In the novel I Will Make You Pay, Teresa Driscoll has written a nail biting story of stalking and psychological suspense. With elements of both thriller and mystery, the author takes the reader inside the nightmare world of a journalist whose world upends after a stalker targets her for a twisted game of revenge.

One nice aspect of this book is the personable nature of the characters. Alice is unreliable as a narrator, but she is brave, too. Anyone whose life becomes a target for random terror and escalating violence would become a bit unhinged, but Alice's fear isn't solely for herself. Her dying mother also factors into her hellish anxiety, This could become pathos, but Ms. Driscoll expertly weaves the worry into Alice's internal dialogue, giving her a depth of humanity both refreshing and poignant. The stalker, also, is written as a human being. His own hell, one that drives him to target Alice, grabs at the reader. You don't excuse him, but you do feel pity for the child he was and disgust at how he was warped.

And that is the most enjoyable aspect about this novel. The tension is exquisite, and the twist at the end is enough to make you vertiginous. But it is the exquisite examination of the motives that drive stalker, victim, and rescuer that give the reader such a sense of gratification. Alice is a strong, independent woman who becomes a victim because she has the ability to see the good in people. The stalker descends into the madness of vengeance because of fierce love, twisted by someone who should have watched out for him. The rescuer is able to find answers because of his ability to imagine his wife or daughter in Alice's situation. The people in this book care, and that's rare in today's world of internet sniping and divisive politics.

If you enjoy a story that involves a strong sense of family loyalty, even in the villian, you will love this book. It is a pleasant variation on the themes that drive psychological suspense and domestic drama. I look forward to adding more by this author to my ever-increasing reading list, as will you!

This was a fast read that started off tense from the beginning. I figured out who the "bad guy" was but questioned myself the entire way through. The author lets the reader know the significance of the Wednesdays, but the characters themselves never find out.
An amazing story with enough twists and turns to keep you engaged.

Teresa Driscoll always delivers. This book has an ending so twisted you'll never see it coming. She expertly weaves two storylines together. She also brings back a few familiar characters, from her previous books, so you feel right at home from the very start.

One of those easy to follow and read thrillers that are based on suspense. The main character Alice is being stalked. The stalker seems to be focusing on one day - Wednesdays. He slowly but deliberately torments Alice, and noone can tell why or who it is. As things start to escalate, the fear and suspense keep growing.

Now, I personally didn't find it terrifying, but I wanted to keep reading to find out who is responsible. I never personally connected to the main character or her fear. There seemed to be a lot of red herrings, and weird side plots, and characters that took away from the story for me a bit.

The different POVs did answer some questions in the end, that Alice herself never got the answers to. As a reader I appreciate that. But, the twist wasn't such a big surprise to me as it was for Alice.

The author's note made this a bit better at the end, because it showed a personal fear that I haven't had to experience, but made me appreciate the book that much more.
Overall a 3.5 story for me.

When I read the very first sentence in I WILL MAKE YOU PAY, the horror of it sent my imagination into overdrive. Did it really say that? A couple of pages later I had to go back and read it again to confirm that I had indeed read it correctly. I had.

Teresa Driscoll drops you into the action and makes you want to know how things will turn out. She allots chapters to her main characters allowing them to tell their story before, and now. It is as if each of these chapters ends on a cliffhanger, and you will absolutely want to stick around for its resolution.

Driscoll does an excellent job of leading her reader down the proverbial garden path. There are clues that will seem to point in a particular direction, but I guarantee that you won't know the identity of the culprit until the very end.

This is the second book by Teresa Driscoll that I have read, and I can say unequivocally that I will be reading more of her work.

Detective Matthew Hill is hired to be Alice's "bodyguard" every Wednesday and hopefully he can keep her safe and alive.

There are three POV characters (Alice, Matthew, & the stalker). Alice's chapters are both in the present and the past while Matthew's are in the present and the stalker's are in the past. I found this book interesting and it kept me reading. I could see this as the beginning of a series revolving around Matthew's character.

Okay but not great. It was formulaic and the characters lacked much substance. I feel like I've read this story before.

Another great read by Teresa, once I started reading it I didn't want to put it down. A great story with twists which had me gripped till the last page.

I normally like Teresa Driscoll's books but this was a miss for me. It felt disjointed and unrealistic from beginning to end. I was not hooked by the plot, nor the characters nor the pacing. I wanted some big shocker to happen but it all felt very obvious.

An amazing story with enough twists and turns to keep you engaged. Journalism is really not that easy as it may seem and sometimes can be quite dangerous for the journalist involved! Highly recommended!

Another great book from Teresa Driscoll. Alice receives a call on a Wednesday... the following Wednesday a gift from the local bakery is not all as it seems. Teresa explores Alice's story and sets up a great guessing game and keeps the twists coming throughout until the end.

I have seen a lot of talk about Teresa Driscoll so I was excited to get this book from NetGalley for review. It was a fairly solid entry into the suspense genre. A woman gets a threatening call at work, but is not sure if it is serious or just a random wacko. But then she gets more threats and they are all on Wednesdays. The book held my attention through the first half, but in the second half it ramped up and I really wanted to find out what was happening. I enjoyed the fact that there were several different ways it could have gone and in the end, I had my suspicions about "who done it" but there was a lot more to the story line.

It seemed like an ordinary Wednesday until the phone rang. A mysterious caller is threatening journalist Alice Henderson who dismisses it as a hoax. But the next Wednesday, the stalker makes another move—and it becomes clear that this is all about Alice. Alice is determined not to give in to fear, but with every passing Wednesday the warnings escalate, until it’s not only Alice but also her family in the stalker’s sights. As her stalker closes in, can Alice uncover his identity?

The story begins well and has enough twists until the end. The story alternates between the present and the past and was intriguing from the start as the truth gradually emerged over who and why Alice was being stalked and hidden secrets start getting uncovered.

This story is told from three people’s points of view, Alice, the private investigator Matthew Hill and a mysterious narrator "Him". I Will Make You Pay is a well-written story that is a bit slow to start, but it gathers momentum as the story moves forward. The principal characters are all written though there are not many credible suspects to go around.

After the halfway mark, the story gets sidetracked by too many subplots: (Alice’s story with her mother, Matthew’s interactions with his daughter and another client, etc). They didn’t really add anything to the story, especially to the main stalker storyline but in fact, distracted from it. I wish there were more encounters with the stalker instead, who rarely made an appearance until towards the end. As a result, the book felt lacking in genuinely scary moments. I could guess the stalker quite early, as a result of which the ending of the novel felt flat to me.

Having said that, I really liked the stalker theme. The "HIM" chapters, added a lot of intrigue to the final reveal. Overall, I enjoyed reading I Will Make You Pay as the story keeps moving at a brisk pace which many good twists along the way. If you like mysteries, you will enjoy this one. Three and a half stars.

She then goes next door for a coffee and has a coffee waiting for her that had been phoned in ahead. She checked with her colleagues and everyone claims they didn't call in her order. She suddenly feels as though she is being targeted by a stalker. Every Wednesday she is met with new threats that get more serious when involving her family. Her boyfriend hires a PI to help figure out who could be stalking her.
This book is told from 3 different perspectives, Alice, Matthew (the PI) and someone referred to as "Him". I found the book very engrossing and really liked Alice. The book was very fast paced and kept me turning the pages to figure out the stalker and how the "Him" character was involved. This is my first book from the author and I would recommend it.

Wow! What a great psychological thriller from Teresa Driscoll. This is the first book I have read by this author but definitely won’t be the last. The premise is great, that someone is out to scare you to pieces by threatening you every Wednesday. The psychological warfare alone - to anticipate each Wednesday with a feeling of dread because you don’t know what is going to happen only that something is definitely going to happen is enough to send you over the edge.
Alice is a journalist who experiences first hand what it feels like to be on the receiving end of this kind of menace. She and her boyfriend Tom hires ex-cop Matthew to act as her bodyguard after several Wednesday threats.
I never saw the ending coming - hallelujah!!!
The characters are well developed and the story just keeps flowing till the end.

Started a bit slow and I almost gave up. I'm really glad I didn't! The pace picked up and I found myself reading every free moment I had. Enjoyed it to the last page! Thank you so much! Can't wait to read more!

Teresa Driscoll is becoming an author I watch out for. This book was a solid, quick read for me, though I did think it had a few too many “red herrings “ thrown in.

This was a great edge of your seat book! This book kept me captivated the whole time! I could not put it down!

Every have a day that you just dread? Alice has come to dread Wednesdays? Bad things are starting to happen on Wednesday, but why? Why is she a target and who wants her to suffer.

Woooooooow. This is my first Teresa Driscoll book, and it most definitely will not be my last. This is a well paced thriller that knocks you on your butt at the end with that big reveal.
