Bad Panther was fun to read, and is the beginning of a really exciting series called Alien Guardians of Earth. Because it is the first book of hopefully many, you can of course read it as a stand alone, but it will make you want to read all the books by Donna McDonald in this series!
Story-wise, this is a fairly well constructed story. An easy read that will make you want more. The science fiction bits are fun, but don't have much to do with any science, but really, the story is engrossing enough that it's not anything that will keep you from enjoying the heck out of this book. The romance is delightful, if awkward at points, which honestly is not really different from real life romance. I loved reading the quirky banter between characters and you can bet I'm reading the rest of the series as fast as I can buy them!
A great read, I finally started a series with the first book! Cannot wait to finish this series, a must read. I was given this book to read and I am a very happy girl!!!
Dr. Sugar Jennings is an Archaeologist and an Ancient Earth Historian. She’s also the host of a very old, very ancient artifact of enormous power. Everyone wants Sugar dead because of it. They want the power she possesses, but she can’t let them get it. Desperation drives her to seek help but no one is willing to risk their own life in the job of protecting hers. Or no one did until a mercenary Panther Shifter decided she might be worth the trouble. Now all she has to do is convince the ancient artifact she carries not to kill Axel for trying to help her. Axel Rodu is a rogue Panther Shifter and heir to Lyran throne on Earth. His work for the agency is special contract only but even their toughest problems barely keep his boredom at bay. Has he earned the name Bad Panther? Depends on who you ask so long as you don’t ask his newest client. Ironically though, Axel has no intentions of using Dr. Sugar Jennings to worsen his reputation. He has one job to do concerning the archaeologist and one job only. By order of his queen, whatever it takes, he must make sure Dr. Jennings stays alive until the artifact is done with her.
I liked the beginning of this book. I liked Sugar well enough (even if the name was hard for me to like), but I had a big problem with Axel. I didn’t like him right from the beginning. DNF.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
I had not read anything else by this author - but will be keeping my eye out for more. The characters were fun and interesting. Story moved a great pace. Looking forward to more.
Thank you, NetGalley for providing me with a copy of Bad Panther in exchange for an honest review.
The concept of the book was exciting, could use more time to develop, but for the first book in a series, I imagine, It isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The pacing of the book wasn't great, that's why I will give this one a two-star.
I received this book via NetGalley and have agreed to leave my honest opinion.
Sugar is an Anthropologist who comes across an Artifact that has implanted itself in her body. Now others want to kill her and she needs protection. Axel is the answer to that. Axel is a Prince, heir to the Lyran throne on earth and also a panther shifter.
Sugar is an interesting character but Axel....I just don't know. He is arrogant to the max but I have to point out that he is an Alien not a human and doesn't understand the emotion of humans. The problem is...I don't feel a real chemistry between the characters nor do I feel like I know much about them, especially Axel.
I don't think I will be involved in the search for the next Artifact...
An archaeologist and an Ancient Earth Historian, Dr. Sugar Jennings has a problem, she’s the host of a very old, very ancient artifact of enormous power and everyone wants the power she possesses. Rogue Panther Shifter and heir to Lyran throne Axed Rodu has one job to do concerning the archeologist and one job only, by order of his queen he must make sure Dr. Jennings stays alive until the artifact is done with her, no matter what it takes.
Bad Panther is a very different kind of story, it’s a cross between paranormal, science fiction and fantasy with a super hero thrown in. The characters are strong, captivating and easily draw readers into their story while fascinating them with all of the different elements. The romance between Axel and Sugar is full of electrical chemistry and steamy passion. The attraction is there and the relationship is building but the artifact may be an obstacle they can’t overcome, or maybe it’s all the people that would love to get their hands on Sugar.
The author has certainly created a fascinating world – one that challenges world views and is full of snark, fun, adventure and a unique, refreshingly different story plot. The suspense and excitement builds throughout the story ensuring that the readers remain engaged throughout, never have a dull moment and definitely want more of mysterious world.
This was a interesting imaginable world, but it wasn't enough for me. I felt the characters were flat and didn't really have any chemistry. I might read the next one just to find out about the blades.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance read, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
It looks like this book is setting up a new series.
Hot, sexy story. Felt a little jumpy. I'm still not sure why Axel didn't want a mate? And why he fell for Sugar? It felt kinda insta-lovey, but good.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed reading this , and I recommend it to everyone
I received this as an arc for an honest review.

The story started a little slow, but by chapter two I was hooked. The development of Axel as a character from jerk to devoted mate is hilarious and had me laughing at times. The plot line was a little far-fetched for me at first, but it grew on me as the book progressed. This is my first time reading Donna McDonald, but it won't be my last. I am already looking for more of her books. Readers will love Sugar, the snarky, strong protagonist, and Axel, the stubborn male trying to understand love. This book is highly recommended.
Switch off "normal" and jump right into madness, mayhem, and shifter alien royalty. Sugar has a theory and when she gets one of those, they can take over her life. She soon lands in trouble of the alien variety and falls into the sexy claws of Axel.
It was a really good story with great main characters. Some of the secondary characters were almost stealing the show, especially Max. I loved learning more about Axel's back story and his parents are an absolute hoot! You'll want to slap Axel occasionally as he hides his inner good guy under a thick layer of jackass!
Sugar is the worst name! You immediately think airhead, saccharine sweet dummy but this Sugar is smart, crazy smart and I enjoyed the way she sparked off of Axel.
1.5 stars
Sugar Jennings is an archeologist who finds, and merges with, a powerful ancient artifact. I liked Sugar. She was snarky, intelligent, and could still joke around in her situation.
The hero is not my favorite. Axel doesn't really respect women. He doesn't see them as equals or capable of being warriors. When he first meets Sugar he describes her as plain and not at all tempting for him. He abruptly changes his mind once he sees her in battle mode with the artifact.
Their relationship just felt flat and superficial.
The concept of this future Earth was a fascinating but I felt it needed some more work. It would be detailed in some parts of the story and then others very vague. This caused some confusion and made me struggle to enjoy the book, on top of not enjoying the hero.

I really enjoyed this story and I thought it was a great start to a new series!!
I thought that the characters were well developed and it was a really good story overall.
I did feel that the first few chapters of the book were a bit rushed by the author but as I continued to read the story it all started to fall in to place and it turned in to a really addictive read!
It is 4 stars from me for this one and I am really looking forward to the next story she releases - highly recommended!
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
While this is book one in a series, the romance was settled in this story line but the other blades are still waiting to be found and we get a little teaser about who will be next to find a blade.
Axel was kind of hard to like to start with and I loved that Sugar was not that enamored with him but just going to use him for sex like he did with his other conquests. I also liked tha!t Sugar was not a pushover and gave Axel a run for her heart! It is always fun to watch as a man who is used to women falling at their feet, have to work for the heart of the woman he loves!
Along with the romance, there is the constant attempt on Sugar's life and how she is able to defend herself and is pretty deadly! Hard for Axel to realize that she really doesn't need him to defend her.
Also, we are introduced to another blade host, and that was a big surprise!
Lots of action and drama in this book, and fun to watch a perpetual bachelor find himself in love for the first time. Looking forward to starting the next book in the series
I found the story to be an okay sci-fi paranormal romance. The writing was good. I just felt that the Axel was kind of a jerk, to begin with. Angel was quite likable. Overall a good story.
Bad Panther is a sexy, sometimes silly sci-fi/paranormal romance. Prince Axel Rodu is an alien/human hybrid panther shifter who has a reputation as a heck of a warrior and something of a manwhore. Dr. Sugar Jennings makes the whole story for me. Despite her unfortunate name Sugar is extremely smart and driven. When she finds an ancient alien artifact people come out of the woodwork to take it from her by any means necessary which means she needs help keeping herself safe. Enter “Bad Panther” Axel Rodu. I enjoyed this romp.
This is a quirky quick read that is totally different to anything I have ever read before I am now looking forward to more stories in this series
Dr. Sugar Jennings isn't only an archaeologist but she is one of the two blades on earth after one of the sentient blades bonds with her after she enters a cave. Now everyone is after her either to use her her or kill her It will be up to Axel Rodu a panther shifter an heir to the throne to keep her safe as per the orders of his queen. Will he be able to keep her safe and what happens when he finally meets her Will they form a bond will he keep her safe or will he live up to his name of The Bad Panther
This book was interesting in the fact it was quite different from other books I’ve read. But I had a massive set-back with the relationship between the two main characters.
Axel’s attitude towards Sugar did a complete 180 too quickly and the reasons were just not believable.
Sugar was... well, Sugar was Sugar. I found her bland, but to be honest, I found both of them bland. Whyyyy 😭
I also couldn’t stand the pace of the book, so all in all, this novel just wasn’t for me. What a shame, I really liked the blurb ☹️
Although fairly easy to read, I found the story was a bit vague and too cut and dry for my taste.
Sugar and Axel's romance was non-existent and the pacing was way too fast for me to even get any real inkling for any of the numerous characters you're introduced to. There were a couple of time jumps of several months that didn't really help flesh out the story and even though the sentient blades are definitely an interesting concept and the anti-love Hero definitely had potential neither idea ever grew from it's original impression.
I read it the whole way through hoping it would get better but ultimately didn't connect with anyone or anything.
Others that don't need the fluff and one on one page time with the MCs might enjoy this more.
