hundred mile trek with all the belongings you have left in tow only to discover that your soul mate has disappeared without a trace. The flat is entirely vacant. Entirely vacant except for one small object: Their cell phone.

That's what happens to Kate Collins. She really thought Scott was the one but what kind of guy ghosts a girl at this magnitude? Well, she becomes a bit obsessed and also maybe even a bit unhinged in finding out what the hell is actually happening. Things only become more peculiar when she begins receiving ominous messages through Scott's phone and also discovers strange scratch marks on the front door. Is this some sort of elaborate prank or is something sinister at play here? You will have to read this to find out.

"Here in the belly of darkness, on this fucking toilet seat, I've somehow adopted the aeroplane brace position while waiting for something godawful to happen. Could I open my eyes? Yeah, sure, I could open them. But dare I? Fuck no. I dare not." <----- And that right there folks would be my luck. To have it all go to shit while I'm on the damn toilet with my pants around my ankles. Now THAT truly is a nightmare! 😂

I have got to tell you I found this to be one heck of a fun and entertaining read. It's not always easy for male authors to convey a female character properly but Mr. Arnopp nailed it here. In the first few pages I was worried that Kate would become some sort of male fantasy but my goodness did I love her and her BFF Izzy. These ladies are hilarious even in the midst of all this fuckery they are able to maintain their sense of humor which makes this horror story have a bit of a lighter feel to it. Almost as if it's not taking itself too seriously and I completely appreciated that. Now with that being said this is a horror novel so you will need to put on your suspension of disbelief pants to enjoy this. I don't always have the ability to do that but I gladly chucked reality out of the window to ride this crazy train and I'm so happy that I did. 4 stars!

Great book!
This book was full of twists and turns and have one of the most original plots I have read in a long time with a topic everyone seems to be talking about or facing themselves these days, when is it time to put down the phone? With social media, when is enough enough?
Full of dark humor Jason Arnopp really did a great job getting into the female psych. I think he was pretty on point with a woman's POV, voice and perspective. The main character Kate Collin's was quarky and yes obsessive but I couldn't help but love her and want to follow her on her journey. Hearing her fight with her inner monologue was hilarious and brought some much life to her character. She definitely did a lot if crazy and questionable things on her quest to discover what happened to Scott, the boyfriend who ghosted her as she about to move in with him, but honestly I probably would have done a few of those things too in her situation. The writing style of this book was some of the most clever and well written that I have seen in a while. It has such a great flow and a distance voice. I absolutely loved how the chapters seasoned flowers from the end of into into the next. This was a thrill but not scary, just creepy and weird. And up until the ending I had no Idea the book was going to go into the supernatural Realm. I really loved the book up until the 80% mark but after that it lost me a bit simply because I'm not generally into that type of genre of books. With that said, there was an extreme amount of foreshadowing throughout this book, some of which your able to realize will be important but most you don't realize until the ending. The end I thought was really well done (even though it was where I hoped!) The whole story really came together and everything was explained in such an imaginitive scenario. i was left without one single question and felt that the book came together perfectly. The social media aspect of this book will definitely make you think 2x the next time you go on tinder or open up your social media platform. Be careful about what your seeing and what's truth/lies.
Overall I really enjoyed this one a lot and am excited to see what comes next from Arnopp.

OK... I read through the entire book, and will do my best to avoid spoilers.

I love me some thrillers and stories that keep me flipping the pages to figure out what’s going on. Eventually, I ended up flipping through the pages in frustration in an attempt to get through the rest of it and find out what the heck is going on. It ends up feeling like a cop-out ending, and I felt so irritated that I spent the day reading the entire thing.

The authors writing isn’t terrible, which frustrated me even more... the direction it went just made me go “huh?” I enjoyed Kate, though did find the characters annoying at times, but some of the other characters were just like ... there.

Unfortunately this isn’t a story that I would personally recommend.

The imagery in this novel is truly different and delightful, as is the subtle humor. The protagonist, though, spins an entirely new illustration to the definition of "feckless." She trashes her smartphone and clings to an old-fashioned Nokia in order to wean herself from a bad case of social media addiction. She "meets" a guy online, then in real life, falls for him despite his odd and elusive (read: suspicious) behavior, then jumps at the opportunity to move in with him, 265 miles distant from home and job. But he gives her no keys, no entrycode to the apartment building, no response to her knocks on his door. For this she has abandoned her flat and her job. Reading this novel is akin to watching two trains on the same track, one passenger and one freight, each running 100 mph, and simply waiting for the inevitable "irrestible force meets immovable object" conclusion. You just know the outcome is going to be deathly, but you can't stop watching.
