Sugar is looking for an artifact that she believes will make her wealthy. What she finds brings her trouble with a capital T. Her world is turned upside down but brings her a hot alien panther for a protector. But she no longer needs someone else to protect her. This is an involved often humorous romance that I really enjoyed. Original and well written I recommend it.
This is about an archeologist named Sugar and how while trying to uncover the mysteries of earths past she becomes a host to an entity of a protector blade. She becomes the hunted of all seeking the power she possesses and seeks protection from the paranormal. Axel is a alien panther shifter and is assigned as her protector. He’s a ladies man. Follow their adventure and watch the sparks fly. Literally and figuratively!
I read this book as an arc from NetGalley
Book 1 in the Alien Guardians of Earth series, Bad Panther, was an intriguing paranormal romance. Enjoyable character, good world building and an engaging story. I will read the next in the series.
A big thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first book in a series. I really liked the female character but seriously who could take her serious with a name like "Sugar" change your name. That's as bad as Chick. Just a horrible name!! Vent over.. There was no real resolution they just hid her. There were laughable moments and I liked Axel but not his attitude toward ugh Sugar. She was plain then suddenly the smartest woman he ever met?! It's short and quirky and made me laugh. I give it 3 stars.
Interesting premise but the delivery was a little off for me. The lead characters are both somewhat entertaining even if their dialogue is often choppy and odd. I would pick up the next one as I’m curious what the deal with the blades is.

Sugar is an archeologist and Earth historian. She is searching for Athena’s blade, a very old artifact. She discovers a gold box in a cave. When she touches it, the box opens and a blade is it it. It merges with her and she must stay ahead of the people wanting to possess her power. She tries to find someone to protect her but no one will, until she meets Axel. Axel is a rogue panther shifter and also the heir to the Lyrans, the Alien Guardians of Earth. He is a playboy, never staying with a female too long. There is something about this female that has his panther panting. Can he keep her safe from the ones that wants to take her power?
Good story with action and sex. Funny and bloody.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Bad panther by Donna McDonald.
Archaeologist, Dr. Sugar Jennings merged with a powerful artifact. People are trying to kill her to get it. Will Bad Panther become her purr-fect guardian?
A fantastic read with some great characters. I loved the story. I loved the cover. I loved how sugar/the artifact spoke. Read in 1 sitting. I'm looking forward to the next book. 5*.
The first of the Alien Guardians of Earth series, Bad Panther is an enjoyable introduction to this world of alien shifters, elaborate technology and sacred artefacts of immense power. The story boasted imaginative world building, interesting characters (even though the hero was an egotistical manwhore), and an easy to follow plot. I was intrigued enough that I will definitely read the next in the series.
I thought the storyline was interesting. Ancient history is not they way we know it today but was more technologically advanced. Helped out by alien races. You have the hosts to sentient weapons. The hero was kind of a jerk playboy. There was numerous mentions about her being plain looking but there really wasn't any effort made to describe her other than she had a curvy body. There was more of a description of him than her.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was disappointed with this paranormal romance. it started out interesting enough with Sugar discovering a rare artifact that binds with her and gives her Athena strength. The hero is forced to protect her against those that want to own it. While I liked Sugar's quirky personality her chemistry with the hero felt forced and flat. He claims not to form romantic attachments and thinks she's plain then suddenly he's all over her declaring his feelings not soon after meeting her. It just felt rushed and superficial.
