Meh, I identified the stalker too early on to enjoy this one. Beyond that, it was too repetitive (if I had to read “cheese wire” or “gabbling” one more time ...) and had too many loose ends. I did love Alice’s relationship with her mother, though.
Journalist Alice Henderson begins to receive sinister messages and phone calls, and realises that they are happening every Wednesday. Her concerned partner hires a private detective when it becomes apparent that the police are making little progress with the case. The book grips from the opening pages as Alice becomes more and more terrorised by her mystery ‘stalker’. A thoroughly engrossing thriller, highly recommended.
I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll is a truly fantastic thriller. A stalker who does something to torture his victim only on Wednesday? Escalating levels of torment? What more could you ask for? There are so many twists and turns as this book alternates viewpoints and timelines that you’re always just a little off balance, a little unsure of who or what to trust. This book is an excellent read for anyone who likes stories that stick with you and leave you uneasy, long after the last page.
Ugh, I just couldn't get into this book. The author's style of writing is one that constantly look back or sideways to the past or other somewhat related storyline. It took me away from the story with details I didnt feel I needed so much as the author needes to write them. Not an author I will reach for again.
I received this as an ebook from Netgalley.
Teresa Driscoll is quickly becoming a favorite. Excellent writing , deep storyline, high suspense. What more could you asks for ?? Bravo she has done it again.
When I think of this book I think...OK. It was OK. The villain was pretty easy to guess. The reason was the only really surprise. And the red herrings were pretty obvious. I did read to the end to see if what was what I thought it was. The characters were kind of cliched. The story was promising but a bit boring. I can see why some people may nave liked this book more than I did, but I think I may have reached my saturation point with this kind of story.
It’s Wednesday and journalist Alice Henderson is at work, sitting at her desk mulling over her success in helping some campaigners to secure safer housing. The phone goes and it’s a mechanical voice threatening her, as she puts the phone down her colleague Jack realises something is not right and they report the incident to their boss. A week goes by and Wednesday comes round again, this time a sinister delivery that jogs her memory and suddenly Alice is terrified as she makes the connection with the three previous Wednesdays. Now the police take it seriously and DI Sanders it put on the case. Alice’s partner Tom is not happy with the lack of support from the police and hires a private investigator, Matthew Hill, to watch over Alice on a Wednesday. Who is stalking Alice? What has she done to cause such vitriol?
This novel is yet another excellent read from Teresa Driscoll and had me on the edge of my seat as the tension ramps up to breaking point. Although this is another novel with Matthew Hill, the story is all Alice and works very well as a stand-alone and I look forward to Teresa Driscoll’s next novel, as she never dissapoints.
Usually I am not a fan of anything involving stalker plots but this is a complete exception. I think the difference here compared to other stalker novels is this is suspenseful more than just graphic gory. I appreciate an author that brings that sophistication to the table.
This book was fabulous. From the beginning in developing the characters, where you start the shift back and forth between sets of characters right through to the ending where the twist is revealed, this is well written and thorough. For all the intricate details, one of my favorite character interactions, that is really only an aside interaction and not central to the plot is between Matthew and Ian. This is a very sweet and well done interaction between these two characters that shows the intelligence of Matthew as well as the empathy and humanity he displays. I just adored their relationship and how Matthew figured out the issue Ian was having and a solution.
This is a fast paced thriller so I don't want to spoil any major plot points, but just say that this is a well written and readable novel that is good from beginning to end.
Highly recommend for my fellow thriller readers.

It started on a Wednesday. A threatening phone call received at work. Journalist Alice dismisses it as a prank.
Until the following Wednesday.
As the threats escalate, Alice's partner hires a private investigator, a former policeman, to both protect Alice and find her stalker.
And what about Alice's own secrets?
Sounds good, right? And it is.
Told in three voices - Alice, PI Matthew Hill, and a mystery boy known only as "Him" - spanning both past and present, I Will Make You Pay sure keeps you guessing on who's who and what's what. It's a slow-burn of a book, with some sweet moments (such as Alice's relationship with her mother), but there are little bits there that seem like they were added just for the word count. Fortunately, those bits are few and far between and once the tension ramps up, it really ramps up, with an ending you quite possibly won't see coming.
What I Loved: This one is a slow burn with excellent character development. And the mystery narrator and his journey? Yikes!
What I Didn't Love: OK, while I loved that character development, some of the added backstories and current caused the story to drag a bit.
Conclusion: I Will Make You Pay is a good book, that can take a little bit to keep up with. There are a couple too many subplots, but the twists are definitely there and definitely worth it.
3.5 stars! Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for the opportunity to read and review!
An interesting premise and a fully developed story with vivid details that are shared throughout the story. There several characters in this story, the journalist who receives the threats, a private investigator, the police detective, the sister, the mother, the boyfriend, the work colleague, the boss, the ex and oh yeah the stalker. All of these characters are interesting individually and together create a very intense thriller.
I was confident I knew the stalker and the twist of the plot. In fact I was somewhat disappointed because I thought how could the author make it that obvious...but then..oh then I got to the ending and I was wrong! When I saw how wrong I was, it made all the details and path I followed to the wrong conclusion even better.
This story also is a great example of encouraging readers to check out the authors notes. In this book the author shared her own experience and inspiration for this storyline which made me stop and rethink the fear and reactions of the journalist.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the chance to read this book and share my opinions!
I Will Make You Pay, is one of those books that makes you change your mind on the suspects right throughout. I did however, feel that there was a little too much going on at some points during the book. 3.5stars
Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author, for this ARC in exchange for my review. I really liked this story. This is my first book from this author but definitely not my last. I have added this author to my list of absolute favorites. The story kept me interested from beginning to end. It is really my style of thriller. Slowly burning and explaning everything eventually. Loved it!
I couldn't connect with this one at all. Had a difficult time getting into the story and then felt bored and like I was skimming just to get to the end. Not for me.
I think I am over this genre of books. Not sure what the genre is..but I will be careful requesting them. This was just an ok book for me. A Registry of My Passage Upon the Earth
I had a hard time even liking the main character, Alice. She wasn't a likeable character. The plot was decent, but honestly I had a hard time getting through the book. I will say that I didn't expect the who at the ending.
Looked forward to reading this book. Read I am watching you and loved it. this book did not disappoint at all. it was so very well written and the characters just sucked you in. I can not wait for the next book . the first two were amazing.
Every Wednesday something awful happens to Alice. An OK book, but didn't keep me gripped, and became slightly repetitive. OK ending.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

I Will Make You Pay is a creepy suspenseful story with a frighteningly plausible premise. Every Wednesday, Alice answers a ringing phone and hears the threat of a crazed stalker. Whom is the caller? Why is he/she threatening Alice? This scenario could happen to anyone, and I felt like someone was watching me while I read this book. The atmospheric presence of creepiness and stalking is palpable and impossible to ignore. Alice is a sympathetic character, and I felt her fear. I enjoyed this story because it was unpredictable, dramatically tense and thrilling. You never if someone might be watching you.!
“I Will Make You Pay” is a creepy mystery. A stalker who pursues and taunts his prey every Wednesday. Why is Wednesday so special?
It’s told from varied POV’s, during several timelines. I was drawn in immediately by the first chilling phone call Alice received from her stalker.
The writing was enjoyable and the summary was intriguing. We were given plenty of suspects to keep us wondering....Who is it? I never narrowed down my list to predict the stalker, so I was surprised when he was revealed.
My biggest issue with the book was the victim—Alice. Her foolish behavior and ridiculous decisions seemed uncharacteristic of a seasoned and intelligent journalist...who supposedly feared for her life. So I was left wondering “WTH are you thinking”...A LOT! And OMG....how can one woman be so unlucky?

I really liked this mystery/suspense thriller. An original story and Good solid writing about a newspaper journalist Alice, who receives creepy threats every Wednesday, and eventually has her scared for her life, so she and her boyfriend Tom hire a body guard (Mathew) to protect her.
I liked the writing style of the story with multiple stories being told. One story of Alice, her past and present situation, and the other from a young boy living with his grandmother, and the two stories coming together at the ending. It kept me interested from beginning until the very end. I read the kindle version and listened to the audible version so when I couldn’t read I could listen. Great narrators and definitely one credit worthy. I recommend either version (kindle or audible) to anyone who enjoys a good mystery/suspense novel.
A very special thank you to Amazon Publishing UK for the Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for my honest review.
